It was super busy and full of mostly international students using email and the usual stuff. They didn't have the version of microsoft word I needed in order to do the tasks I had to do, so it was a waste of a journey for me and still had to pay £1 for 15 minutes even though I was there for approximately 3. The rates are reasonable but it is quite cramped inside with uncomfortable high chairs which are quite close to the person beside you which is awkward. Not as comfortable as a nice University library, which is what I'm used to.

So explained the fellow at Yeeha, anyway. On a Sunday afternoon I suddenly remembered I had to print out plane tickets for an insanely early Monday flight. So I was very grateful that Yeeha is open until 6pm on Sundays, an hour and a half later than the closest Staples. It doesn't look like much from the street, just a small sign that's easy to miss. Wear comfortable shoes for the two-storey climb upstairs. You may also wish to bring sanitary hand wipes; the keyboard I used was pretty grubby.

Inside the magazine you'll find a great selection of well written articles and glossy photographs documenting fashion, interior design, culture and local Glasgow events. You'll also find interviews with celebs (emphasis on Glaswegians). Businesses such as Mr Ben Vintage and Boudiche advertise with i-on, as it's a great way in which to reach the culture vultures of the city. Definitely pick up this little gem next time you see it sitting in the magazine rack at your local cafe!

I've recently moved onto reading the broadsheets as papers like The Sun, while convenient, don't…read morenecessarily offer too much insightful journalism. They are however, quite entertaining. Unlike The Daily Record who hides it's sleazy gossip behind a family-friendly veil, or The Daily Star which features little more than reality TV news and pages upon pages of celebrity upskirt shots, The Sun can be genuinely good fun. From a photoshopped image of a puffin dropping it's muck on Berti Vogts after the 2002 Scotland - Faroe Islands debacle to the consistently offensive TV column by Ally Ross, it never fails to entertain, even if it doesn't educate. To that end, it's probably got a hand to play in the dumbing down of everything from politics to TV that's occured over the past few decades, but as long as it keeps giving the public their fix of sport, gossip and nudity, few will complain.

Good journalism isn't completely missing but it's rare. Instead the Sun excels with its sports coverage, particularly of the lower football leagues, and its reliability when it comes to fantastic headlines. Super Caley Go Ballistic etc... was obviously its finest moment, but even when John Terry was caught being a naughty boy as recently as last week, it was the only paper which stepped up to the mark. "Surely some paper must use "A Bridge Too Far"", a friend of mine quipped. And alas, there it was. In the Sun. It's not big and it's not clever, but it does tend to raise a few more chuckles than its fellow comics.

Tommy Tango is a little corner shop in Whifflet main street that has the biggest selection of…read moresweets that you have ever seen. It sells loads of sweets by the quarter such as the old classics sweet peanuts, pear drops and Cola Cubes. I still feel like a kid when I go in to this shop and see all the jars of sweets lined up waiting to be measured out. Staff are nice and as well as sweets can buy other items including magazines etc. I stocked up recently with Cola Cubes and Pear Drops to make flavoured vodka's and the prices were really reasonable.

After walking across the Meadows to go to those early morning tutorials at university for a good…read moreyear, I had become familiar, as does everybody who walks that way, with the local Big Issue vendor. A cherry and friendly man, after a few months I decided to finally purchase a copy of the Big Issue. And since then, I have frequently bought it and enjoyed it. At first, you might not think much of it, but after a while you will appreciate what a great read it is. It has a range of interviews with stars (There was a brilliant interview with Amy MacDonald recently!) and also has a lot of in depth reporting on local issues. Indeed, I have found the Big Issue to be a brilliant hub of knowledge for reviews of local gigs and shows, and also a great source for adverts for jobs, events etc... Most of all, the majority of vendors I have come across are really friendly and are happy to show you directions as some know the city so well. If you fancy supporting a good cause and want a magazine which has the big interviews intertwined with local issues then the Big Issue is a great read! (Also, it reviews the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, an added bonus!)

Pretty standard free sheet fare, the Extra leans very much towards a "pun in every opening…read moreparagraph" way of thinking as opposed to hard news breaking. You know the kind; "So and so created a splash at a recent swimming festival...", "Horse riding was neigh bother for local kids..." and so on. Which is fair enough really. The goalposts have moved in local news reporting and it's inevitable that papers must now err very much on the side of the caution. Generally speaking the Extra is OK; reasonably busy pages for a free offering and decent news and sports coverage for the south side of the city. However what can't be accepted is the lack of attention paid to spelling and grammar. Peppered with misspelled words and poor punctuation, the paper exudes an unprofessional feel which undermines many of its features. Must do better.

This newspaper is absolutely rubbish. The articles are bland and unquestioning. The layout is…read moreuntidy. The photos have clearly been taken by a six mega pixel digital camera. However, having previously worked on a freesheet, I know what the conditions are like. The poor quality of this newspaper is not the journalists' fault, in fact the whole publication is probably being written and designed by one person. There are just no resources and money behind these operations. The future of the print media is probably freesheets but hopefully not like these. No one will ever read newspapers again.

A decent enough free sheet which is capable of bagging some high profile interviews and churning…read moreout the odd good feature for students, its primary target audience. It has been kicking around Glasgow for almost nine years now so it's obviously doing something right. Like all student publications, Scotcampus is prone to the odd cringeworthy feature, written by a contributor who will no doubt look back with overwhelming regret in the future, but it's still a good wee read to pick up in a pub or a cafe.
