Sea Glass Rentals & Property Management

Sea Glass Rentals & Property Management

I highly recommend Sea Glass Rentals to manage your property. As first time landlords my husband…read moreand I knew we were out of our depth and we were so grateful we found Kim and Diane. They did an excellent job at screening tenants, were so helpful at letting us know where we needed to make repairs and improve the property ahead of putting it up for rent, and had a long list of good contractors etc. at their fingertips. Once the property was rented we rarely had to think about it--Sea Glass took care of everything whenever a repair came up, but also kept great communication with us when it was needed. My husband and I joked that we wished we could hire Sea Glass to manage the house we actually live in. They did a much better job maintaining the property and keeping things running smoothly than we ever could have! And their fee is so reasonable. Absolutely recommend them to anyone looking to rent their property in the Bath/Brunswick/Topsham area.

I have owned a triplex in Brunswick for the last six months, and Kim and Diane have already helped me renovate two of the three apartments and find wonderful tenants. Kim and Diane take real pride in the apartments they manage, and it shows. They have a wide network of contractors and service people to call in when there's a problem, and they find creative solutions to all the little challenges that come up when managing an older building. Kim and Diane are also wonderful with tenants. I have been in their office when clients have come in to pay the rent, and the warmth and mutual respect was palpable. I have been especially impressed by the work they've done to support tenants in my building who have to move out due to renovations. Kim and Diane have gone well beyond the scope of their job descriptions to support tenants in finding new homes. I live thousands of miles away from my triplex, and I absolutely couldn't do it without the help of Sea Glass.

If I could give this zero stars, I would. Lisa seems like a really nice woman. Her mother, the…read moreco-owner, Susan, is not. I've never felt so belittled in a process to get an apartment. I want to warn others. I had spoken with Lisa on the phone first about an apartment in Lisbon. She was wonderful, and warned me that her mother could be a bit abrasive. She said she's often the one who needs to smooth things. I work in sales...I can easily adapt to all personality types. When I spoke to Susan on the phone, she abruptly said several times "Sorry, it won't work" in response to simple questions. About pets, heating, lowering the rent a bit. Normal conversations. She said to come in and get an application. Lisa said it would be best for her Mom to meet in person because she's rough on the phone. I truly felt like Lisa was rooting for me. I took time away from work to go get the application. When I arrived, they were sitting on a couch. I sat down, made small talk and played with their dog. I held out my hand for Susan to shake while saying "Nice to meet you." She looked at it, sighed and reluctantly shook it. Her body language was terrible. She said "I have a problem with you not paying for March. If you want it, you have to pay for March. I'm not giving you a month." I told her I had already paid my rent for March and she said "That's on you. Not me." I ignored her statement. But, it's March 6th. The closest weekend to potentially move is March 10th. There was no discussion of pro-rating rent. She acted like she was doing me a favor. I told her the unit was vacant and has been for months and I would move in April 1st. "You're not receiving money on it. What you would receive is a security deposit as soon as we sign a lease and the promise of a long term tenant who pays her rent on time." Her daughter had to tell her a couple of times to listen to me. Eyerolls, sighs. A 73 year old teenager. Actually, my 16 year old behaves more appropriately. I had to agree that if I gave a deposit and decided I didn't want the unit, it would be nonrefundable. I'm pretty sure that's illegal. I went into that meeting with 6 months of rent receipts to prove I paid on time. I am a single, professional woman with a teenaged daughter and a good job. I had W-2's as well as pay stubs. I went in prepared to give a security deposit because I've already seen inside the unit. I'm pretty sure my money would have been stolen. I'm pretty sure Susan is a nightmare to rent from. I read some other reviews online, and they indicate a great amount of mental instability. I would do business elsewhere. I am.

Rob Whisenant was, unfortunately, my landlord for a little under a year before I moved out and…read morebought a house to be done with landlord nonsense, such was my experience. One of my dogs has severe anxiety and would bark when I was away so I tried multiple things, which ultimately made the situation untenable. In that time, our sink stopped up. Rather than come look at it or send a professional, Rob "talked me through" fixing it. Not ideal but the sink got fixed, so it was water under the bridge. Then our fridge/freezer broke, the water line in it was leaking so it was shut off. A replacement was not put in for over 3 months. When I let Rob know that we had reached out multiple ways (text, phone, and email) and I would be deducting from my rent to make up for the lack of a working appliance, I received a phone call almost immediately after I sent the text, where I was told "don't you ever try to pull that sh*t again," before he ultimately told me to "go f*ck yourself" and hung up. After an experience like that, I was certainly not impressed or interested in continuing even a business relationship with Rob. Since moving out, I still have not received my security deposit back (despite having an approved subletter) and Rob told my former roommate that he "just couldn't get ahold of him (me)." Yes, I would absolutely like the $675 I am owed for my deposit but I'll forfeit if it means I don't have to interact with this man again.
