Coffee Shop Sleepy Bear is a one woman show, but she does an amazing job in what is a genuinely excellent cozy atmosphere tucked away in a good location. Service is quick even when traffic starts moving. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? 6,00 CHF for a cappuccino is maybe surprisingly reasonable for Lausanne, and every other menu item was equally reasonable on the price scale. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? This was a good cappuccino, and while I would have loved for there to be a little bear design in the mix it went nicely with the homemade granola bar that I paired it with. Single Star. The other thing I like is that they have a good loose leaf tea selection. As a tea drinker I value a place where I don't pay 4chf for a stale Lipton tea bag - so this one is perfect. Also, she has some unique sandwiches that are worth trying - like the zucchini one and the grilled eggplant. They sound like they would be awful, but are incredibly delicious. The food was great and abundant! We ate most of it as we were hungry but if we ever come back, we will definitely share a big breakfast. My server, Kate (or Katy) was friendly, helpful, and extremely patient as I was struggling to choose among their great selection of loose-leaf teas. I ended up getting jasmine tea (in the most adorable ladybug tea set!), along with a Liege waffle and berry jam. The Liege waffle came out warm. It had a great texture and its sweetness with the berry jam pleasantly offset the slight bitterness of the jasmine tea. I was there at around 8AM. There were other customers, but it was not too crowded, nor loud. Most people were reading while enjoying their tea or coffee. As always, this café is adorable, and definitely a repeat destination whenever I'm in town!

It was a sad night indeed because it seems that the cafe owners have decided not to repair the table. Weekend brunch: Be sure to call in advance to reserve a table for sat or sun brunch because Cafe des Avenues buzzes with activity during the weekends. THe brunches are popular for families. Serving american pancakes, crepes, eggs, bacon, omelets....this place is as close to home (gastronomically speaking) as I'm gonna get. Weekday: With the exception of lunchtime, the cafe is quiet and the perfect place to get some work done. During the week, you will find the cafe scattered with people working on their laptops, sipping their cafe or tea and nibbling on a croissant or one of their excellent goufres.

found out this place thru a friend that works with my wife. the café is located on a corner near a…read moreround a bout, and is marked well and exterior is clean. we went inside and it is a sit where you please type place. they have a childrens area so they can play while you dine or have espresso. really liked how the waitress took her time and explained about different drinks that are local and how they use as much fresh and organic foods as possible. we both ordered a local brew, Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes, Jura or BFM for short. I had the tartare de boeuf avec crostinis. I had the beef a bit spicy, which is exactly how I wanted it, not overpowered with spice, but just enough heat to feel each bite. both of us were happy with our choices, and hope to come back soon. I will add that the kitchen will not open up until 6:30, as with most cafe's and restaurants here in Lausanne , but you can have a few drinks and talk while you wait.

I've sat outside on the terrace and also inside for afternoon tea, and each time has been an enjoyable way to spend time with friends. The tea service is a great experience: your choice out of a large selection of teas or coffee, tasty finger sandwiches and scones, and a dessert buffet with so many choices, you'll have a difficult time deciding. And everything was delicious! As you would expect with this location, prices are high, but you're definitely getting a fantastic ambiance and excellent service. This is one of my favorite places to relax and chat with friends.
