I visited Reeth Bakery with my sister whilst spending a couple of days in the picture postcard-esque village during the summer of 2010. I love bakeries, and I loved the charm of Reeth Bakery. It is not modern inside, and it could perhaps do with a bit of a revamp, but that is a minor issue. My other minor issue was the fact that we had to queue for about 5 minutes to get in due to the number of tourists there and the fact that the bakery is small. Once inside, there was a lot of food on offer, and we bought some brownies, flapjack and a loaf Granarius bread- all were delicious.
I think there could have been more staff behind the counter at the time; there was only one woman who didn't seem to be very focused (I don't blame her for her stress- it was busy), but she was very smiley and cheerful and happily chatted to us while getting what we ordered.
Afterwards we went into the cafe in the room next door which, again, was very small, simplistic and could benefit from adjustments to its decor. An amiable, polite, intelligent young girl served us quickly without any problems; we each had a slice of cake and some Earl Grey. She was happy to give us directions that we asked for before we left. She was very mature and we were surprised to hear that she had just finished her GCSEs!
So, overall, we were impressed with the friendly staff who were willing to have a chat and a laugh with customers (something you don't often find nowadays) and all of the food we bought was delicious. The bakery is a charming place and well worth a visit, as long as you're prepared to queue if you visit in the holidays! read more
