Reims is a special, very underrated city. Known mostly for two things, its champagne and its enormous cathedral, it has a lot more to offer. The champagne houses are of course absolutely worth visiting, and so is the cathedral, but Reims deserves more than just a day trip. Having lived there for several years, I came to appreciate the areas that were outside the city center. Enjoy a drink before dinner outdoors in Place du Forum. Walk down the street of the magnificent town hall. Find a dinner spot somewhere off the beaten path (aka, not on the main strip of Place d'Erlon). There are so many lively local spots, and the people of Reims are incredible. The history of the city is so rich and full of resilience and rebuilding after being destroyed in both world wars.
