They are still finishing up landscaping and doing other things on the grounds. The centerpiece is a large building reminiscent of a council house. There are several stories, above and below ground, so there's plenty to see. Allow about an hour for the interpretive center, and another hour or two to walk the prairies and down to the river if you want. If you don't go in the building, there are a few plaques outside that give a quick history and orientation. Plus, there are a few on the way to the river. Inside, there are many displays about native history, settlement, conflicts and treaties, the natural world, and much more. There's a re-created stream with native fish. There are many kid friendly displays, but also plenty of in-depth information for adults. There's a gift shop downstairs, of course. Super friendly and helpful staff. Upstairs, there is more history. In the basement, there are displays about current Shawnee tribal members, and reproductions of many old maps. Plus a meeting room. There's a video room, a reproduction wigwam, and so much more. Learned about Old Town, which was on this site, plus Tecumseh and other famous natives. Highly recommended, and I will be bringing Kid K here. There was a school group there while I visited, and it seemed like a good field trip for them. Closed Monday and Tuesday, and opens at 10 AM, so check hours. Smallish parking lot. They are currently building a bridge over the road, to have more access to town.

The parking lot is small, and you can park in the grass on the opposite side, FYI. This is one of the most beautiful buildings for a state park I've ever seen! There are 3 levels, an elevator and multiple stairways. On the second level there are doors to an outdoor balcony with a view over the field towards the river. There are lots of displays about early native life. There's a large fish tank inside. They raise native species and reintroduce them into local waterways. The Little Miami River is an easy hike out back. This visit was in summer and peak wildflowers in bloom. I plan to revisit in each season.

The main building includes an "Adamesque barrel-vaulted concourse" and "Rookwood Architectural Faience entry arch. I saw the Rookwood at the entry and I was determined to see this breathtaking building. A long and elaborate arcade runs through from main entrance through the building, which nused to be lined by shops. The building included marble floors, Bottincino marble wainscot, metal trimmings, and "costly brightly decorated ceilings, with fanciful medallions showing little children riding on the backs of various animals. The terminal was used for bus service after streetcar service ceased in the 1950s. Buses arriving from northern Kentucky crossed the Roebling Suspension Bridge and took ramps from the bridge into the terminal. The ramps were removed and the bus service ceased using the terminal in 1998. The Cincinnati Stock Exchange closed its physical trading floor in 1976 after becoming an all electronic stock trading exchange but remained in the building until relocating from Cincinnati to Chicago in 1995 and became the National Stock Exchange.. But someone with vision renovated this treasure and it's being full utilized one again - mostly for Great American Insurance Co. At least I think they use most of it. But do what I did and just walk in like you own the place and marvel in times gone by. You will be glad you did.

The inside was very historic looking even with the additions. The bar staff was very friendly and accommodating. There was an Irish band that performed at the start of the evening. The place got crowded fast. Everyone was very friendly. Even saw people with children there. As the evening got later, there was a gentleman playing all types of music which was cool. I didn't get to go to the upper floor to check out that area but I plan to go back. The bathroom was located in the basement which was very cold. That was the only drawback. I really enjoyed the experience overall. Staff was friendly, convenient parking, nice music, and great atmosphere.

My first visit to the center was last year for a birthday party inthe auditorium with Irish food, music and of course Guinness. I recently attended the ArtsWave sampler day here in February & returned to celebrate St. Patrick's day. Their Guinness is as close as you can get to Guinness in Ireland, we asked about it & they told us they go through so much of it their kegs are fresher than other local pubs. Stop on by and explore your Irish heritage year round the Irish Heritage Center of Greater Cincinnati!
