As soon as I walked through the door I experienced God! It feels like family and they want everyone to be loved! This is a great church.

Ok, so I've been here a handful of times and not one had to do with a church service, unless you…read morecount a wedding. But I'm not because I don't consider myself a parishioner or even a guest at this church. So why have I been here? Well, my first visit was a group interview for a local business. It went down in flames and I ended up not getting the job. But that's a story for another day. That was my first look into this facility. It was very large and nicely laid out. They seemed to be more centered around making this a community center versus just a church. As I also said, I attended a friends wedding which was fantastic. Everything was beautiful, and they even enjoyed the mandatory premarital interviews/counseling. Lastly, I've been here several times to preform my civic duty-to vote!! I always enjoy that special time in November where I can pretend to make a difference. I'm proud to be able to vote and enjoy it thoroughly, I'm just never sure how much my vote counts in certain elections. Meh-but that's politics and not the basis for the review. What I love about this church are the numerous volunteers who opt to help during the election. Just by asking, I found out most were church members. Being inside those walls felt homey and good. But then again, I was overcome with my emotions from voting so maybe I wasn't thinking straight. Total voters coma. The facility is always immaculate. The grounds are super clean and well maintained. They also have a permanent Salvation Army trailer parked on the south side if you're interested. And there always seems to be events happening that fill up the numerous parking lots. They must be doing something right! I'm not sure that I'm ready to start attending church here. But for now, I'm content with visiting to vote.

Sermons are very much based in scripture. The pastors always have multiple verses (and the…read moresurrounding context) to support the Sunday message being preached. Worship song selections seem to be made very carefully to make sure the lyrics/messages are consistent with the Church's values and not taking unnecessary artistic liberties (I.e., not secularizing or misappropriating biblical teachings/concepts). The vast majority of people I have spoken with seem committed to fulfilling God's purpose for both themselves and for the ministries they are involved in. I've not been left with the impression that the people serving are "in it" for their own personal recognition or glory, which is very refreshing and important for anyone serving in a church ministry. The grounds are kept very nice and the auditorium, community center, classrooms, bathrooms, and common are clean, organized, and up-to-date.

Valley Baptist Church has been around for quite some time & I had passed it many a time growing up…read morein Bakersfield. I always thought it was a pleasant-looking church but never attended. Now that I've been there for a year, I have to say that unless I move out of town, this will be my forever church. Here's why: THE SCENE: The campus here on Fruitvale & Hageman is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful brick on the buildings, a stained glass window at the top of the main building, the two north parking lots have covered solar panels (also a cart that will pick up/drop off those in these parking lots), a large fountain & beautiful landscaping. No detail went unnoticed. The inside of the main worship building is huge but not daunting. Very clean, large foyer with couches, tables & chairs, a coffee bar & a shop. Once past the foyer, walking into the sanctuary it is wide open with 2 large staircases that are on either side of the stage. Very pretty, with a large cross in the middle on the south wall where the baptisms take place. Gorgeous sanctuary & even prettier around Christmas when they decorate. THE EXPERIENCE: Valley Baptist is a large church in town & that has never intimidated me because I came from an even bigger church. However, this has to be the most organized church in all of Kern County for how big it is. I've got to give their staff props. From my first visit, I received a welcome phone call, a visit at my home & a postcard within that first WEEK. I am one of thousands of attendees & I was blown away at the way they made me feel a part of. Finding a Life Group was easy as there are a multitude of them to choose from & are catered to your specific desires. Wow! Kids services are also amazing. They have a large building for the children that has 2 big fish tanks in the lobbies & cute wall art throughout. The teachers & staff are very warm & encouraging. Modern check-in protocols which are much appreciated. THE VERDICT: I have always been one to be nervous to invite people to church. After experiencing this church as my home church, it brings my great pride to be a part. Now, I invite everyone I meet who is curious, doesn't have a home church or is thinking about joining a church. This is beautiful, from the inside out. I hope the staff feels like what they're doing is valued & appreciated because that's how they've made me feel. They deliver & go above & beyond. CHECK THEM OUT.
