Well after playin today Sunday July 12 the course was awesome. Yes there was one green that was in rough shape and another not great. All the others were fantastic. The rest of the course was excellent as well. It's a very picturesque course and some long holes but there are also some shorter par 4's but traps on the course really come into play and there are a lot of them. The 18th has got to be one of the toughest finishing holes I've ever played. Completely protected by water and a sand trap. Overall I highly recommend it. At this point there is only one thing to say. $175 USD a round is ONE WAY to keep the playing conditions nice! For whom I have no idea. This place must be a ghost town on the weekends now. Stay away for 2026. Greens are all damaged and the bunkers are mostly rock strewn fill. While the course layout is great it's sad to see the lack of maintenance or upkeep around the greens. Much better course out that way. read more

Our group had two 3somes booked and I turned out to be an overcast day. There was about 2 cars in the lot total.empty to the point were there was no starter needed as the course was as described to us " wide open". As there was no groups in front of us -literally for the time we were on the range and no groups behind us at all..our party combined play as we were celebrating a life event, three holes in a single came up and we let him through. The ground crew asked if we were playing as a combined group and we said yes as it was open and no groups behind. The ranger came out one hole later and said we had to split up because we were on pace for a five hour round. I'll add that the entire cousre that day was cart path ONLY!! He continued to stay behind us for several holes there after. Finished the walking round 18 minutes "behind" and even though we stay and chatted in the car lot.. not a single group be home us for text 30 minutes and that was a twosome.. instead of letting the group that assembled some people Flew others drive long hours to celebrate.. a wide open course with no additional Times on the book the ranger and Gm were terrible and I've played that course for at least 8-10 years now but I'm on the fence on if I will again.. read more

I was met at my car with a golf cart and a hand with my bags. Staff was quick and polite. Course is beautiful & challenging. Anything that wasn't in good shape was being addressed. Worth the $$ read more

Course was in really nice shape, but just played a 5hr round teeing off at 8am on Sunday morning. Would not drive an hour from Boston ever again to play with that type of pace first thing in the morning. Rangers tried to speed up the pace to no avail. read more

Potential but not worth $135 on a weekend where none of the staff gives a damn about your experience. Greens were painfully slow, like municipal slow, no ranger, very slow play and a Buncha jackaloons hitting 10 balls off every tee in front of us. This course is a no go for me again. I don't play golf at all, but I did spend a few very pleasant hours here today at a golf outing. We had a pretty big group - 144 golfers plus 25 more for dinner. Red Tail did a tremendous job with our dinner. We had a buffet set up under a big tent, and the food was excellent. Steak, grilled shrimp, baked potatoes, salad, vegetables, and a few other goodies. My steak was very good -lots of flavor and grilled perfectly. The skewered shrimp were outstanding -very tender and buttery. I also liked the Caesar salad and sautéed veggies. Our big group was spread out all over the place -under the tent, on the big deck, and on the grass behind the clubhouse. So as far as the food service goes, they did a very good job. read more

Fun course, great layout, decent greens. With that said for this price a bunch of the tee boxes were very beat up and not at all what I expect to see when I play a course that costs over $100. Most of the other tee boxes were totally fine. Greens were rolling nice but looked like no one fixed divot marks but not the courses fault. Would love to play the course again. read more

I used to love this place. I went to check in and they charged me over $170 for a single player. The website stated $170 with a cart for two players but they did not honor it and had to pay $170+ to play the course that was in horrible shape and took a few minutes over 6 HOURS! Horrible pace of play. What happened to this place? Great track when it is cared for. The price is ridiculous! $170? Should have been $75 max. Bye bye Red Tail Hello anywhere else. I've been playing at Red Tail for years as it's one of the best public courses in Central Massachusetts. I've found the conditions to always be close to perfect and my last visit certainly didn't disappoint. The greens and fairways were all in excellent shape as I expected. As far as golf goes, Red Tail gets a gold star in my book. When I heard about the recent upgrades to the range and clubhouse I was excited about the thought of what they'd transform into. I imagined something similar to what was done at Shaker Hills - another great local course and awesome clubhouse makeover. Honestly, Red Tail completely whiffed at an opportunity to make the place great. The range is flat now so I guess adding fill and leveling it out is considered an upgrade. However, all they did to the clubhouse was remove carpeting and add a grey floor throughout. I found it to be cold and sterile, like a cafeteria as opposed to a space I'd want to hangout post round. I guess I anticipated a redesign to their lackluster bar area (6 barstools tops) but no dice. They added lipstick to a pig. Such a shame! Anyway, definitely go to Red Tail for the golf and if you're going to hit the 19th, drink on the back porch. read more

while packing to move to NC, found a Gift Certificate for $200 that had fallen under our file cabinet. It was issued in 2014 and after 4 calls to the Pro Shop and trying to track down who bought it (because they don't have records) and getting multiple different answers, they won't honor it. Course is in okay shape for early march. But the pricing at 95 dollars for 18 holes and a cart is unbelievable priced considering they have the 11th hole closed, and a temp green in the middle of the fairway on 7. So realistically you're paying 95 dollars for 16 and a half holes of golf. Not worth it til they fix these issues. read more

Driving range is included - so you can hit away before your round. - The course is in good shape, kinda. The day I played, they had just aerated the greens the day before. Starter said "two putt maximum". What? And they still charged me full price? Shame on you Red Tail. Workers were out the entire round - spreading sand or wiping it away or watering greens. Seemed like we had the place mostly to ourselves but there's a reason why. We were passing through town and had carved out the afternoon for a round. The day turned out surprisingly chilly with temps in the 40s and a fairly stiff wind. We were here though and played as planned. At first I thought it might have been a mistake when the snow flurries started flying on the second hole. The course is quite beautiful even in early spring before the trees had filled in. There's plenty of elevation change and a good selection of tees to choose from. Some tees were moved around due to course work so at times we were hitting from the tips and other times from the ladies. I found the course challenging but fair. I scraped together a few pars including the stunning par 5 18th hole that tempts a good drive to try for the small water protected green in two. I was a bit surprised that they have electric carts with some of the steep hills on the course but they held up fine. There were free balls on the range to warm up but I hate wasting my few good swings there. The clubhouse was cozy especially with the fireplace to thaw us out. Our server was super nice and took very good care of us. We sampled the usual wings and fries things like onion petals and everything was hot and fresh. read more

Don't waste your money. New ownership has let this place go to crap. We played it on Saturday 10/09/21. Granted its late in the season but not a excuse for what is supposed to be a high level facility. Earlier in the year it was decent, and maybe on a good day worth the ridiculous price. Now it is so beat and destroyed that half the holes have extensive large area's of dirt in the fairways. They aren't putting any effort into keeping up with it and repairing the damage. Even the seed/fill box on the cart was empty. Why is that really a problem? ...because they are still charging full price (which was too much to begin with). They dont even mention it to you or apologize about the conditions, They didnt have a starter so it was take your best guess at it, The driving range is closed, didnt have a ranger, didnt have a bag drop person, The bathrooms are noticeably in very bad condition and need remodel. What was once one of the top courses in the area has plummeted to mediocrity. Good job new owners! read more

This is a beautiful golf course. But they charge $100 so you better have some amenities! Driving range is off mats and no distance markers! You then continue to drive away from club house and across a road to putting green and then first tee. No drink cart service! No water on the course! Bar and restaurant are mediocre at best. The course conditions and facilities were very good. Some tee boxes were a little beat up, but it's early in the season. Last time I golfed here a few years back, the course upkeep and facilities were awful. I'd say it was a complete 180 this time around. Complimentary range balls with the tee time. The range was recently reconstructed and is much better than the previous. Carts have GPS which was not included last time I played here. Course layout has always been great, but it's even better when the conditions are pure. The staff were very friendly and the drinks/food were great! It's a long course so I would not recommend walking unless it's twilight hours and you're trying to get in a quick 9-12 holes. Anticipate between a 4-5 hour round playing 18 on the weekend. I recommend an early morning tee time. Considering the course is around 7,000 yards from the silver and gold tees, finishing a round in 4 and 1/2 hours is pretty good with a foursome. It might be beneficial for a ranger to ride around the course. There is a starter at hole 1 but I can see how it can get backed up in some spots without someone riding around. Definitely will be going back this season. It's a pretty penny, but when the course conditions are like they were today, it's worth the money. read more

I've played golf on and off for 10 years, this course was a joke. Never have I ever played in such wet, sloppy conditions. I fell three times. They don't even have stairs/steps for the majority of the tee boxes, therefore you're climbing mud hills. Insanely over priced, poorly managed, and an ugly course overall. First I'll say this - the course is beautiful. We had a 12:30 tee time and we're on pace to finish by 5:30. All the ranger has done is follow us and tell us that we're so slow, people are calling the clubhouse. We've caught the group in front of us on about half the holes. I doubt we'll be back. $105 a head for someone to be consistently rude? Update: the ranger did apologize for harassing us and gave both of the women in our foursome 2 free sleeves of balls. read more

I thought the greens were in great shape. In the Fall, the course is very pretty. It's a bit of a drive from the South Shore, but we got a $60 rate for the afternoon so it was worth the drive. The course layout is interesting. I would go back. Afterward, we grabbed a bite and the food was fine. read more

Played twilight last week and had a guy with a basket going around picking up balls. Staff did nothing after we reported it to them. First time playing the course and We were very impressed. The only concerns were the condition of the greens. Could have been smoother even though they were plugged last week. Some areas in fairways had been affected by the heat and humidity that has plagued the northeast this year. Many holes with elevation changes that I personally love and from the 6200 yard tees we found it very fair. A few blind shots, but part of the mystique of the course. A tad expensive $105.00 for a public course, felt it was more of a $60-70 range. read more

This place is a complete joke. Made a tee time online, got an email that was completely blank. Called the club house for 2 days straight, left messages and got no response. Finally they answered 2 hours before the tee time, and said my father couldn't ride along as a paying cart fee (he's a cancer patient trying to enjoy something in his life for just 9 holes) and they said "the optics" of it wouldn't be right. This place is guaranteed to fail, complete waste of time. Good luck treating people this way. I do not recommended this course to anyone of my family or friends, and frankly, to anyone else. I stopped by this past weekend to practice at the newly renovated range and have been many times since it reopened in the summer. The two individuals who were working behind the counter told me I could not use the range unless I had a tee time. I asked, why? I've been here many times to practice, paid my $20 to use the range, practiced for an hour and that was totally fine. The guy said to me well it's because to many people were "shanking" golf balls into the woods. He also stated that our head pro made the decision a couple weeks ago. Funny, because I was just there practicing less than a week ago. Now, I lost interest in the conversation from there and just said ok, your loss and left because I have better things to do with my time than to be belittled like that. However, I will make a comment and ask a question. 1. I don't shank golf balls into the woods. 2. For the ones that have tee times and don't pay an extra fee to use the range since it's complimentary, it's ok for those people to "shank" balls into the woods? Because, I've seen that a lot there. I am a resident of Devens and it's very convenient for me to swing by the practice facility for an hour here and there. I pay my taxes in this town so we can have a golf course and people from all around can use it. It does not say anything on your website that you must have a tee time to use the range. For you to exclude anyone including myself from the range because of such a lame excuse like that you should be ashamed of yourselves. I really like Red Tail. My golf buddies and I usually try to get here at least once a season. The pre-season Groupon makes it attractive as full price is a bit steep. But even then still worth it I think. Played here a few weekends ago and the conditions for late in the season were impeccable as always. The staff here is top notch. The included driving range is a nice touch. The course has some challenging holes but overall not so difficult as to be off-putting for a 100 golfer as myself. read more

This course has gone downhill fast. My buddies and I used to play it routinely. Went back there this last weekend for a late afternoon round and we were amazed at how bumpy and slow the greens were. The greens used to be outstanding. To add insult to injury, once we reached the 12th hole we ran in to 4 groups all bunched up on the same hole. Unbelievable...! It was clear to all of us that the pro shop was putting golfers out on the back nine and just didn't give a rats ass about the players already on the course trying to get the round in before dark. When we called to ask what was going on we were met with a "sorry, there's no nothing we can do...and the rangers have all gone home." Wrong answer Red Tail. Wrong answer. It's a pitiful shame to wreck what was once a GREAT course with shoddy upkeep and even shoddier staff. You won't be seeing my group back....ever. 5+ hours? Up yours.... read more

played red tail yesterday 9-7-2021! paid the senior rate-$75 ! we played there for the second time this year! it was barely a month ago when we played it the first time! it is my favorite layout in eastern massachusetts! i am shocked at what has happened to the beautiful golf course in one month's time! it has gone to hell under the new ownership! the fairways have developed a fungus that covers nearly every hole on the course! the bunkers have very little sand in them( never a good sign)! the trash receptacles do not get emptied( another bad sign)! they no longer employ a starter( third bad sign) when i asked what the rate during prime time on weekends was, the man at the counter said"$130" OUCH- ROBBERY ! my advice is to stay away from here for the balance of 2021 and hope for a return to glory in 2022! read more
