That said, since getting a real grown up job, time is of the essence and finding a place that did after work haircuts near my office was key. Toni & Guy offered a stylist cut for €42. This may seem a bit much, but David Marshall charges around 35 for those terrible four hour students cuts now, and my haircut at Toni & Guy was spot on. My stylist was Dennis, who had five years experience and was incredibly calm and reassuring, and very good at making certain I was completely happy with everything he did. He also didn't upsell me by telling me I shouldn't home-dye my hair (which usually happens). Everyone was chatty and friendly, and I'm definitely going to be going back here from now on. As a bonus, you can get your fringe cut for free in between visits.

The students you're modelling for aren't beginners (who practise on these creepy looking dummy heads) and every step is supervised. Plus, you get the sideshow entertainment of watching the supervisors criticise the life out of the students...then feed them praise...then take it away again. Better than reality TV. Three points: 1. They only do it weekdays in the mornings. 2. You've to book in advance (6706749) 3. It can take about two hours, because the student has to show every step to their supervisor before they can move on.

The same hairdressers have worked here since then, and my father now travels all the way from Wexford to get his hair cut here as he doesn't trust anyone other than his regular hairdresser to touch his curly locks. It predominantly services the blue rinse brigade, but The Central Hair Studio has dedicated and loyal regulars of all ages. The "Central" is a Sandymount institution, and one hopes that it will be able to stand strong against the competition as a new Toni and Guy has opened directly across the road.

I went back for my appointment on a busy Saturday morning and it was obvious that the staff knew everyone. It has a lovely atmosphere. After checking I was sure I really wanted the chop - they helped me by braiding my hair for the donation and cutting it off. I then got the usual wash and cut treatment and I totally love the style Ciara gave me. Wash, cut and blowdry is normally 35, which is great value. When I went to pay they knocked ten euro off the price to contribute to my donation, which I thought was the soundest thing. Ella Hair has all the best things about being a local hairdressers and a stylish salon.

They exactly understood what I wanted and my hair couldn't look better than the final result I got. It seemed that they gave a new life to them and I cannot be more satisfied than this. The price was fine compared to normal prices in Dublin and as a plus, they are really nice and kind. I would have loved to have them in Italy too, it's nice to spend money when it is worth it. My time at Image was definitely not mixed and I was over the moony haircut, the time spent in Becky's chair and the overall relationship I was able to build. Becky was amazing and she was incredibly thoughtful. She definitely was very informative and caring when it came to me and what I was looking for. She was also vocal about her own thoughts as she is the expert in the field. I would definitely recommend this place over all the Peter Marks and other big name salons I have been to. Image Beauty Salon is a true underdog that I would recommended to anyone looking for a place to sort their hair care needs.

Deirdre has been great in styling my hair to my needs. I decided to go natural for a few months and stop straightening my hair, she cut it for wavy and the odd straight day. She has also not been shy to advise me against certain styles and suggest others. She listens to me in the consultation and is the only hairdresser (bar one of her stylists) I have come across who actually listens to me and does what I want. Now, she is on the pricey side, €50 for a cut, which I didn't think was that bad, but friends tell me that they wouldn't pay that much. I find that the styles she has given me, though, grow out quite well and therefore I don't need to go back for months on end. My mum uses this service every 8 weeks or so for a cut and colour. My sister also goes to Deridre for a cut, only about as often as me (4 months-ish) and we have all found ourselves going back to this salon with a greater loyalty than to any other.
