Family trip that was supposed to be a great experience for the children but the owner Kathy is very rude and seem to be racist, very ignorant. It's not worth the ride to be turned around because the owner is very UNPROFESSIONAL. She didn't greet us like a hostess supposed to do instead she yelled and scream and made my family and I Very very uncomfortable so we never got a chance to ride. She Let her dogs loose and went in the house after the screaming, I don't advise anyone to pay to be screamed or yelled at. It's not worth the drive up.... #BlackLivesMatter read more

Haven't horseback ridden in nearly 15 years, and back then it was a mule. My fiancé was keen on horseback riding, so we did. This was a great place for it. Lots of horses, for which the experienced owner chose the best steed based on my limited experience. A lazy trek around the beautiful farm and forest, all about an hour and a half. Horses are well trained, but still make you feel like you have to control them occasionally, instead of a horse on a rails kind of trip. If you're lucky, you'll get a trot in, but it's mostly a walk, which is what we wanted. I had Tucson for my trip, likely picked because I am such a newbie. She was a great horse, very responsive. Only complaint was that cash and check were the only payment options. But for such a small operation, it was not significant enough of a problem to lose the 5th star. read more

This was our second and a last visit. I called ahead as recommended to schedule an appointment. We wanted to do more activities that day so I asked for morning hour . The lady told me she is only available at 1pm. I told her we are not able to and thanked her for her time. Than she called me back another group canceled and offered us 10:30am. We came little past 10 am to get ready for the ride at 10:30. I told them exact ages of the children and yet they were not ready for us and took forever to choose horses for us and left the barn an hour later. We got some clear instructions everyone understood. We had a big group practically all beginners and small kids. it was only two ladies for the entire group (7 adults 5 kids). So the ladies were getting everyone ready one by one which means the people sitting on the horses were without any experienced supervision. Especially children. We did not get chance to have children by parents. So if the kid needed help we were somewhere away in the line..... we had to keep, otherwise we would get yelled at. We all were trying to keep horses in line 5 feet apart as we were told but they kept moving, and since no-one was with us to help or give more instructions it was quite frustrating. My daughter was little experienced with horses (12yrs old) and even she had her hand as instructed all of the sudden her horse jumped and caused a chain reaction with other horses. No one with us to help. One bigger horse started backing up into another one who got really spooked. That scared the rider and he probably puled the rains but since we were alone not knowing what to do it would be everyone's reaction. He fell of the horse and the horse fell too. All horses got scared, but everyone were able to calm them. Luckily no one was injured and horse was ok too. we were all pretty scared from what happened and the lady kept yelling at us. Since you need a little time to get use to the horse they can't expect you are able to manage him right the way. My son got very scared and one of the adults too and just at the beginning of the trail they decided to go back because the lady kept yelling at people every time the horse started to eat something. Instead of coming to us showing again how and what to do in calm manner. Or yelling at my 7yr old for not being in the line. He was trying his best to keep horse in place but since the lady had really unprofessional attitude he started to cry and wanted to go back. We read the rules about if you do not keep in line you will be send back to the farm... and it stressed him. So he was feeling bad he is not doing ok with the horse. Little encouragement and extra explanation would work. I honestly do not understand how they can lead kids summer camps. My niece was trying to schedule an appointment for Sunday and since it was only two people they di not accept them. And I have been told they do not do trails on Sunday. Web site says otherwise. The trail was beautiful and everyone was ok handling the horses after 5 min of ride . Just the start was awful ,very unprofessional. read more

Payed TWICE as much and ALMOST BUCKED OFF TWICE! My friend and I drove an hour and a half to get here, so we were really excited, and the lady we spoke to on the phone sounded nice. Once we got there we had to wait an hour for the horses to be finished saddled, which is fine, delays happen. We informed the woman of our little to no experience, my friend having not ridden at all, and I having ridden only 3 to 4 times in my life, so I by no means gave the impression that I was an expert rider. Firstly, the woman was very rude, making comments about my clothing (I wore shorts, as I've worn shorts before while riding and have been completely fine, and yes I was fine after this ride too). She then continued to belittle me and yell at me through the ride in front of the group because my horse would try to eat a leaf and she said "I was ruining her horse by letting him do that"... I let it go and let it roll off my back, I was trying to command the horse but was struggling the entire time. I was assigned Lucky, a beautiful but incredibly untrained horse who constantly tried to bite the other horses. It was obvious this horse wanted to be a leader, as he kept attempting to get to the front, I constantly had to try and pull him back, but he responded very little. The woman continued to bark at me, but my friend spoke up and asked her to stop being mean, as I was trying to command the horse. The woman made comments saying "You act like you've never been on a horse before.. you're riding like a green horn! You're friend is doing better than you!" just uncalled for. I finally said "Maybe if your horse was more well trained I wouldn't have a problem." The woman didn't say a negative thing from that point out. Even as the ride went on, she began to tell my friend how much Lucky loves to stop and eat (which she had blamed me for) how lucky hardly listens (again, I had been yelled at for) and he doesn't get along with other horses (yup, my fault) Not only that, Lucky tried to buck me off not once, but twice! Luckily from my very little experience, I kept my cool and was able to hang on, and only drop my phone from my pocket. The woman never even acknowledged his behavior or said a word to me, even though she had apologized to my friend for her behavior... Very sad that we drove all that way for such a disappointing and unbelievably unfriendly experience. The other horses appeared very well mannered, so I'm by no means suggesting all the horses were untrained. If you have more experience I highly suggest Lucky, but for those like me, with little to no experience, ask for a different horse. Cruz was beautiful and great for my friend. Not to mention, the ride was supposed to be 1.5 hours for $25, but ended up being 3 hours and we had to pay over $40 which we never signed up for! I would not recommend this place to anyone... very disappointing. read more

I was on summer vacation and had been up in Sparta for the Elroy-Sparta bike trail. It was our last day up there and I loved horses (previous tense, notice). We called ahead for reservations and my mom asked them if we need anything. Typically for riding you need heeled shoes and long pants. I didn't have either. We asked if that was okay and they said it was fine. We got there and there was another mother and daughter with us. Not even five minutes into our trial ride, the horses got spooked. My mother got bucked off and so did the other woman's daughter. My horse reared up and took off. It went for a mile or two before coming back to the barn and throwing me over on concrete. I was incapable of moving and my arm had swollen up. With normal horses, yes it's common for horses to get spooked, but these were trail horses. They are trained NOT to get spooked so easily. These horses were freaking out. To make matters worse the three horses that had come back (all riderless) started fighting. The door was locked and I couldn't get away from them. My step-dad and mom had to carry me to the car to get to the MAYO clinic nearby in Eau Claire. My right arm below the thumb had swollen horribly bad and I was cut up and bruised everywhere. We had X-rays done and nothing was broken, just a little out of place (I really don't remember too well). I would have been fine though except the women who ran the place basically said, 'Now honey, when a horse takes off, you don't scream because you'll frighten the horse.' That was the worst advice in my life. It was like they thought it was MY fault. Long story short: because of this place, I am terrified of horses. This is by far the best place I have found to go horseback riding. The horses are extremely well behaved and require very little correction, if any. The view while riding is incredible. We have revisited this place many times and have never been disappointed. read more
