They were busy and not very well organised. The main guy seemed to be having to do everything - nice chap, very friendly! We had a doner kebab and a kofta kebab with 2 portions of chips. The meats were cold by the time we got them home - even though it's only 5 mins up the road. One portion of chips is enough for 2 people - we ended up feeding one bag to the seagulls the next day. The salad was nice and fresh. I'd give them a second chance.

Knowing that there is late night shopping, you would have thought that they would have extra staff off. After ordering and getting my food, we proceeded upstairs as the ground level was full. The seating area wasn't that clean. There was ground on grime on the table. There were quite a few tables which hadn't been cleared and were like that for a good 10 minutes or so. Not good for a busy Thursday evening. Having decided to get a mcflurry, I was surprised that the chocolate and caramel hadn't been mixed together like they usually do. All of the filling was on the top. I've since tweeted McDonald's UK who have asked for which restaurant it is, so hopefully, this was just a one off. Poor food, worse attitude -- won't be returning…read more I had high hopes for Merit Chinese Takeaway, but this was one of the most disappointing experiences I've had with a local takeaway. The food was below average -- greasy, bland, and clearly not made with care. The chicken balls were mostly soggy batter with very little meat inside, and the curry sauce tasted like it came from a packet. Rice was dry, noodles were overcooked, and nothing we ordered had the freshness or flavour you'd expect. But what stood out even more than the poor food was the atmosphere inside the shop. While I was waiting for my order, I witnessed the owner speaking to young staff members in a completely unacceptable way. It was unprofessional, condescending, and bordered on outright bullying. No one -- especially young people likely in their first jobs -- should be spoken to like that in the workplace. It made the whole experience uncomfortable and awkward. If the food had been incredible, maybe I could overlook a few issues. But when you combine subpar quality with an unpleasant environment and a lack of basic respect for staff, it's a definite no from me. I won't be supporting this business again.
