My single star review reflects my utter disappointment with this store. Just another tourist ripoff store. Nice stuff but way overpriced. I spent $60 on a purse last year when I visited family here and $152 this year. This time I purchased 2 hats. One was a Nova Scotia tartan cap for my husband. He needs a 2XL. My daughter and I were there, on August 19, 2023, and we looked for a 2XL. We found one. Great! The clerk took them to the till, I paid and took the hat home to Arizona where I live. I trusted that the clerk had given me the right size after all that time searching. Never bothered to look and verify. Why would she make a mistake, right? Once in AZ I removed the tags with the price and gave it to my husband. It's a gift. That's why you remove the tags. He loved it. He put it on but then it just sat there on top of his head. That's unfortunate. The biggest size doesn't fit? And then? Oh no! She put the wrong size in the bag. Well, can't help it now. I put it away in the original bag with the receipt in a clean clothes closet, safe and to be kept if I found someone else whom it might fit. After all, I wouldn't likely be back in Nova Scotia until next summer. And then, unexpectedly, for an injured member of the family, I made a new trip to Nova Scotia less than a week after returning to AZ. So, I took the hat in the original bag with the receipt with me and back to the store. I explained the circumstances, noting that the mistake was not mine but the employee's and that I would really appreciate if I could exchange it and make my husband happy. But no. Store policy is 7 days, original tags attached and not worn. It was never worn. Those tags can be replaced. Just take them off the hat that you're giving me in exchange for this one. And what does 7 days do for a tourist when they're there on a visit from their cruise ship that leaves in a few hours? It's set up that way. It's done on purpose. Tourists buy the stuff, then leave. May be the store's fault, as is the case here, but they're getting themselves off the hook this way. Those tourists are long gone on their ships. The store clerk told me that she had to speak to the owner and after she did that she was sent back to me with the bad news. Store policy requires items with original tags, not worn, no more than 7 days. It should have been the owner herself. Rather unfair and cowardly to force your clerk to be the messenger. I told her to look forward to a review here and a few other places probably. I had a friend once who owned an upscale clothing store. Sometimes things were returned. She always took them back. Never a question or some store policy crap. Her policy was to take everything back unless it was completely destroyed. Would you like your money back or exchange for another one? I asked her once how much money that cost her. The answer: Nothing. In fact it makes money. I have a happy customer who will be back with her friends and the piece goes on the sales rack where it will still make money and draw customers into the store. A multi-millionaire shop owner's advice. Bad treatment makes disappointed customers who write reviews to warn others before they go shopping there. And they definitely won't bring their friends. Do you know what? If she had exchanged the hat for me I would probably have bought a nice scarf I saw. Sad. Always make sure that the right stuff is in your bag or you're taking the loss. Stores like these have a policy that makes them the winner every time. read more
