This is a monstrous company who help Aetna get out of paying your medical bills. If you don't comply, then Aetna will use your interaction with Rawlings to sue you for breach of contract to recoup the amount of your bill. They are the lowest form of pond scum. Talking with their rude and hostile staff is incredibly derogatory, and they insinuate all sorts of bad things that could happen to you if you don't comply with their invasive questioning and demands. This is a bottom feeder company that works with Aetna. BEWARE and know your rights BEFORE giving them ANY personal information! I didn't willingly provide any information while they investigated my life - but, you guessed it, Aetna just handed over ALL my private information to them! I have never enjoyed my dealings with this company. Never heard of them? Let me help ya out. According to their company write up on Manta.com (direct quote)- "The Rawlings Company reduces cost in the Healthcare Industry. The Rawlings Company is the national leader in sophisticated data mining and recovery services for the HealthCare insurance industry. " Sounds pretty innocent right, right? Sure. There are most likely many scenarios where these services come into play. I have had interactions with this firm MORE than two times. Each has been infuriating! Please allow me to share how this works- The Rawlings Company send innocuous, extremely plain, post letters. I discard these (the first rounds, I catch them now) as junk mail or look at and ignore as I did not know who the hell they are. (I don't answer bogus questionnaires in the mail and I'm sure you don't either.) My time is just as important as theirs, if their stuff does not even pass the legit mail perusal (as defined by my opinion)... The letters question insurance costs and want to know if someone else could possibly be responsible (an accident, work, injured on someones property). They do ALLOW you to check illness as other. They ask for explanation. I have never given that- why did I get ill? I sure wish I knew! They don't tell you what they are attempting to assist your insurance company from weaseling out of paying - a procedure or an appointment. They give you a date and reference number. Not helpful. Look it up sistah- spend some time figuring it out!! (I really don't care at this point, I'm just trying to see what they don't want to pay- however, if I had multiple insurances going it would be a nightmare) If you have missed the original notice(s) or do not comply soon enough- They follow up with tersely worded letters threatening costs etc. for not complying with their request. One thing worse than an idiot is a dangerous idiot. Far worse than that, a dangerous and resourceful idiot. So, for those of you who have never had the pleasure of dealing with these people, consider the following situation. 1. A druggie (with mugshots to prove it) slams into the back of your car on the interstate in December. This puts you in the hospital. 2. Her auto insurance, your auto insurance, and your own health insurance squabble over the bill, like so many buzzards over roadkill. You are still suffering from your accident, mind you. The bills finally get paid in April, the next year. 3. Rawlings, at the behest of your health insurance, comes after YOU to compensate them because they paid when they shouldn't have. Not only that, if they don't get paid, they cancel your health insurance funded by your employer and you're persona non grata, whether you're paying your premiums or not. 4. So after they twist your arm a little, you pay them off - but they make it more painful. Check or money order, only. Screw checks, because I want them paid - not for the money to fester in my account. Money orders (5 of them) it is, and certified to boot. 5. Now it's the end of May. You get a call and they tell you they've received one of the money orders, despite them being sent all in the same certified envelope. So, pay them with the money you no longer have, or they cancel your health insurance. Certified mail, or no, the money wasn't received - so they say. This is nothing short of extortion.
