Came by on a late Saturday afternoon. The place was already somewhat busy. Got a lobster roll, Maine style, with a side of fries for take out. It took a while for it to come out. The lobster didn't taste as fresh as it could be. The roll itself was quite good, A nice toast on it while still being fluffy. The fries were nicely seasoned as well. It's pretty expensive for even the smaller lobster roll option. I stopped by yesterday for dinner and the place was very busy. I had reservations, however the two young ladies who are servers, I'm Not sure if they were overwhelmed but would pick and choose who they would be nice to and who they would be short with. one server had a red sweater I think she's blonde or baby a lil dark brown hair the other had a pink sweater and black hair. A couple came in asked to be seated the blonde young lady with the red sweater said they were fully booked And nothing was available. As I am waited to be seated I see two seats at the bar and I hear the colored couple ask is there a waiting period and was told no a few times, After the couple asked again what is the waiting period the waitress then mentions the bar seats. They get seated. I am still waiting for my seat. I am finally seated by the door and while sitting and waiting I observed the behavior of these two young ladies and how they interacted with people of color. They picked and chose who to interact with nicely and who not to. The people of color who had no reservations were turned away but the white people or not do dark people were accommodated. This was disturbing to watch but I witnessed it my self. I couldn't even eat my food and I lost my appetite. On a day like yesterday a day of love it is sad to see that this kind of behavior still goes on especially in this neighborhood. you need to do better. read more

Do you like seafood? Me too. And to be clear, I'm not talking about the food I see when my four year old chews things up and shows it to me (I'm a little annoyed that joke is still a thing). I'm talking about all the wonderful things that get pulled out of the ocean, that we get to eat if we're lucky. And in Brooklyn, we are lucky, because Red Hook Lobster Pound has it all. Excellent lobster rolls, creamy clam chowder, perfectly fried shrimp and clam strips, fresh shrimp or lobster over a salad if that's your thing, and the beer to wash it all down. They also excel with their sides (brussels sprouts, fries, etc. are all delicious), and the takeout is lightning fast if you don't feel like hanging out there. Best of all, right now it's Crab Week, and you can go in and get a nice pound of crab legs with potatoes and corn (although the potatoes and corn desperately need seasoning). You just have to decide how fancy you are, king, snow, or dungeness. Personally, I went with two friends and got one of each, because depending on the day, I can be fancy, kind of fancy, and a lowbrow piece of trash. After a horrible day of traveling and all the chaos that goes along with that, we finally made our way to this wonderful restaurant. We were 15 minutes late from our reservation time but they welcomed us warmly. It was a perfect night for dining outside and even though our reservation had requested indoor dining, they allowed us to switch to an outdoor table. I had the lobster dinner and my son had the snow crab dinner. We also had the garlic biscuits. When the biscuits came out, they didn't look like anything special but oh my God when we bit into them, our eyes lit up! Literally the best I've ever had! We were both very happy with our entrées, the service was wonderful in the staff inside and out were so friendly, and even though they were getting ready to close by the time we left, we never felt rushed. It just happened to be lobster week which was a bonus but just generally what a great place to dine. The menu has many options and caters to diverse taste buds. I ended up ordering the lobster dinner, the quality of lobster was super fresh. It had so much flavor and was super juicy, the tail was perfectly cooked as well. The true test of fresh lobster is when you eat the spiny legs with your teeth as if your biting on a icee in a railroad track pattern to squeeze all the goods out. It was sweet and abundant. The lobster roll is my favorite I've had in New York and their frosé is just the right amount of sweet, I've yet to find one as good. The cinnamon roll dessert is also phenomenal. Upon arriving, a server was throwing giant trash bags out and then proceeded to seat us. I'm mentioning this because he didn't washed his hands and he went to grab our napkins and utensils and placed them on our table! I wouldn't have minded if he simply brought us to our table without touching anything. He was a very nice man though; just the hygiene that bothered me. Our server was nice; he checked up on us a few times and made sure we got what we ordered. To start, we got some raw oysters and clams. They were fresh and decently sized. We then ordered the lobster dinner and a BLT lobster roll. For $25, it was an ok sized lobster. There were a few pieces of corn and potatoes that were also steamed, but not really flavored. The only flavor you would get is if you dip it in butter. The lobster roll was good but the bread it came with wasn't so good. It wasn't buttered or toasted, so that was disappointing. The fries are classic fries with enough salt, but personally I preferred if it were crispier. I really hoped that this would've been a 5/5 meal, but it was just okay. read more

Came here recently for their lobster and I'm hooked. Lol. A group of us came here and everything was handled nicely. They had our table ready and the vibe was warm and friendly. We all ordered their lobster with corn and potatoes and I have to say once I took a bite of their lobster, they won me over. My 1.5 lbs lobster was sweet, meaty and had a nice taste of the sea. With the drawn butter, it added the perfect fatness. I also like that they didn't carve out my tomalley, which for me is the best part of the lobster. If I can eat a whole bowl of it over rice or pasta, I totally would. I also love the location even though I'm aware getting here is not that convivence. I went for their Lobster Week special which is running until September 25th. Lobster boils with corn and potatoes are $25 this week and they have rose for $5. They were super busy so I recommend making a reservation in advance for a table. The staff seemed a bit spread thin so their service wasn't the best but the waitress was friendly and as attentive as she could be. We were very understanding and again, this ain't a 5 star Michelin experience. You get bibs, napkins, wipes and you're eating seafood withcha hands. Dress comfy, go with friends and dig in. It's great for large or small groups and you can tell it's a neighborhood favorite. This seafood boil is not the Cajun style that most folks are used to. It initially looked very plain to me but it wasn't bland. I could tell the lobster was steamed/boiled in an old bay bath so there was a mild flavor though I do prefer seafood boils with the butter, garlicky, Cajun seasoning. Attention lobster lovers--Red Hook Lobster Pound serves an impressive 1.5 lbs lobster dinner. And I'm here to vouch that it was a delicious one. Sure, I've had lobster dinners elsewhere, but tossing the coin between a lobster roll and the lobster boil dinner here was a no brainer. For one thing, I'm quite picky about my lobster rolls. The ones at RHLP from observing other tables seemed to be a bit underwhelming. I have fond memories of a gigantic lobster roll I had in the North Fork part of Long Island a few years ago and nothing tops that to this day. The lobster dinner here, like most, included said lobster (did I mention 1.5 lbs?), several boiled red skinned potatoes, and an ear of corn cut in half. The butter sauce was the simple accompaniment to it all. On the day I visited, it was quite busy already---not even 5 PM yet. Indoors was quaint but outdoors lent the "on vacation" kind of feel. Our server was attentive but obviously, quite busy. There were starters, frozen drinks, mussel dinners, a variety of lobster rolls, seafood boils and the main attraction--the lobster dinner. There was much to browse/select from the menu. I noticed many tables ordered the frozen cocktail drinks which doesn't really appeal to me given the sweetness factor. I kept everything simple--ordered the lobster dinner with an unsweetened iced tea. That's it. When the dinner arrived, all 3 items: lobster, potatoes and corn were arranged attractively; necessary tools such as nutcracker and pick were included. And plenty of wet naps/napkins. The lobster was not pre-cracked which meant I had a hard time with one claw and tail. But once I got the meat out---oh my---it was delicious. The lobster, from Maine, was flavorful and meaty, while the butter sauce was sinfully good. It was a delicious llobster dinner ($47) and I felt as though I engaged in a science project since it took me a long time to go through the lobster. I gave 100% attention to it! I tasted two forks of the lemon/blueberry custard dessert which was a delicious finish. I was too full to eat an entire dessert on my own. I'm glad I tried Red Hook Lobster Pound since it was on my must try list for a while. I don't get the opportunity to hang out in Red Hook much at all, but RHLP is worth taking a trip. I have been faithfully coming here since around 2011, when it was a more modest setup with picnic style tables and you ordered at the counter. I love lobster, and I love the lobster here, and it's always been delicious, sweet, and fresh. It has been a tradition for years for my mother and I to celebrate our birthdays (only four days apart!) here. Then, they launched Lobster Week, and my trips out to Red Hook became even more frequent. The current layout of the restaurant is nice; nautical themed enough but not over the top. There's plenty of seating, but there are nights where it will be packed and you and your neighbors are at risk of flying lobster particles hitting one another. But the atmosphere is always lovely and lively. They have a great selection at the bar, and even though I usually default to a lobster dinner (how can you pass that up??), I will make it my mission to try everything on their menu. I definitely recommend the hot crab dip, their fries are awesome, the lobster bisque is divine, and of course, please be sure to get the lobster dinner and maybe add on a seafood boil while you're at it! Generally, pricing is as you'd expect for lobster in the city, but you really cannot beat their Lobster Week deals. I usually come several days (often consecutively) for Lobster Week, and this year, I managed seven visits in the month of September. The staff is so friendly and cool, and they are attentive and kind. I really love going here, and I'm always raving about the place to anyone who doesn't suffer a shellfish allergy (my condolences). I take al my friends, I've dined alone here on several occasions--no matter what, it is truly always a great time. I've been wanting to come here for a while but keep forgetting about it because it's out of the way. But, I finally remembered! We got immediately seated after arriving. The restaurant is large, with an elaborate bar being the focal point. Some of the walls have wallpaper with fishing anchors and lobsters while other walls are made of wooden panels and the wall behind the bar is decorated with all kinds of bottles. We ordered the Maine Event which was shareable for two and has 1 starter, 2 lobster rolls and 1 dessert. For the starter, we ordered Mussels and Ciabatta with fennel and garlic. This was delicious and I loved the bread. It was soft and crispy at the same time. For our lobster rolls, we ordered the Connecticut and California styles. The Connecticut was poached in butter and served warm, whereas the California is a lobster salad with cucumbers and avocado. They were both delicious and fresh, but hubs and I preferred the Connecticut and daughter preferred the California. To each their own. For dessert, I got the whoopie pie and thought it was ok. Hubs liked it a lot, though. Service was friendly and quick. I was surprised that our meals came out quick. When we got there, the bartender was waiting on tables , so he was doing 2 jobs. We both had lobster roles - the 6oz classic and the 6oz Connecticut. We opted to get two different sides so we could share: Cole slaw and corn on the cob. The one role was made gluten free by substituting a lettuce wrap. The food is delicious and we'd happily order more - although the prices are truly crazy. 6oz of lobster on lettuce was $42 (classic was the same)!
