Edited for transparency on timeline. (Happened about 6 years ago but I believe there is no "expiration date" on leaving feedback. My experience with Dr. Middleton was very disappointing. She was aggressive in her treatment approach and recommended multiple fillings on teeth that, in hindsight, most likely could have been monitored instead of drilled. Because I was sedated, she was able to do a lot of work at once, and I believe she took advantage of the fact that I wasn't fully aware of what was happening. After the procedure, I was in immense pain, which I now realize was likely due to how aggressively she worked on my teeth. When I came back for a follow-up appointment because of the pain, she seemed impatient and dismissive instead of sympathetic. During that visit, she and her front desk staff were gossiping about her upcoming date, and she kept glancing at her watch while wearing 6-inch Louis Vuitton heels, clearly eager to leave rather than focus on my concerns. This happened about 6 years ago, but I still remember how painful and upsetting the experience was. Since then, I've become close with several dentists who have reviewed my X-rays, and each of them expressed their apologies and surprise that Dr. Middleton was so aggressive in her treatment. I saw this dentist for a routine exam awhile back and was told I had multiple cavities. She performed fillings on about half of them, and I deferred the rest to the following year to allow my dental insurance to reset. In the meantime, I sought two independent second opinions from other dentists, both of whom reviewed my original X-rays and advised that I did not have cavities requiring intervention, including the teeth I already had filled. While I understand there can be some subjectivity in diagnosing early cavities, I was frustrated to learn that several treatments may have been unnecessary. More concerning is that I'm now experiencing issues with the teeth that were filled, which were previously asymptomatic. I would advise others to consider seeking a second opinion before proceeding with treatment, especially when multiple restorations are recommended on otherwise asymptomatic teeth Regarding the below response, my records could not be found because my yelp username is not my full legal name. Such an awful place! I wrote them a review on Google and they threatened me to have it take down! What a joke this place is. Reposting my original review below if anyone wants to read :) Surprised this dentist is in La Jolla. They injected a shot in me in the wrong area causing me unbearable pain for MONTHS. When I told the doctor she said it was a "blind injection" and she can't tell what she hits sometimes.. I told my new dentist that and he said he's never heard of such a thing, but knows the nerve she hit is serious. She also made my mom and I get unnecessary crowns and messed up my dad's fillings. They are also aggressive with things. I remember when I was getting one of my crowns put on she was annoyed I wanted to wait a few minutes for the anesthetic to kick in and maybe gave me 2 mins. Worst dentist ever. Truly the most horrific dental experience I have had in all my 60 years. Her office staff is very unprofessional, in her waiting area she actually has a bed frame, headboard and footboard, pushed together with a worn out cushion on it. A bed frame. I have never experienced such pain with a dentist before. She kept injecting me with novocaine, probably a dozen jabs, and then she would return to drilling my deep cavity....asking occasionally, "does that hurt? how about that?" She would give me another injection and keep on going. I would never take a child here. And I would never return. I ended up going to another dentist who was able to save my tooth, with a lot less pain. Avoid. I don't think she has any idea what she is doing. I booked an appointment a month out. Arrive to my appointment and sat in the chair for them to say "we will do your X-rays now then the Dr. will do your exam" I asked "Will my cleaning be done after that" I booked my appointment for a teeth cleaning as a new patient. They then told me I wasn't booked for a cleaning... I said "Then I will come back another time to do everything together because I really need a cleaning" Then was told by front desk "Because of Covid we are booked out until March and so is everyone else" and as she walked out mumbled "good luck" I found this to be very unprofessional and unkind. I understand this is a busy time in a busy industry. But I felt very disrespected and wasted my time coming to the office for a visit they messed up on scheduling. Never written a review before but this was my worst dental experience by miles never had a problem with dentists first of the crowns I got put in were terribly sized and the dentist is asking me do they fit....that's the reason for the mold. I've got crowns before and NEVER to get them resized like this she didn't apple the numbing gel well either. On top of that she recommended a crown for a tooth that wasn't hurting and guess what...it hurt after so I ask if I get a root canal will the filling be free since I already paid for an unnecessary crown and they hung up on me 0/10 never going back. It felt like she just got the job taking 2 hours to put a fckin crown in every doctor I been to we get a mold perfect size come back in no gel needed pop of filler pop on crown but no and on top of that it still messed up my bite. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Middleton for over a year now -- everyone is very friendly, they go out of their way to try and accommodate your scheduling needs, and always provide all of your available care options. If I had a sixth star, Rea Middleton Dentistry would get it. Calling on a Monday morning, I was offered a same-day appointment! Once in the office, was warmly greeted and escorted immediately to the exam room (I was 15 minutes and I didn't even have to wait for my actual appointment time). EVERYONE in the office was fantastic and everything was up front and transparent; immediate diagnosis, treatment plan, insurance co-pay, absolutely everything and all communicated in a professional and friendly atmosphere. At no time was I made to feel uncomfortable or pressured into making any decision. I was the only patient being seen at the time, which is very important to me. This is a small operation with Dr. Middleton and her 3 support staff, located in a very quiet and tranquil part of town. The office spaces are clean, accommodating, and free parking never a problem. I know that it sounds odd, but I felt as though I was "home". Paperwork - what paperwork???? As I was on the phone with Jaime making my first appointment, I received both a text message to my cell phone and an e-mail with additional instructions on how to submit all of the information that the dentist needs, prior to my first visit. As in the past with other healthcare professionals, I'd arrive 15 minutes early, be handed a clipboard with 3-4 pieces of paper to scribble on and then hand it back to the receptionist, prior to the first appointment. Dr. Middleton's process is all online. It's great, I was easily able to accurately answer all of the medical/dental/general health and insurance questions, securely online in about 5 minutes (click, click, click, sign, done - finito). If you're looking for a large, multi-provider dental facility, in a big building and want to be treated as just-another-patient by staff who are don't care, keep looking - Dr. Middleton is not your dentist. I have to say when I found out my old dentist sold her practice and moved away I was pretty nervous. I am not a big fan of dentists or any doctor who weilds a sharp pointy thing, also known as a needle. I lost my job and therefore lost my insurance and of course my veneer I recieved 2 years ago decided to crack. Lovely. I called Rea Middleton's office and spoke to the staff and they were very pleasant on the phone and made me feel at ease. I came in, and described to Dr. Middleton what happened and how. She looked at my teeth and not only did she not charge me to replace my veneer as we found out it was deffective she was REALLY nice about it too and showed genuine concern about my little dental problem. She even gave me the new patient price on getting my annual exam and cleaning because of my lack of insurance. (Wow!) Last week as I was stuffing my face at Carnitas Snack Shack (so worth it!) my other veneer popped out. Dr. Middleton was on vacation, but they squeezed me as soon as she got back and she re-cemented my veneer back in place and worked with me on pricing. This was by far the BEST dental experience I've ever had. It's even better then when I was 10 years old and my dentist would let me pick a small toy from the bucket. I moved awhile back and had not seen a dentist in a few years. I probably would have gone longer if I didn't have pain in my tooth that was getting worse. Dr. Middleton to the rescue. I googled a dentist in my area and came across her website. It was easy to request an appointment online and someone called me back the same day. I was worried about parking in LJ, but they have their own lot. The front office girl was nice and gave me a few things to fill out. I finished with my paperwork and was promptly taken back to a room, no time to even read a mag. The office is super nice, new looking. and clean. And it smells amazing in there too. I first saw the hygienist to get x-rays and a cleaning. That was easy and didn't take long at all. She was really gentle. Then I met Dr. Middleton. She was super nice. She introduced herself and we talked for a few minutes. Then the news, I needed a filling. Not surprised! It was cool that Dr. Middleton took her time to talk to me and showed me what I needed. Okay, I'll start this off by saying anyone who knows me knows how much I despise going to the dentist. It took me a long time to find a dentist in California, let alone in San Diego. I moved to CA five years ago and this was my first dentist out here, and I'll tell you it was one of the best decisions I could have made. For starters, interacting with both Dr. Middleton and Jamie is so PERSONAL. You don't feel like just a number in their book, and because of my crazy schedule they really found a time to have my first consultation appointment that worked for me. I was really nervous for my first appointment (for good reason... keep reading) but they made me feel so welcome and comforted, and they could tell immediately that I was not someone comfortable with the dentist. I found out I had a crazy amount of cavities and needed deep cleaning of my gums, which was not a major shocker for me after avoiding the dentist for as long as I have. They made sure that they could fit all of my procedures in on the same day, found a day that I was comfortable with coming, and even waived a lot of the fees that I knew I might be struggling with. I even got emotional in the waiting room when thinking about all the stuff on my plate between paying for the services, finding a ride to get me there with the sedation, and dealing with the pain itself, and they could not have been more gracious, kind, and supportive. I don't really remember a lot of my procedure day, which was the point I guess, but I'm definitely planning on going to my 3 month follow up appointment (which is saying a lot... ).
