They actually have Chicken and Prawn Pakora's, not just the normal onion as well. The mushroom chicken and the beef sultan have got to be on your list to try, because the beef just disintegrates in your mouth and the spices are so so dainty you just want to keep eating them even when you're really really full. For breads, the naan and the roti for the wholemeal eaters are a great partner to your curry. Wouldn't really recommend going to the toilets there, it's kind of outside in a shed.

Drive-thru Turkish - Yes Please!!!…read more Can you imagine... You are on your way home from work, running late - your thinking 'agg, what am I going to cook for dinner'? Then you think 'I'll just get takeaway' but you can't face the greasy, ignorant teenagers that are never happy to see you at Macca's or another family meal deal totally lacking in any nutritional value.. Well - guess what! Sultans Kitchen at Clayfield have amazing food that tastes good, is good for you (well better than Macca's anyways) and all available through a convenient drive-thru - Yay!!! The mixed grill is my pick of the menu. You get three different varieties of shish, creamy mashed potato, rice, turkish bread, dip and salad - Yummo! If you're dining in (which I highly recommend the decor is just beautiful) I recommend the Mushroom Sote. This vegetarian dish is absolutely delightful. A bowl full of tender mushrooms sauteed in a rich tomato and herb sauce and served with a side of rice - good for the soul.

Garbage. The ordering process was bungled and took 4 attempts of giving our name and number,…read morebecause 2 people were trying to answer the call. We ordered the couples pack, and asked for cheese and spinach naan. Despite the couples pack stating "naan of your choice"- we had to pay extra for cheese & spinach naan. Apparently "naan of your choice" means "naan of your choice from either plain or garlic". Whatever. We ordered medium chicken tikka masala, and mild lamb korma. When we got the food home, we found we didn't get the spinach & cheese naan we had paid extra for. The dishes had only about 8 chunks of meat in each- hardly any. The tikka masala was mild, not medium. The lamb korma was hard, chewy, and in a weird green sauce. Not at all like what we are used to. Flavors bland. Entrees burnt. Never again. At least it was cheap.

EKKA show holiday rolled around and a spontaneous trip up to Woody Point was decided upon. Fish and chips were on the menu and there were 2 in close proximity. We thought we were picking the one with a shorter line but it was deceiving. (Ok, ok, Dickens get to the food). We had calamari, some crumbed fish and chips, pretty standard but totally delicious. Paired with an old favourite, Passiona, and sitting by the water it was a pretty excellent way to get out of Brisbane for a few hours. I'd say definitely make a trip up here sometime, but maybe I want to keep it to myself? Fresh fish also available, and dine in as well.

The staff are really friendly and they always throw in freebies with our order - always! The Jaipuri Chicken is my favourite dish! Big succulent pieces of chicken breast smothered in a thick sweet and spicy mushroom and onion sauce. The chicken melts in your mouth and the sauce is the most wonderful flavour. The Malai Kofta is a very yummy vegetarian dish, spicy balls made from a combination of potato and paneer (Indian cheese) and coated in a mild, creamy curry sauce with cashew nuts and yoghurt. The kofta balls absorb all the flavour of the rich sauce - like nothing I have ever experienced in the culinary world. Do eat at Nameste - even if you have to make a special trip to the Northside. I promise you won't regret it. The food here is superb and the service is great, but the best thing about Nameste is... they deliver to my house!

It varies from Gen-Y flavoured disinterest to abrupt and borderline rude, as though placing an order for a meal is a major inconvenience. Maybe a little training is required here? You can safely add fifteen minutes to quoted pick up times as a general rule. Luckily the food is lovely!

The old Stafford City kebab joint (pretty sure they're now going by "Ispa Kebabs", although the…read moreproduct remains unchanged) conveniently located right outside the movies to catch the hungry swarms coming or going from the latest Fast & Furious flick. They've been there, same location, different names over the years, since at least 2001 when I first tried a kebab as an inquisitive 13 year old. Frozen in time, their display and menu has not changed. Most importantly, the kebab has remained a tasty one, varying only slightly in quality depending on the staff (predominately middle eastern) rolling your kebab. The range on the menu is typical kebab joint fare. Lamb & chicken kebabs are available with their beloved lettuce, tomato and onion (if you're a veteran of kebab joints, that's the order you'll hear the salads shilled in, too!) plus extras such as cheese, tabouli, olives, pineapple and mushrooms. Hot chips are also available, although not once have I ever seen the fryer cooking up a batch. It's all about the kebabs, here. Dolmades (Mediterranean rice wrapped in vine leaves) and even the option for a "kebab burger" is on offer, but as adventurous as I am with my food, I can't seem to go past my old faithful Jumbo chicken with cheese and BBQ sauce, hold the rabbit food. Occasionally, I've done a Lamb kebab with hot chilli sauce, garlic yogurt, cheese and olives which is a bonafide winner, but really, I don't come here for adventure, I stop by because I know exactly what I'm getting. A generously stuffed kebab that'll fill a hole for under 15 bucks. Nothing more, nothing less. 3 1/2 Stars.

This cafe, awkwardly positioned in a pocket of Pickering Road, might seem familiar. Their interior…read morehas been done before - mismatched plates and cups, famous people as table numbers, kitsch china figurines and oddly, many lifesize jars of Nutella. But give it a chance. What gives this spot a point of difference, in my opinion, is their choose-your-own-adventure style breakfast menu. They give you the base (eggs and toast - $8.90) and the rest is up to you. Pulled pork (china town style, hoisin meets char siu and dances with soy), vegetable fritter, Haloumi, mushroom, hollandaise? The list is seemingly endless. I arrived to try it all out at 11:30ish on a Friday. It's not overly busy but noisy. You've been warned. The concrete shell of this store means sound proofing isn't an option. Their specialty drink appears to be a cappucino (Genovese beans) with weird and wonderful flavours like nutella or such mixed through. I stick with a flat white that's easy to drink but lacking any oomph. I had read a review previous to going that said ask for a double-shot if you prefer a real coffee kick and I'm inclined to agree. As tempted as I was by the sides menu, I opted for a 6-in Steak & Philly Sub ($10). I've never had a philly steak before but when my plate is served I'm a little lost as what to do with the second slice of baguette. Served as an open sandwich, I'd happily pay a little less for not having the lonesome slice of bread or pay a little extra to have more topping to use on the other slice. I'd actually also love to know if I could have swapped the baguette out for it all served on a bed of spinach. I quite like what's going on at Hansell & Gretel. It's not new but it is a new take on breakfast for this particular area which (and they're directly across the road from iconic Grub Street) I think makes it an interesting game of play for locals! I liked that it wasn't stuffy or pretentious, just familiar food done reasonably well.

Hansell & Gretel is a fairly new spot in Gaythorne, open for breakfasts and lunches every day of…read morethe week. It's small, unpretentious but a bit quirky, and does good food and coffee with friendly service and reasonable prices. The menu selection has some interesting things on there (each has a fairytale-themed name - cute), with a mix of savoury and sweet options, but what is excellent is the long list of extras that means you can tailor your meal to suit. I like being able to add avocado and haloumi to everything! There is also a small, slightly more lunch-focused section of the menu which has things like a burger, philly cheese steak sub, and banh mi. I'm told the philly cheese steak sub is good, it definitely is big! I haven't tried any of the sweet menu options yet, but so far the savoury things I've tried have been yum. They have a decent looking selection of cakes/muffins/etc, many of which are gluten-free or dairy-free (or both). Hansell & Gretel is right next to train (Gaythorne station) and bus (390), but free street parking is also available down nearby side-streets. Seating is both inside and outside, I just wish the outside seats got sunshine in winter! It should be a cooler outdoor spot in summer though to make up for it. Latest update: something has changed, and it's more than the refreshed menu with higher prices (that now exceed the value for money tipping point in my opinion - I know the Woodchopper's Breakfast is huge but it's also $28 and for breakfast I just can't bring myself to pay that). I can't quite put my finger on it but H&G is definitely not as great as it used to be, unfortunately. The coffee is still good, they still play good music, and the sweet treats cabinet still rates highly, but my brunch devotion has waned in favour of other places in the area.
