The library is my best friend! They offer a variety of special events, from monthly book clubs, monthly mini-concerts that are streamed online, and various activities for the kids (From game nights to shared appreciation for the TV show Glee.) For specifics, regularly check their website: http://www.rdpl.org (Oh! And don't forget Café Noir! The perfect place to pick up a latte & snack to enjoy, while reading a book or magazine. Their iced lattes are a bit peculiar in taste and have the consistency of a grainy slushy. Not my fave.) Speaking of the library's website, you can search the catalogue and place holds on items from the comfort of your own home. When available, the library will call or email to tell you your item(s) is ready for pick up at the front desk. This whole process saves you time and effort. The DVD collection is growing every day with the latest releases, as is their audio book collection. I ditched my mail order DVD service, when I learned I could get recent releases from the library at no cost to me. If they don't have a specific book you're looking for, the library offers an inter-library loan service. Give them as much info as you can, and they will search the province for an available copy. The staff members are always friendly and helpful. I understand that the newly remodeled Dawe branch is beautiful, if the downtown branch is inconvenient in location. They will gladly transfer books from one library to the other, for you. Oh! A library card is $10/year, which is more than worth it. Enjoy your next visit! read more

History

Established in 1914.

On September 1, 1914, Red Deer Public Library was created. The Library had a number of homes in the first half of the century, including its first home in the Board of Trade/Firehall Building, in City Hall next to the Jail Cell, and on the North Side of Ross Street, where the Parsons Clinic is today. A new Library became an election issue in the mid-1960s, and after some controversy and a successful plebicite, a new one-story library was built to celebrate Canada's Centennial in 1967. This new facility was made possible thanks to generosity & vision of long-time trustee Charlie Snell and his wife, Librarian Mabel Snell. A second story was added to the building in 1979, and in 1993, planning began for a major expansion and renovation of the Downtown Branch, including the addition of a brand new Children's Library. Today, the Downtown Branch is one of the finest public library facilities in Canada. With special spaces for Kids, Teens, and Adults, there's something here for everyone!

Absolutely awful. They were absolutely helpful and so encouraging in helping me get a government…read moreloan. Once the school had my money the student service died. I fought my way through impossible circumstances to uphold my grades and finish on time. When it came time for practicum to start the coordinator who was in charge went radio silence and ignored me up until halfway through the first week. She led me on to believe I would be starting the next week, than the next week and eventually the coordinators manager contacted me to let me know that the PC was being let go from the college and that there were fifty other students in the same boat. I am now four months passed when I should have started. I have been lied to and overlooked and I really advise anyone thinking of using CDI College to google reviews. I borrowed 40k last year to attend what I thought was a reputable college and now I sit here a single father on the bring of losing everything. The college has offered me no financial help and blatantly ignores my pleas for help. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!!!! Do your research and avoid this nightmare!!

It was nice and clean, and the bathroom reminded me of high school with the metal dividers lol... but it had enough stalls vs how big the building is so at least you didn't have to wait in line to use the bathroom. The private parking lot is a nice size as well vs how big the building is. Overall it's a nice building and well maintained.

This may in fact be my favourite town in all of Alberta. In the winter its quiet and you can go…read moreskating on the lake. In the summer it's pretty darn busy as every one wants to get into Moo's for ice cream or find a spot on the beach. The movie theatre is never busy and the cost to see a movie is drastically cheaper than in the big city. There is only 3 screens so check before you go. One of the best things about this little town is if you need to walk across it, you can do so, it's great. Cobbs is a hidden gem, I've found a lot of great pieces of clothing from this store. If you are thinking of driving by Sylvan, don't... stop in and check it out. You won't be disappointed.
