I would give Republic Services 0 out of 5 stars if I could. Do not use this place. It is such a pain. When they do pick up trash, things work well. However, there have been too many issues with them not picking up the trash, a service that I pay good money for, for them to be worth the $$$. Also, they are absolutely impossible to get a hold of. I have spent hours trying to reach a customer service person for very simple request. A big issue with Republic Services is that their website doesn't list specific phone numbers for specific customer service concerns, so everybody gets roadblocked trying to ring the same number and then get transferred. Their messaging "chat line" is just AI, but you can reach a real person through it. However, the real person just copies and pastes preformatted replies and rarely provides helpful information. When I am actually able to reach a representative, they are very nice and helpful, but it is such a pain to reach them in the first place. read more

One of your asshole drivers nearly drove over me as I was cycling home from a long day at work at 3:50 in the morning. At the intersection of 7th and Weidler, he was making a left turn onto Weidler as I was crossing the opposite direction to continue north on 7th. I had a reflective vest, reflective helmet AND LIGHTS. I had to swerve out of the way to avoid getting crushed by your employee who was so obviously not looking. Bike bell and my yelling did nothing to capture his attention. Someone should either go through training again or get their CDL revoked. Completely unacceptable. read more

Worst service ever. They stopped showing up for weeks without any notice. When we finally got ahold of someone they said it was because of the parking on our street. We worked with the city to limit parking on the city street to give better access. The city finally obliged and adjusted the "no parking" area (again on a public street aka we have no control over this). Republic came a few weeks later and removed the trash and recycle bins with less than a week notice. We are a condo building and now have zero trash pickup for our residents until we can find a new provider. They voided the contract...if we tried to void it, you know they would've charged us. If you own a business, do not go with republic. They're dishonest and have zero customer service know how. read more

He doesn't do this to other people's recycling, we have watched him week after week-so we called and got laughed at when asked if maybe we were being discriminated against because of a sign in our yard. This business comes to the building across my apartment in northwest EVERY morning at 3:15 AM waking up everyone in the area. Is it legal to be picking up waste this early? The sound is definitely over 85 decibels as per Portland's noise regulations. I asked to keep my yard waste while I have the house up for sale. They refused to separate the service and said it is all or nothing per their contract with Lake Oswego. Their recycling trucks stop by my apartment building in NW Portland nearly everyday in the morning hours. Fine. I understand the need for recycling and the need not to jam up traffic later in the day. The problem is that they somehow choose to stop by my side of the street (14th Avenue) nearly a block away from where the dumpsters/bins are located (close to 13th). Their worker then has to walk all the way across the apartment building, push the heavy dumpsters to the truck, unload, and again walk across to put the dumpsters back. It takes 15 to 20 minutes overall when the actual dumping (which produces loud bangs) takes 1-2. Yet during the full 15-20 minutes the truck is idle, producing regular hissing/puffing noises and polluting the air. At the minimum the truck should be turned off while the worker is walking to retrieve or replace the dumpsters. And couldn't they stop by an exit that is closer to where the actual dumpsters are? read more

Horrible service! Stay away from this company that charges 4 times than other companies and will class charge you $120.00 to pick up their own garbage bin! They will also lie to you to tell you that your evergreen ex in a contract. Don't bother responding to the lady who responds to yelp. If I could give them NO stars I would. They have missed countless pick ups and don't show up when scheduled/promised. Our compost bins are overflowing and we now have to throw our compost in the trash because they have not picked up our compost at all this week, though pick-ups are scheduled three times per week. They claim they can't find drivers so think it's okay to just skip pick up after pick up. I have pleaded with them to service us, and all they do is throw up there arms and say they can't do anything. They are literally the worst company I have ever worked with. Republic Services has adopted the Comcast model of customer services and is striving to make the list of the Top 20 Most Hated Companies. We have two multifamily residential properties in Portland. After having had the runaround from the unresponsive call center, I traveled 600 miles to the Portland office in an attempt to get things straightened out. I was assured by an account executive there that he would speak with his supervisor in the Wilsonville regional office and he would get back to me "by the end of the day." That was Monday morning. It is now mid-day on Wednesday and I have not heard from him. He is following the page in the Republic Services/Comcast manual that says: "If you ignore them, they will go away." We do not wish to do business with a company that does not care about its customers. We intend to cancel our contract. read more

We've used them at the last two businesses I've managed. They raise prices with no notice, miss pick ups frequently and good luck getting in touch with customer service. After a lengthy hold or wait for a callback you'll get acustomer service rep who knows nothing except for the talking points they are given. Missed pick ups the last two weeks--between myself and the other management we have been on the phone with them at least 10 times. Even added pick ups starting this week so we wouldn't be drowning in garbage and the first day of the new schedule they sent me a text at 7:25 saying they've picked up the garbage-- I get into work and you can see what I saw in the pictures. I find it amazing in the restaurant business that I work in if somebody doesn't get food or drinks that they ordered they don't get charged-- heck if they even make a complaint we usually give them something for free. Why is it that businesses like this can absolutely violate their contract yet they are not held liable for it. Ordered drop box one week ahead of requested date, signed contract and paid deposit. When drop box did not show up I called Republic Services and learned that their employee made a mistake on the contract and cancelled order. I explained that I needed drop box as ordered because I had large group committed to clean-up. Republic Services promised to make good by their mistake and asked me to sign another contract, I signed immediately and learned that this second employee made another mistake and order was cancelled again, at the very last minute I was again promised delivery by Republic, so I signed 3rd contract and again was let down by Republic as they were not able to deliver on committed date. Completely inexcusable business behavior from a large company. They not only did not honor their agreement, but they delayed the process to the point that I was not able to find a replacement option. If you use Republic make sure that you call daily to confirm that your order is showing up as promised and get written confirmation, names and phone numbers of employees that you speak with. read more

This is a follow up to the very negative review I posted on 5/23/2018. I was promised by account executive Patrick Belzberg on May 21 that he would contact a supervisor in the Wilsonville office and that I would hear back "by the end of the day." It is now October 6, 2018, and I still have not heard from anyone in the Wilsonville office. I have to concede that when Belzberg said "by the end of the day," he did not specify which day that would be. Obviously, it will be a cold day in hell before anyone in a responsible position at Republic Services will follow through on providing customer service to us. You broke equipment and we had to pay the cost of repairs. Your drivers do not know what they are doing. You don't pick up for up to three weeks in a row. You put people on hold for over an hour. Customer service? Zero! Communication skills? Zero! You never do what you promice, always excuses. When you do pick up you leave the area strewn with garbage you dropped. We usually have three garbage pick-ups a week, but our head maintenance tech has been working and completing so many projects that our container overflowed so much that I had to call our carrier, Republic Services, and ask them to please come and do an extra pick-up today. I sent off an e-mail thinking maybe it would be a couple of hours, but our rep, Colleen, passed the e-mail along immediately to the dispatcher. The dispatcher called me and said they would be by for the pickup in ten minutes. And guess what? They were! I cannot say enough good things about Republic Services anyhow, but today they went above and beyond in terms of customer service. Is anyone else having trouble with recycling service from Republic Services? A few weeks ago Republic Services took away our recycling bin for no reason (we were fully paid up and not late). Their responses to our calls have been: 1.) we requested to discontinue service 2.) we moved 3.) they've already delivered a new can. None of these things are true. Oh and each time they said a supervisor would call us. They have not. This is Monday of week #3 and now they say they hope to have a new can out to us by NEXT MONDAY. I live in southwest Portland. We had extra garbage, recycling, and compost after Christmas. I called on 12/26 and requested an additional pickup of all these bins, which I would of course pay for. No one came the following day. I called that day, informing Republic that the pick-up was missed and requested again. No one came on the next day we scheduled I tried third time: a third day no one came. And again: a fourth consecutive day when the request was made, no one came. In total, four phoned in requests, four missed pick-ups, a complete waste of time and effort. Each time I called the Portland number on the Republic website I was connected with the home office in Phoenix, AZ. I got no explanation from each rep I dealt with for why the pick-up was missed and each time then received an assurance that the pick up would definitely be made the next time. I am now waiting on the phone for a escalations dept, rep.(it's already been fifteen minutes of waiting) to take my complaint. Meanwhile, I have all this trash still on my hands. If I could give zero stars I would. Poor service and never a call back from local office. I have to call and get Arizona or North Carolina. They keep promising to get our service improved. Excuses are getting tiresome. They are more than willing to take our money but give very little in return. I so miss the service we got from Trasco. Republic bought Trasco but their service is nothing like I loved for many years that we had from Trasco. Next week I will be researching other options in my neighborhood. Then from there it plummets further, their service people don't have a clue, making assurances of arrangements that don't happen or aren't even services they provide. I had no option to offer a review with minus 5 stars or I would have. I give Republic Services five thumbs down. I moved 2 weeks ago - it happens all the time...people move. I had to change service with Portland General Electric and NW Natural - easy peasy... same account number, one phone call. With Republic Services... mission bloody impossible. I called Republic Services Customer Service 2 weeks ago and told them I was moving (because on their stupid website my new address was "invalid.") The person I spoke to said I needed to pay the bill till the end of the month and then my account would start at my new address. They said the account # would stay the same and my service would be the same as my previous house because the old owners had the same bins as I had at my old address. I check the account online today and see that "there is no service available at this address." I also see that they owe me $60.78. I call to see what is happening with my account. Oh, there is no account, you haven't created one. Say what? You need to apparently have someone delete your old account and create a whole new account online. To do this you need your new account number and an invoice number - well, I don't have either. The CSR put me on hold for each and every one of these things - 24 minutes later I was told I would have to wait until an invoice comes in the mail. How totally freaking inefficient!! So they will cancel my old account, print a check, mail me a check (how long that would take is anyone's guess). Then they will print an invoice, mail me an invoice, I will then get said invoice and now create an online account. Can anyone say STONE AGE? I guess in the process they are just creating more garbage. Totally useless!! read more

Republic bought out Trash co and it has been the worst experience of my life. We went from having 5 star service to having the worst service you could get. Which is they just don't show up . They say they are going to come out and they don't. Also they switched there call center to someone in North Carolina that answers the phone after you wait a hour just to tell you that she will forward your request to someone in Portland. Shannon S. seems nice when you talk to her and sounds like she want to help but does that help get the trash pick up on time, no it does not. Also called the General Manager Jason J. and got a voicemail. If I could of given them a 0 stars I would of. Why buy Trash co that was a 5 star service to only lose all their customers. I have had Republic for quite some time. They have missed my trash can more than once and never credited me , this has happened three times in two years. I was told by a customer service person that each customer has two free item pickups a year. I have a small chair I called to see if they would take in lieu of my trash this week. The agent told me it would be $76.22 for the extra effort to get out and put it in the truck and $22.89 for the item itself to be taken! This is SUCH A CUSTOMER RIP OFF! Never being given a credit for the shortcomings and then this outrageous charge for the bogus 'service' to remove the small chair! Fair is fair and this company has very little respect for a two way business agreement with customers! The $22.89 is over kill , let alone the 15 minute extra service charge of $76.22! I asked the rep on the phone to talk to those who determined these charges and was refused that request. The business ethics of this company are unbalanced and target customer's expenses in an unfair manner. read more

never sign any paperwork at all in relation to trash service with this company.... they will claim you have an "evergreen" contract and say that you cannot stop service. there are other companies out there that are much more reasonable. your relationship with your trash hauler shouldn't be a marriage that involves attorney's if you want to dump them. for reals. read more
