We had a meeting before leaving the dock when we were informed that we would not be going out to the Gulf Stream due to restrictions which made the trip unworthy. Per the Captain, we went out 11 miles and dropped anchor and fished in that area. We were catching fish that we had to through back. I observed the FM claim a fish was too small & he threw it back in, but not before he stuck the fish to bleed it out. I did not understand that move. Anyway, another boat with 2 people on it went out 40 miles and all of their fish were twice the size of the fish caught on boat. One guy caught 55 lbs. of fish and the other caught 66 lbs. and more variety. Total, we caught 64 lbs. Bottom line is if we paid Gulf Stream fishing and didn't go but 11 miles offshore, I believe that we should have been reimbursed for them not holding up to their end of the bargain. Non was offered. We paid for a full day gulfstream trip, but because of the weather we were running slow and only made it a little past channel marker 14. We did not get to the gulfstream. The mate was awesome but the choice to go out was only about money. We had no business being out there for a safety concern and for the sake of we didn't get what we paid for. After coming back in the captain was unprofessional talking about our business finances and if we were using a business card and writing this trip off on the business etc etc . As we are very new to the offshore fishing world we then got an unprofessional text from the captain about the tip we left. The weather only proceeded to get worse for the rest of the week. We already had planned a have day inshore trip but because of our experience during the previous days trip and the weather being worse we asked to cancel. The captain stated "per cancellation policy etc" we chose to just pay the deposit we owed and not go on the trip. We continued to get numerous text messages about us canceling and hurting his business. A friend of ours called the captain about going fishing that day and he said no due to weather. Clearly the message trying to push us to go out was not in our best interest since the captain told someone else (within an hour of asking us to go out) that he would not be going out due to weather. I feel like this trip was all about money. I would not fish with them again!!

We were told this would be a good spot to find trails to go for a short run, and it was true. There was plenty of trails, to safely walk and run on, rather than along the busy road with beach bums driving by at crazy speeds. There is plenty of parking and nicely maintained trails we found. After our run, we decided to poke into the fort it self, which was free to enter, and we explored some of the space, and some of the educations exhibits. They had a little bit of something for everyone, and tried to make the visitors center exciting and fun for kids. I'd 100% visit this spot again, maybe when it's not so hot, but either way, we enjoyed our visit. The park and fort are well maintained, and preserved, with clean restrooms, and staff to answer any questions you might have.

Okay, this place is quite the gem of beaches in the area. Tons of free parking. Lots of shelters…read morewith grills. Convenient and clean bathrooms. Even a massive covered shelter with a snack bar and lockers to keep your stuff in. Oh yeah, did I mention all of this is FREE?? Even at 3:00pm, the beach wasn't over crowded and there was plenty of parking. On rainy days, you can forgo the beach and check out the Fort Macon museum. There are even trails you can walk! Not hard to spend an entire day here! There were park rangers patrolling to keep everyone safe and maintain the beauty of the park. Not much more you can ask for.

However, I have to knock off a star for the lack of air-conditioning inside the boat. There were bothersome flies everywhere doing their witchcraft in this hot-blowdryer-in-your-face heat. For the money we're paying for a trip, a/c should have been included. Other than that, it was a good trip. It was awesome watching the mobs of jellyfish in the ocean. The staff were friendly and helpful with releasing our fish from our rods. I caught a lot of fish on this trip but none of them met the legal minimum size to keep. However, my party had fun before some of them got sick. Fish will be filleted for you for fifty cents per pound.
