I went to the Mercure Dusseldorf Airport to check-in for my reservation after pre-paying for four…read morenights in advance almost three weeks ago. The front desk person said that I was late to check-in and that they had given away my room and were completely booked. Not only would I be out of luck for this first night, but for the remaining three nights as well. She said that I would not be getting a refund, but she offered to give me the address of a close hotel that "was not as nice" but they had "decent rates". She expected me to pay for another room at their partner hotel.
I'm blown away at the piss poor customer service, the arrogance of the front desk, and the beyond poor experience with Mercure Hotels. I will take the necessary action and have contacted Mercure Corporate, Hotels.com, American Express and I will get my money back. What really gets me mad is that I was forced to re-book something else literally last minute, and with some conference in town rates were astronomical. I overpaid for a new room thanks to the "wonderful" Mercure Dusseldorf Airport.
