I can't say I got the full experience. It was socked in with fog, rain and cold, COLD!…read more I arrived in white out conditions after a long day of trekking and never got to see a view. But the food was excellent both dinner and breakfast. The dormitory rooms were far from luxurious but they did the job. Coin-op showers are €4 for 3-5 min. (It says 3 but people reported longer). I wouldn't complain, about a thing but I would say be prepared for a less luxurious hut experience. I'd love to have had the gorgeous views. My review does not reflect the poor weather.

I can only fathom that the views from the top are phenomenal (and being in the clouds, with only a faint view of your surroundings is magical in its own way). Rifugio Lagazuoi is your reward at the top after a very grueling hike up - or if you take the easy way and ride the gondola up. We popped in to grab a bite, partially to escape the cool weather but also to refuel after making our ascent. With a decent amount of seating outdoors, as well as indoors, you can have your pick. In our case, most people were inside given the weather, but we got lucky and found a corner booth to squish ourselves into. Like most rifugios on the hiking trails in the Dolomites, the service wasn't that attentive, but once you got your order in, the food showed up in relatively short order. The harder part was getting the check to go, as once you have everything in hand, the attention turns elsewhere quickly. There's a decent drinks menu here, although I was very heartened to see a few craft beers from Italy. I tried the American-style pale ale, which was less hoppy but sturdier and with a nice copper tone to it - very drinkable and refreshing. The food, though, is absolutely amazing. It was probably the best of the rifugios that we visited, so it set the bar high for any other bites we had along the way. I went with the spaghetti al ragu, and it was phenomenal - noodles cooked perfectly al dente, with a hearty beef ragu sauce that was delicious but not too saucy. My wife's tagliatelle with mushrooms was excellent as well, with the same excellent preparation for the pasta, but with a fairly light cream sauce that let the pungent earthiness of the mushrooms really shine. We also shared a plate of speck as an appetizer, which was delicious - it was a very generous portion served all sliced up. While the hiking around this part of the Dolomites is fantastic, one of the treats of doing this - one of the harder, steeper paths to ascend - is not only the views from the top but the food as well. I can't speak to the hospitality if you are staying here, but if you want a bite, this is definitely one of the Rifugios that you should have a meal at for sure.

We stayed here two night of our 16 night Europe tour with Globus of 44 people.. This is in a cute…read moreski town and fun to look around even though we were there in May. The mountains around the town make it very lovely and we enjoyed our stay. The female owner makes this hotel special .. she's so friendly and charming .. and does everything with flare. Dinner entrees were served under silver domes and the unveiling was coordinated for effect. Over all the food on this tour was very disappointing but this was by far one of the better meals included. This Hotel dates back to 1826 as the oldest in town. The decor and woodworking is gorgeous though you do have to watch out for splinters .. so don't shuffle your feet. The doors have real keys with the heaviest key-fabs you've ever seen and some of the door ways are so dark you would find a flashlight helpful. I thought the town, hotel and our room were very cute. Loved having a balcony to go out on with a view. The beds were super firm .. all the beds in Europe have been FIRM which wasn't my comfort preference but must be a Europe thing. the free internet was slow and spotty but enough to check in with family. We had a do not disturb sign on the door but the staff entered anyway .. to clean the room .. close the shudders etc. Didn't like they came in though we put the do not disturb sign .. but noting was stolen or seemed out of place. There is no AC or Fans .. so we were a bit too warm ... thankfully it was spring not summer. As with many in Europe they did not provide hair conditioner which is standard in areas. Even though there were a few things wrong .. the owner was so funny and charming .. we loved her and our stay. When we were leaving she got in the road and stopped traffic for all our group to cross. Now that is service!!!!!

It is located in the heart of alps surrounded by divine natural beauty. The hotel itself is very cute and cozy. It has a huge dining hall/Bar on the ground floor. They also have a numerous spa amenities such as sauna, turkish bath, sleeping room, and my favorite of all hot tub on the patio that overlooks the mountains. A BIG YES!! The hosts treat all their guests like their family. The food was exceptionally good. Everything was made from scratch and served with perfection. The dinner menu changes daily based on the chef's special. Be sure to come with a huge appetite! The breakfast is a buffet style. They serve a wide range of bread, prosciutto, cereal, cheese and beverages. If you are here during the ski season, you can buy the ski pass directly from the hotel. The hotel also has a separate storage room for your ski gears which makes it super convenient. I highly recommend this place. it is a great treat with a fantastic hospitality! Can't wait to go back!

We booked a room at Hotel Due Leoni almost last-minute to visit some friends in Sacile and what a great accomodation it proved to be! The hotel furnishings are a bit outdated but this actually adds to its charme. I was very surprised to find a perfectly working vintage green SIP telephone on my nightstand- it was a sweet and nostalgic reminder of my youth. The rooms are very spacious with modern bathrooms and all the necessary amenities. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Piazza del Popolo and surrounded by beautiful Venetian-style buildings. An underground parking is available but it does require very skilled drivers to navigate the narrow parking slots. From the underground garage, an elevator takes you directly to the lobby and/or the rooms. The check-in process was fast and smooth with very professional and courteous staff. What really made a difference for us were the highest cleaning standards of the hotel: every surface was sparkling clean with nary a grain of dust to be found, all courtesy of their cleaning lady (I think her name was Elda and she came from Matera?) . Our room had a view on the Livenza River and the church. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend taking some noise-cancelling buds to protect your ears since the bells of the nearby church ring at every hour- it did not bother us. The breakfast buffet is deliciously scrumptious with plenty of variety. We would gladly stay here again.

Loved this hotel! Great value and great location. The view from our room was incredible!! Read…read morewhere the hotel was built in 1905, which is absolutely amazing considering how well kept it is. Breakfast in the morning was light, but filling. Offered selections of bread, ham, Turkey, swiss cheese, scrambled eggs, and pretty much any jelly you could imagine. Had some confusion related to our booking through hotel.com that almost resulted in a duplicate charge. Then, when wanting to sit by a window during breakfast, the waitress made a little fuss about us sitting there. Apparently, despite the silverware placement, we weren't supposed to sit there. 5 stars because it all ended well, and we had a wonderful time overall.

The staff did a wonderful job during my week long stay in Cortina for an annual European ski trip…read more We were a group of approximately 45 and they did an excellent job making this our home away from home. The hotel is located just outside the central part of Cortina, however a five minute walk put you at Corso Italia (the pedestrian shopping/dining area). Additionally, one of the ski bus routes stopped right outside the hotel (if you were planning to ski 5 Torri or Passo Falzarego). A short walk over the river brought you to the bus stop for visiting the Faloria and Tofana areas. Check-in was pretty seamless, as room keys were distributed without a problem in short order. Some of the staff helped with bringing luggage up the stairs as the elevator only had room for 4 people (without luggage), 2 people with luggage. From the very beginning, they went out of their way to make us comfortable. On the night of our arrival, Stefano the owner of the hotel briefed our group on the ski areas in close proximity. Additionally, he mentioned a few of the on-mountain restaurants which were not to be missed. His recommendations were excellent! My friend and I ended up sharing two rooms with a shared bathroom, so it meant that we had more space than normal. Each bedroom had a generous sized armoir to hang clothes and a shelf for folded items. The beds were firm, which was a welcomed relief after a long day of hitting the slopes. The housekeeping staff did a great job of keeping our rooms tidy. The main floor of the hotel had plenty of space for a larger group to hang out in the evenings. There is a small bar, well-stocked of course, for a pre-dinner drink. The dining room was spacious and had plenty of space for our group. Additionally, even with a large group it felt like things never got too loud, which I appreciate. Breakfast was a buffet, with assorted bread, pastries, and fruit. Additionally, some proteins were well-represented (eggs, meats, and cheeses). The croissants were fantastic. On the morning of our departure, the staff was kind enough to start breakfast 30 minutes earlier. Dinners were sit down, not buffets. Each evening, you selected your courses for the following evening. Each dinner consisted of a starter, first course, second course, an dessert. Portion sizes were perfect and the menu was varied. If there were any dietary restrictions, they were happy to accomodate. Each evening, when your arrived for dinner, candles were lit at each table. Additionally, bottles of red/white wine, sparkling and still water were sitting out ready to be drank. A wonderful hotel with lots of character.

Melodia del Bosco is a lovely hotel in Alta Badia that caters to all things outdoor activities…read more Melodia is family owned and operated. The owner is also an avid cyclist, which accounts for the amenities available to cycling groups. This hotel offers great value for the price; from the rooms to daily breakfast and dinner, complimentary wifi, among other things, for which I think I think make it a five-star choice. The rooms: I found our room to be very comfortable, spacious and clean. We had a view to the meadows on the backside of the hotel where you can see deer eating wildflowers in the mornings! All rooms basically come with a view of some sort and a balcony. The food: Breakfast is included in your stay and you get an array of fresh fruit, cheeses, salmui's, breads, pastries, granola, etc. You can also order eggs to your liking. We also enjoyed dinner here one night. The menu features traditional Ladin cuisine as well as some Mediterranean influenced dishes. Other amenities: The hotel offers laundry service which is super fast! They also have a sauna, steam room and massage onsite in addition to a play area for kids and a small gym. In the winter, they have a shuttle to the ski lift, since this is not located directly on the ski area. This hotel is also ideal for cycling groups, as they have a cycling garage with space to wash your bikes as well as storage. Melodia is not located in a town, which for some might not be ideal. But the overall value here makes it a five!
