I don't know what was done to my face by the first plastic surgeon, although I can deduce what happened, but I looked totally different, and for the worse. Dr. Kusuma was able to give me my face back and a much younger and more beautiful one at that. He performed a full-face lift, upper and lower lid surgeries and neck surgery. I look much younger, and my features were not changed. I wasn't pumped up with fillers either. I have my face back. I feel beautiful. I will forever be indebted to Dr. Kusuma (at Suria Plastic Surgery.) I went through a learning experience with the first physician and with Dr. Kusuma. I would like to share what I learned with those that might be shopping for a plastic surgeon. I have been able to compare two plastic surgeons and how they operate. I hope that what I learned will be useful to other people. The items listed below compare the two surgeons. 1. Dr. Kusuma will not ask you to sign endless documents stating that no matter what happens, he is not responsible for the result. 2. Dr. Kusuma will not use general anesthesia for your surgery. 3. Dr. Kusuma films the complete surgery, and he will give you any films you desire to have. So, you actually know what went on during the surgery. 4. Dr. Kusuma will perform the complete surgery himself. He will not allow a "surgical assistant" who has never attended college to close any incisions, or to perform any procedure. 5. After the surgery, every time you visit Dr. Kusuma, photos are taken. He meticulously compares your progress. 6. Dr. Kusuma will not let you go until he deems the final product to be perfect. He will follow through with various measures to achieve total perfection. 7. If you have any problems, it is easy to make an appointment. You will not be asked to wait weeks before you can see him. 8. Dr. Kusuma is very approachable. You will never feel fearful when presenting a concern. She took her time and asked me what my goals were, what areas I didn't like, how frozen I wanted to be etc. She injected the filler really beautifully and I didn't feel like she went overboard but still lifted my sagging cheeks and removed the fine smile lines that were bothering me. Since I only needed about half of my vial she recommended I come back in 6 months and use the remaining. She also allows you to come back for a complimentary tweak on your Botox and fuller after you settle for a few weeks if you feel you need it. She definitely goes for a more natural look (I tend to like to be SUPER FROZEN) but I looked good after two weeks so I'm going to hold off until it's been about 4 months and the tox wears off. I will absolutely continue to use her going forward as she really knows her stuff. Even before she injected me she marked my whole face up with a pen to be as precise as possible. Instead, he fixated on the list and immediately refused to submit all referrals "because of a piece of paper." He also inappropriately asked why I changed PCPs, which is private information I chose not to share. Despite this, he disrespected my boundaries and assumed my motives, saying I switched providers because I didn't get the referrals I wanted -- which was invasive, rude, and untrue. His outbursts were so concerning that I genuinely felt unsafe. The clinic no longer felt like a safe medical environment but more like a bad neighborhood you'd avoid. He claimed that seeing an endocrinologist would be a "waste of time" -- a statement I never made. It began to de-escalate and then it went back to him saying "We are not going to work out" because I still wanted to see an endocrinologist. It is my decision and my right. Also, I requested a refund of my copay. This whole encounter was insane. I started to believe this must be a prank. Despite everything, I kept my composure, avoiding eye contact and keeping responses minimal. There is a serious issue when a healthcare provider reacts with this level of hostility over something as innocuous as a written referral list. I will be reporting this to the Florida medical board and booking platforms for further investigation. The next day I went to Memorial Hospital with an appt for a new PCP who submitted labs and an open referral for a gastro in front of me without hesitation, back talk, I did not have to over-explain or convince her, and she did not question me, and listened thoroughly to me without me having to giving her my written referral requests. She was also not offended that I brought them with me. She did all of this in ONE visit. The problem was Gerard! He tried to obstruct my care and exert control, but his efforts were 100% unsuccessful. I strongly advise against seeking care from this provider. He created a very hostile environment from the start which is dangerous for anyone seeking care.
