Ok, finally hit this lobster joint which was on my bucket list for some time now last week on a 9/7/22 Thursday around 3:pm or so. Parking could be a lil tuff at times but we were lucky as we pulled up a car pulled out so that was easy ... Loved the inside dining room & bar area very comfortable not fancy nice a simple; the place was still quite only three tables or so ... The server / bartender was very polite and gave us her recommendations; we opted for 2 - Connecticut Lobsters rolls @ $ 32 bucks each for a total of $ 64 bucks plus we took a Piña colada frozen drink also to go.. total $ 78.50 plus a $ 6 tip ya know lobster ya gotta pay !! Our order was ready to go in less then 10 minutes or so; we then ran down to our favorite BBQ Joint Home Town to get our BBQ Meat on, a lil Surf & Turf !! The lobster Roll; 1 roll had very nice size chunks & claw meat loaded real nice; Roll 2 was a bit of a disappointment no large chunks of lobster meat all tiny pieces. Also in my opinion not enough butter on both rolls also we would have like our roll / bun toasted a lil more ... Very fresh it was good at best; We frequently patronize Luke's lobster roll in Manhattan and in my opinion and my wife's Lukes blows them away...... Would I come back, no I don't think so; their lobsters rolls are supposed to be the star of their show and they didn't deliver .... Loaded with potatoes and tons of clams, I even enjoyed the celery (and I hate celery) Seafood Bucatini (5 out of 5) Each shellfish was cooked to perfection. Bucatini Pasta Clams, Mussels, Jumbo Shrimp, (I added 2oz of Lobster) sautéed in garlic butter sauce Key Lime Pie (0 out of 5) This is where the ball was dropped, too sweet from the loaded whipped cream on top, then you get a moth full of graham cracker with barely any filling, no tang from the key lime. Was excited to stop by for lunch at this place. Did my research on Yelp... haha and checked out the menus photos before arriving. The menu and prices changed quite a bit. The last time I ate here was over 5 years ago. I had a much better experience back then. My date and I ordered calamari, lobster Mac, and fish and chips. No complaints about the alcoholic drinks, they were fine. The calamari was disappointing for a seafood restaurant. A bit tougher than squid should ever be. I did appreciate the tentacles, because not all restaurants include those. I don't know if it's a Covid issue, but I was let down. And I eat fried calamari from A LOT of places. This isn't it. The lobster Mac was good, didn't tickle my tastebuds, but it did it's job. I'm greedy, so I was tempted to get the large portion when I ordered, but I'm glad I didn't. The breading on the fish was too doughy. The size was more for children than adults. Pretty unacceptable for a place like this. My advice is to stick to the lobster rolls. I wish I had. Maybe it's a Covid issue and it was an off week for them. I don't plan to return to find out. read more

Love seafood and looking for a place to eat? I came here last night for restaurant week. It's so worth it for $38 three course meal for dinner. I got the downeast clam chowder as my first course. It has a nice kick to it, not too spicy if you can't handle spicy thingys. It is my first time having clam chowder with a tomato soup base. I got the portlander as my entree and it was soooooo good better than I expected. The shrimp doesn't have the head attached so it's easier to peel off. Dessert mini s'more. I don't think I've ever met a restaurant that specializes in seafood and lobster that I didn't like and the same pretty much holds true here. Honestly, it's quite hard to get lobster wrong, but if you do, then shame on you. With Red Hook Lobster Pound, it's not that they got it wrong, but it's more that everything tasted average. Average lobster is still better than no lobster, but we felt the lobster was ordinary and didn't wow us with the flavors. First, we made a reservation for an early Saturday afternoon for the outdoor patio, which I might say was quite spacious. There are booths in the patio and just about all of them seemed like they were for reservations only. If you want to dine indoors, there was also plenty of space in there as well. Service throughout our meal was solid. No complaints. Maybe they could have come by to refill our waters more frequently on a hot, summer day, but our food arrived quickly after ordering and our waiter was cordial. As for the menu, where do I start? It's quite diverse with seafood starters, lobster rolls, boils & dinners, main entrees and sides. If you're dining at Red Hook Lobster Pound, where everything is pretty pricey, you should be here for one thing - LOBSTER! And that's what we proceeded to get. We started our meal off with a New England clam chowder in a bowl and a small lobster mac and cheese. The clam chowder was solid. Can't say it was anything shockingly amazing though, but it was a decent chowder. As for the lobster mac and cheese? Well, really good. Once again, hard to really screw up mac and cheese, but when you add lobster, it's heaven. Fair to say they had an ample amount of lobster mixed in too, so we were very happy about that. For our mains, my wife ordered the Connecticut lobster roll (lobster poached in butter and lemon served warm and tossed with paprika and scallions), while I went all out and dug into the lobster dinner (Swimming-In-The-Tank-Fresh Maine lobster (1.5lbs) served with corn & potatoes). The lobster roll was OK. Lobster is lobster and there was plenty of meat in there. It was good, but she didn't feel enthusiastic about the flavors coming out of the roll. As for my lobster dinner, it was EXTREMELY filling. I had no idea what I was in for considering we had already ordered 2 starters. The lobster was a decent size and had plenty of delicious meat. The corn was a whole corn cut in half and there were 3 whole potatoes on the side. I was completely stuffed from it. My opinion, not spectacular, but good, just like how my wife felt about her lobster roll. It felt like something was missing from the lobsters. They were boiled, but it tasted like they had no flavor (thank goodness butter exist). Mostly everything we ordered was good. Once again, I love lobster and every chance I get to go to a lobster restaurant I do enjoy it, however it just felt like something was lacking from the food here. We came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. I love seafood, and don't eat lobster often. We had the crab dip served with chips. It was really good but feel like the portion could have been bigger. 1/2 dozen east coast oysters were to die for. So fresh. Next time I'll try the clams. I had the classic lobster roll which is served chilled. My partner had the Connecticut lobster roll which wa served warm. I was glad I got the classic for the traditional mayo style lobster roll. The portion of the roll was a good size. We got the cole slaw and I wish we had gotten a different side - it was just ok. All in all, the seafood was delicious which is what we came for. Honestly, their lobster meat fanfare has sunk so low for me on a recent Sunday visit- I'm actually seeing these guys in a whole different light. We're no strangers to Red Hook Lobster Pound- that's why we've tried to hold on to the good ol' days when these folks carried quality lobster for their Connecticut-style lobster rolls and I got hooked...literally. But not no more. I've been seeing the difference even starting a few years ago, but held on some more in hopes they prove themselves right. Not even. We had a Fish & Chips on our Sunday visit that was divine. Batter was light but crunchy- you feel me? But our lobster in our rolls tasted as if the meat was fabricated in a lab. Texture was mealy in some parts and tender in others. What's more, hubs skipped the bread and had the meat on its own. That first bite tasted off- lobster was dry as a board and it's a 'Connecticut lobster roll' for a reason because it's supposed to call for warm butter mixed in with lobster meat- and not just on the bread. Plus it also tasted as if a bunch of crap was put together to create- Tadaaaa....a lobster. No thanks. Service was super nice. But it's unfortunate- because this used to be a thriving lobster spot for us. Went here to celebrate a good end of month and treat myself while waiting for my car service appt to be finished. I got the Connecticut roll with salad. They gave you a lot of salad and a small lobster roll that was filled up very nicely and tasted just like a little piece of buttery heaven and I used very little butter on top. Upon entry we had to greet him and say we want a table for two. Then he just pointed to our table and said menu is on the barcode and walked away that's literally the only words we got from him. Then when our food came out (1 Connecticut style lobster rolls w/ fries & 1 fried lobsterroll w/potato salad) I don't think they timed it correctly maybe they made the Connecticut Then waited for the fried one to be made as the French fries were cold and the lobster roll was cold. Let's talk about LOBSTER. This place makes me want to yell "f*ck yes!" Like a true New Yorker. We are outside and enjoyed the weather. What was better than the perfect weather? The hot crab dip with house made chips, the absolutely perfect lobster roll (I prefer Connecticut style!) served with the crispiest twice-fried French fried (IYKYK), and a cup of the New England style clam chowder. Having eaten too much at Industry City, we walked here with the intention of just having a look. We looked at the menu and, despite a resisting stomach, decided to stretch it just a little more. The service was attentive and very friendly - but full disclosure, there were only 3 or 4 tables worth of people so if the service was not those things, i might start to be suspicious lol. All the seafood tasted fresh, I really liked the lobster roll. It came with a good amount of lobster and it came out super buttery and soft. Wow! The quality of lobster is fantastic, probably the best in NYC! They pick up fresh lobster at least once a week from Maine and it shows. Why should you come here? First, their lobster rolls are fresh and delicious, and not too salty or creamy. The chowder and other dishes are also delicious and well balanced. Second, the wait staff is very friendly and attentive, we felt like friends coming over to a neighbor's house to eat. We did a special date night this past Saturday and made it a little trip from Uptown Manhattan by taking the ferry from Pier 11, turned out to be fun! Not to mention it's always a nice excuse to enjoy our world famous skyline. I've bookmarked this place for awhile now and was excited to finally try it. Couldn't get reservations via Resy anymore so tried the walk-in route and was given a great table by the patio. First sign that things are gonna be good when you see a really diverse staff welcoming you nicely. Covid-19 procedures in place are taking your temperatures before being seated and excellent social distancing among tables. As for the food, my goodness, we wanted to try it all! We do IF so this was our only meal for the day and we decided to indulge. We got a bottle of Prosecco, which was perfectly chilled and was also put in a wine bottle chiller, really appreciated that. We ordered the Hot Crab Dip with potato chips, this was really good! The Calamari was also good with a mayo dip and another spicy chili dip, just wish it had more crisp in it. The Connecticut Lobster Rolls were amazing and was truly what we were craving for. Delicious, perfectly seasoned, and more importantly, generous with lobster meat, which we felt was a good value at $26 each. The fries that came with it were also perfect! We also ordered a lobster dinner to share which was at $31 each. This was expectedly good for a lobster, but honestly thought we found better value getting the lobster roll. Overall, we loved almost everything, the staff and service was also great! Will be happy to go back anytime soon. My husband and I were laughing that we actually ended up spending more here than at Peter Luger, but hey, as long as we get incredible value for what we pay for, right? Highly recommend! The lobster pound is a beloved staple of Van Brunt street in red hook and it's easy to see why. Its decor and energy easily matches the port side energy of this former dockyard. Inside they have two gender neutral bathrooms but if they are busy be prepared to wait a bit to use them. When we arrived we were immediately seated outside (per our request) despite it being peak lunch service on a holiday weekend in summer and we did not have a reservation. They beautifully decorated both the inside and outside with fresh florals and nautical decor. My partner and I both ordered a round of beers, a lobster roll each and I had a bowl of their lobster bisque soup. Everything was delicious, but there was some room for improvement. Portions were as expected and the food was fresh. The lobster rolls were stacked high with lobster and we both liked that they offered a variety of preparation options for the rolls. My partner ordered the BLT roll with 6oz lobster and I ordered the Connecticut roll with 4oz lobster. The portion size difference between the two is pretty substantial but then again so was the pricing. My only critique of the rolls was that the Connecticut roll was supposed to be served warm and poached in butter. It arrived barely warm and there was no melted butter on the side or no visible drizzle ontop. I would've liked to have had that. The lobster bisque was also a let down in my opinion. I am a HUGE lobster bisque fan and consider it a real treat when I get to order it. When paying nearly $9 for a bowl of soup, I would expect to get a few small chunks of lobster throughout, or as decoration on top at minimum. Especially considering that this is a lobster-driven establishment. I also was not offered any fresh pepper for garnish or even given a pepper packet. I enjoy my bisque with some fresh pepper so that was also disappointing. It also tasted slightly off, overall certainly not a top tier bisque. I expected more here. If you come here, expect to spend around $50 per person- this is not for a bargain date! It is a pricey establishment and they are certainly not giving anything away. If you're looking for a deal, I would advise visiting during their weekly happy hours for $1 oysters and some drink specials. Overall we really enjoyed our meal and would highly recommend this establishment for the quintessential summer lunch or dinner. read more
