We did the: New Orleans: Millionaire's Tombs of Metairie Cemetery Tour and Sally was absolutely amazing! My wife and are cemetery junkies and have always wanted to see Metairie Cemetery and seeing it with Sally brings the cemetery to life. Sally tells of the architecture of the tombs, the inspiration behind why they were built and the symbolism of the tombs and statues. This is my absolute favorite tour we have taken in New Orleans. If you love the beauty and history of cemeteries this is an amazing way to learn about New Orleans and some of its famous residents, we highly, highly recommend doing this tour with Sally!

I'm visiting New Orleans and wanted to book a cemetery tour because the ornate mini mausoleums fascinate me. I am so glad I came across this tour by Red Sash Tours. Sally was an excellent guide and extremely knowledgeable. She made the tour interesting and engaging. She was so much better than the tour guides from the bus companies that I overheard. 100% recommend!

This tour was WAY better than I thought it would be. Only cemetery in New Orleans that locals use as a public park. Used to be a race track back in the day, and now a cemetery because someone bought it with pettiness after the civil war. I knew I wanted a tour of this place because I wanted to see Anne Rice's tomb (Ive read her Mayfair witches books), as well as all the millionaires plots. There was so much more though, such as "hotel row," the hunched over angel, as well as the guy that started Popeyes. Learned about the different things to look out for and what they mean in cemeteries such as an angel pointing up means "accention," the first three letters of the greek alphabet are on some tombs as well as alpha and omega which means the beginning and the end, and four angels that mean faith, hope, grace, and charity, as well as the difference between a 1, 2, 3 people plot and what they do with them after a year and how they all pile up below with just the bones (40 inches below). (You just need to take a tour to have them explain). Crematorium plots, land above ground so they aren't buried beneath (grass from Greece), and a bunch of millionaire and mosuleum plots. Even one that looks promiscuous. SO many stories which are all awesome! This is a MUST DO when in New Orleans!

It was the Dead of Night Ghosts & Cemetary bus tour and we went to the French Market where Gallatin Street used to be, Morning Call which is a beignet and bathroom stop and totally unnecessary as for as I was concerned - it was only a 2 hour tour!, a Masonic cemetary, an underpass where many bodies were unearthed, and the former Charity Hospital. The tour guide spouted stats without much sourcing and didn't quite place the statistics with the times. 100,000 dead bodies in the river? When, over what stretch of time, and how big was the population of NOLA at the time? Is that even possible? My spouse is an epidemiologist and is keenly aware of population/disease and he was unconvinced. This tour also touts a 90% success rate of capturing paranormal phenomenon during each tour. Hmmm. Anyway, do your research on these tours is all I can say...

To say that the Storyville Museum achieved its goals and earned five stars would be an understatement; this may very well be the best museum I've visited in at least the past three years. The story of Storyville is complex, full of nuance, and with many unanswered questions. For me, one of the hallmarks of an excellent museum is that it lets these questions linger; the rough edges are not smoothed over, and visitors leave pondering big moral and ethical questions. That's exactly how I felt: the museum gave me a fantastic scaffolding of understand about Storyville, but it was also clear that its socioeconomics, its racial and gender dynamics, and its complex intersection with local, state and federal law are vast unplowed fields of potential for masters theses and PhD dissertations. For me, the intersection between prostitution and the political power structures were fascinating. Ton Anderson is a case study of contradictions, and one could spend a career trying to peel back the layers there. So too are the intersections with New Orleans's rich musical cultures and traditions. The stories of the madams themselves were equally captivating. Josie Arlington's and Kate Townsend's lives were riveting, but so too were the countless other women who didn't achieve their considerable wealth and power. The price of admission isn't cheap, but it's well worth the investment. Plan to spend at least two hours here, and learn about an important part of New Orleans's history that's well worth seeing.

I would give him 10 stars if I could!!!…read more Mr. Leon Waters is an amazing man that fools you at first thinking he will walk slow but he suddenly jets off and you are left there scrambling to catch up! He is a wise man who has lived through so much and he not only witnessed things but takes action to make right what is wrong. I was so impressed with his bravery and the many ways he initiated change for good. He defines terms for you (like how a Creole person is a child born of black and white parents). And like another Yelper mentioned, he provides a portfolio given to you that accentuates his tour and it's VERY well organized!! It is a very interactive tour and you get to hold very historical items. I won't say what they are so I don't ruin it, but those helped me learn a lot. It produced a strong emotion for me to experience something that was used for evil on precious children and adults. This tour really takes you deep into the mindset of things. Mr. Waters also teaches us about symbolism and how important it was in many aspects! It's about a 2 hour walking tour and I highly recommend bringing enough water (but there are no restroom breaks in between) and a hat. This tour is worth every minute of your time and New Orleans will have a different look to it after you go through it. It's very educational and important to know the history.
