The one big problem with this place, fundamentally, is dishonesty. They tell you to repair stuff that doesn't need to be repaired, and they charge more than others, in some instances TWICE AS MUCH, for standard work. About 1.5 years ago I first came here to change oil. They told me that the car "requires" synthetic oil. I drive my car 3-4k miles annually, so I certainly didn't need the more expensive synthetic oil. But I consented, because frankly I didn't know any better and I trusted them. I then read the manual for the car and it said that synthetic oil was optional. So they lied. Then I went a few weeks ago to change oil again and filters. I told one guy that I just wanted regular oil. But when the manager came around, he told him to do synthetic oil. It's a good thing I was there to observe it, because I intervened and told him that I just wanted reg oil. In addition, I stupidly agreed to have them change my engine and cabin filters for $90!! That's literally more than twice the price I paid at another place, on the same car, less than 3 years ago. I know the prices didn't go up by 2.5 times! I didn't know this until I came home and looked at my past receipts. If I knew, I wouldn't have agreed to this stunning ripoff! Then they charged me $250 to change two tires (which needed to be changed), for some cheap Ironman brand - a brand I have never heard of, and that has pretty low ratings. But of course the manager assured me that they were good tires. They also charged me $140 to change a pair of break pads, which I am sure was about $20-30 more than I would have paid elsewhere and also recommended I change rotors (which absolutely didn't need to be changed) for $375 total! This place is a joke. Lastly, almost none of the employees was wearing masks. Lesson learned: always do your auto research before going to any auto mechanic, but especially this one. I came here because it's conveniently located some 15 mins walk from my house, but I won't come here again. And I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. They are DISHONEST and they will RIP YOU OFF! *The ONLY reason I give it two stars, rather than one, is that their mechanics seem to work pretty efficiently. read more

MUST READ!! Beware. I gave them my car based on their reviews (which I assume now are sponsored/faked) to fix my serpentine belt that was slightly off the belt tensioner due to my wrong doing of not making sure it's on 100% prior to removing the pin (I changed my belt tensioner). Alex originally told me that's no problem it'll get done the same day. I towed my vehicle to them since I did not want to drive it and have the belt slip on me. I had two tensioners, one that was originally on the car and removed and one that was bought by me (new) and installed with the serpentine belt coming off. I come into the shop and Alex tells me that both of the tensioners were wobbling and he had to put a new one in then proceeds to ramble numbers off the top of his head and I quote "$150 plus $140, you owe me $290". I ask what for and he said "New tensioner, the bolt, labor". I go to my car to check and voila ... ITS THE SAME BELT TENSIONER THAT I HAD SUPPLIED !! So I go back and confront him and he switched up the story to "labor taking it out and putting it back in" mind you it's a E14 bolt that takes you 5 minutes to remove as a novice mechanic. I thought he'd be more understanding knowing he literally just switched up the story on me but instead I get a "You should of done the job yourself" in a very disrespectful tone. Moral of the story : from my personal experience, very untrustworthy and money hungry . Stay away and find a mechanic he isn't going to charge you $300 for removing a bolt and lying about the work that was done. Update response to Alex : You are missing the point so let me break it down : 1) The fact that you changed up your story when confronted to justify how much you charged me (MAJOR RED FLAG) 2) Charging a client cause you worked harder and not smarter (I've never seen an honest mechanic do that). Since the installed belt tensioner was good, you never had to remove it and test the other one out. I clearly told you, I have the old one just in case you need a new one which obviously you did not. 3) You were suppose to charge me $150 (which is still an overkill but acceptable compared to $300) to realign the serpentine belt on the belt tensioner. (I've went around and asked mechanic how much they'd charge for it explaining my entire situation and all said not more than $100). read more

I have been coming here for close to ten years now. In my 35 years driving, this is probably the very first truly honest auto shop I've ever come across. Mind you, I am a pretty gifted "backyard mechanic" myself and do some advanced stuff when given the opportunity. But for, say, lack of time or necessary tools, I always bring my cars here. Now they don't know that I know my way around a motor vehicle (I always feel like I'm undercover bringing my cars to mechanics already knowing the problem but seeing if they try to inflate it. LOL.) -- Anyway, so I can can vouch, with 100% confidence, that Alex and the guys have never, ever tried to rip me off. In fact they have been beyond fair (I won't go into details because I don't know if they do this kindness for everyone). One caveat is that they are almost always super busy, so wait times can be pretty long. But since they are open 24 hours and there is a subway a block away, I usually just drop off and pick up later. The first time I came here, I left a 2 star review for shoddy work done. In summary: -They screwed on a license plate that popped off in a week -They did an emissions inspection and placed the sticker higher up than it was supposed to be, resulting in an $85 ticket. -The person manning the window in the evening tried to tack on an extra $8 fee to cover dinner. Now, it's a few months later and they agreed to see me despite the fact that most shops are closed due to the new SARS. Surprisingly, Alex gave me a price right off the bat - $450 for a "rack and pinion" replacement with a used part. Once he agreed to see me, I took the negative review off. Mind you, i'm still expecting a shoddy job like last time but i'm thankful someone exists to do the job. I really have no choice. I show up on the morning of - and i'm standing around for about 40 minutes to be let in. These guys have the shop shutter closed and gowned from head to toe. I'm standing outside and Alex is asking me over the phone "what kind of noise" the car's making over the phone. This is exactly the BS I can't stand about car shops. You can get gouged on price AND waste your time. But again - I have no choice. They finally see me and order the used part and a few days later I bring my car in and they fix it for the price quoted on Yelp in our original interaction. This whole episode surprised the heck out of me. I honestly expected some price gouging or BS. I got charged exactly $450 + tax as quoted on yelp and I was out in short order. I've used these guys for about five years now, which is a strong recommendation in itself. The overwhelming sense you get from them, especially Alex, is that they've seen absolutely anything that can go wrong with any car and know how to deal with it--as well as roughly what it will cost. The result is no surprises, which is a pretty rare occurrence at an auto repair place. Moreover, they know how to deal with insurance companies, parts dealers, adjusters, etc., which means when I brought my car in with front end damage, Alex knew exactly what would happen after I called my auto company and was able to give me a realistic estimate on the time it would take. My only complaint: They need a new name. They do so much more than "repairs on wheels." In fact, I'm still trying to figure out what they don't do. "Repairs on Everything" is too obvious but is pretty accurate. One more thing. Important to realize that while they are open 24 hours/day, they're closed for Shabbat from about 1:00pm Friday until 8:00 Sunday morning. I thought I was leaving a great review but the next day started a nightmare! I went back 4 times was Tod they used original parts and oil change I'm am out of 365 and that's only because I had to walk to bank because they charge 40-50 extra for credit card. I went to my dealer and they said the coil was not original and fixed the problem! Should have went there in the first place ! No oil change was done but they charged me! I asked for my money back he flatly told me no the mgr. I have proof of same coil being fixed receipt from both and if they could not fix they should have told me so! I cannot put a lie review. AC wasn't blowing cold. Was charged $150 for them to fill up with refridgerant and not bother with diagnosing. They told me to come back again if there is a leak and they would then look for the leak. Less than a year later, it's blowing hot air again, not surprisingly. Instead, I went back to my usual shop and it was 80 for recharge+8 for o'rings in the line that they knew immediately was common failure in my car. I'm not sure how this helps you. I needed to get my annual NY inspection taken care of and of course I left it until the very last minute. Searching through Yelp I found Repairs On Wheels highly rated and open 24 hours. Last time I left my inspection until the last minute there were a few 24 hour shops that didn't staff the people to do inspections at night, didn't have any more stickers, or some other random reason they couldn't accommodate me. So seeing that the Yelp listing said the business had a 100% response rating and usually within an hour, I reached out to make sure they could accommodate a late night inspection and somewhat last minute. The listing is right. I messaged 3 times or so clarifying all the details and Alex F the manager responded very quickly each time, At the end of the day I ended up going with Repairs on Wheels. They told me to just swing by anytime. I swung by pretty late at night and had to wait about 20 minute or so but after that it was only another 20 minutes or so and I was out of the shop having had the inspection completed. I've definitely been to other places where I had a set appointment and it took an hour to 3 hours just to get back out of the place. Overall I was happy enough with the experience I'd consider returning if I ever need any repair work done. read more

I chose this place strictly based on the reviews, expecting that it would live up to its almost 5 star rating. I will start with the pros the staff is polite, no pressure to do anything extra the scope of work seemed fair. The cons... The mechanic was smoking in my car! So now my car stinks! I feel like it goes without saying do not smoke in a customers cars! I asked then mechanic to dip the stick for the oil before I drive off. I am not very savvy when it comes to cars. But I wanted to make sure that there was oil in the car and it was clear. He dipped the stick a number of times and there was no oil on it. He came back and allegedly added 2 more quarts and insisted that my car needed 7. He did NOT charge me but in the 5 years I have owned the car and all the times I have taken it to the dealer 5 quarts of oil have been sufficient. I have a lot of doubts about the quality of work. I am not convinced I got what I paid for... They did not change the filters, charged me for windshield wiper fluid and did not refill the vehicle's fluid levels including; Power steering fluid etc... I do not know much about cars it is really frustrating when I feel like I am getting taken for a ride... I am afraid to ask them to "fix" rather do the work I paid for because I have zero confidence they will do the right thing. read more

So grateful that they do car inspections in the morning, because apparently everyone else around me won't do it until 12PM pretty ridiculous ! Called and made sure that they had a time available, the person I spoke to was super nice and had an immediate opening so I drove there. It's scary going to a mechanic you don't personally know. The thought of getting ripped off makes me want to drive my beat up car until it breaks down in the middle of the highway. I've been to multiple mechanics that quoted half the work this shop did for over 1000 dollars more. I've been driving with a broken exhaust pipe that was hanging by a thread for the last 3 years. The sound of the broken pipe made my little smart car sound like a furious race car. We had to pull over and turn off the car just to make a phone call.. it was horribly loud. The breaks were incredibly worn out And a bunch of other things that makes my car sound like it belongs in the junk yard. Ive known about these issues for the last 2 or 3 years. From the minute I requested a quote until the time I picked up my car (more on that later), Repairs On Wheels was great. I requested a quote on an oil change and tire rotation and asked their availability. This was late morning on a Thursday. They gave a very competitive price and said "bring it in." I couldn't make it for a few hours, so messaged to make sure they still had time for me and they did. I showed up by about 2:30pm and met Shawn. Simply put, Shawn is great. It wasn't much longer before they took my information and pulled my car into a bay. Within seconds after being up on the rack, the mechanic asked me to come look at something. I know my way around cars and around oil change places trying to gouge for extra repairs, so braced myself. However, as soon as I walked under the car, I could see a torn tie rod boot. And then I was shown the bad control arm on the other wheel. Those are both dangerous issues and I knew I had to get them repaired and hoped this wasn't going to destroy my bank account. I also worried about the work being done in time for my next work day, as I commute about 100 miles round trip a day. Shawn told me he could have the parts by end of day and the car would be ready for pick up the next morning, and the estimated price, which was totally in line with what I expected.
