I should know, one of my first jobs out of school was working at the Industrial First Aid Service which was upstairs at the Adelaide Arcade where I used to put aspirin into aspirin jars, stick on the labels and place them into First Aid Kits; and need I mention that was in the last century! Yes, well, the actual Arcade itself was built long before that - in fact around about one hundred and fourteen years before I was born in 1885. The history web page will tell you they threw the place up almost as fast as a catwalk model throws up her Christmas dinner, and it has been a destination for the refined shopper ever since. Adelaide has a great deal of old historic buildings but nothing quite like the Adelaide Arcade. It is a rather lovely spot and sort of similar to the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney, if you stretch your imagination just a touch. The difference is that the QVB in Sydney sat idle and filled with the poop of pigeons for decades, while the Adelaide Arcade has been operating since it opened. If you have time you should go up onto the rarely visited first floor and have a look in their little museum, it's a cute little spot with some significant information on show. Free of charge and fine for kids. In fact it's a special spot that you can take the kids and help them feel they've had something special that will cost you nothing. Kids as young as six or seven upwards will enjoy the display as long as you can drum up a little enthusiasm for it yourself. City Cross is located in Rundle Mall, with entrances from Gawler Place and Grenfell St also…read more It is a really nice, clean shopping centre with a food court and many cafes and retailers. Upstairs you will find Billy Baxters, a post office and Harvey Norman. I believe there is also a party supplies store but I have never paid much attention to it. You can also access the post office from the escalators leading up from Gawler Place. Downstairs, there are fashion retailers such as Hotline and the popular Bardot. There is also Charlesworth Nuts (yum!) and Boost Juice, among a few eating and drinking options. Daily Bread is really nice, so is Oporto. There is also Indian and Sushi available, as well as your KFC and Hungry Jacks Express. The place has plenty of fresh air and the food court doesn't get stuffy. I won't comment too much on the toilets, however. All I will say is they need to get their act together. On the up side, City Cross has a wide range of stores, making it one of the better places to shop. Just don't go to the toilet.

City Cross is a big food court flanked by retail outlets. The food varies a bit, but isn't bad overall. The food outlets frequently change hands and theme here, and based on its location (and likely rent), it doesn't surprise me. This changes things up a bit though. One week some place will be doing stir-fry burritos, the next it'll be donuts. I like the layout of the food court as well. You don't feel as if you're packed into a big set of troughs here as levels and options for seating vary from couches to bars. Most of the stores in the complex are the type that benefit most from walk-by traffic. So, people coming in to eat and commuters making their way through have plenty of opportunity to distract themselves and dispose of their cash between bites.

There's an awesome little deli in there, a few places to get fresh fruits and vegetables, the very nice looking cinema, a few cafes, and really, it's got everything you would probably need if it were the only shopping centre you used. Parking, for me at least, can be a bit of a pain to find, but it's not too bad. There's parking underneath, but plenty outside as well.

The variety is what sticks out most in the Mitcham Square. It differs from other shopping centres around Adelaide like the Burnside Village in its family orientation and diversity. It's a cliché, there's probably something for everyone in the family in the centre, from kids and adult fashion, to toy and gadget stores, to the supermarket and cafes. Not to mention the impeccable Wallis Cinema upstairs. It has some history too. If you head along with the kids make sure to check out the big fiberglass whale outside in the courtyard. His name is squirt and he's a favourite of the locals. Everyone's had a play on Squirt.

Although it isn't my local, I am there quite a bit. Located on O'Connell St North Adelaide, it is accessible and convenient. Furthermore, there is onsite parking which is free for the first two hours - and for some reason whenever I park here, whether it's a Tuesday afternoon or a Saturday night, it's never full! It's always busy, but never full. There are always available spots, which is amazing because finding on-street parking during peak times can be a bitch. The place is complete with restrooms and best of all, Outback Jacks is just upstairs! Finally, what I love most about North Adelaide Village is that it's open late (restaurants, Foodland, and cafes) and you can get everything done in just one easy trip!

In fact when I came in here the first time I was absolutely amazed as I had never seen a shopping centre this huge. Mind you, that has all changed though, but it was still an experience as a child. These days I have to admit that it is a pretty boring place. They used to have an amusement park of the top level but that is now long gone - at least in Brisbane they replaced it with a cinema complex - here it is just a gym and Lincraft. The selection of shops, at least in my mind, are pretty ordinary, though the food hall is okay. Well, I should admit that I did venture into the London Tavern occasionally, but I have to admit that the place it pretty ordinary.

After experiencing Myer's appliance home delivery, I feel quite pleased. Their on-time arrival was only part of the excellent service. This one man did all the manual work for me. I didn't have to do anything except direct him where exactly to put it in the kitchen and sign the papers. Once he finished, I was delighted to see my new refrigerator in the middle of the kitchen, walked him out of the door, with no damages to the house interior or refrigerator itself. FANTASTIC. The in-store experience was wonderful, the fridge works fine, and even customer service was helpful in that she went the extra mile and showed me all the different types of fridges on sale, and at the end of our conversation, informed that I can have a 2 year payment plan rather than one year so that I could it afford it. Department stores always seem to provide top service! I always go back to Myer if I need to find something very quickly, and they are flexible in their payment plans, especially if you are buying something expensive like a new laptop. Additionally, I found my first actual Apple store! Amazing what unexpected treasures you can find while shopping around. It's even a great place to buy cheaper items, like extra pairs of much-needed underwear. Another thing I love most about being inside here, is that if your mobile connection/reception is low and not very good outside in the mall, you can step inside the Myer Centre and the Wi-Fi reception just skyrockets, and you can plan your next move.

First there's the ALL DAY BREAKFAST at Uncle Albert's Cafe (I stand by the all caps excitement); then there's the local Coles, which I actually like and they know us there; then there's coffee and baked goods; gifts; magazines and books; and a travel agent if you want to book an impromptu trip to Paris while on a sugar high. They often have great deals and better prices than supermarkets, plus all their fruit and veggies are really fresh. If you continue walking you'll find a great fresh pasta shop on your left, followed by a nice little gift shop that sells things like candles, soaps, cards etc. Another tip is the newsagents in the middle of Norwood Mall; they usually have a large table outside with heaps of books that are hugely discounted. It used to be the David Jones building many years ago. There is a large newsagent that has a lot of stationery and upstairs you have Spotlight and Harris Scarfes which is a uniquely South Australian department store often selling clothing, housewares and kitchenware at pretty good sale prices. I recently saved a couple of hundred dollars on a cast iron cooking pan here so I think it is pretty good. I have purchased many a DVD and CD from the JB Hi Fie store and have enjoyed a quiet coffee up the back of the foyer in the cafe.

If you're shopping for jewellery, this is probably one of the better hotspots for that sort of stuff, as every second shop appears to be a jeweller, inside and out. There are some great shops. JB Hifi, EB Games, Lincraft, Myer, pretty much everything you'll find here. I didn't remember there being so much stuff here, but there is. The food court has a lot of variety, which I wasn't expecting.
