There were 30 ppl that responded to my post; none of them know each other and I got 3 recommendations for Carl Sizemore!! The reviews were glowing from each person; each with a different set of unique circumstances for divorce and custody issues. I found out for myself how great he really is. He's so down to earth; he will not only fight for you in court, but be a friend and provide a listening ear for you what you are going through. I loved his sense of humor and kind nature. Definitely nice to have someone by your side when you are going through such a rough time. He's HONEST, affordable, responsive and an ASSERTIVE attorney. What more can you ask for?!?!? A bit of advice...you don't want an aggressive attorney, but an assertive attorney. Aggressive attorneys act without respect towards you and the judge all while costing you hundreds of thousands. They make promises they cannot deliver.

I hired this attorney for a difficult family-law matter and paid approximately $10,000 under a…read morefixed-fee arrangement. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the representation and communication I received. One of my biggest problems was that I did not feel the divorce process was adequately explained to me. For example, I learned about California's six-month waiting period from someone else rather than from my attorney. Going through a divorce for the first time is stressful, and I expected my attorney to explain the process, important deadlines, what to expect in court, and what I needed to do. Communication was also extremely frustrating. I sent numerous emails because I was worried about my case and did not understand what was happening. Many of my questions went unanswered, and instead I was told that I was sending too many emails. From my perspective, if a client understands the process and knows what is happening with the case, there is much less reason to repeatedly ask questions. One incident particularly bothered me. I was concerned about submitting my PDOD before a deadline. My recollection is that I was told that because it was a court holiday, I could wait. Later, in court, the judge raised the delay and said I would have to pay a fine. I was extremely disappointed that, when this occurred, my attorney did not explain to the court that I had relied on the guidance I had been given by counsel. I felt left to deal with the consequence myself. I had similar concerns during court appearances. I hired an attorney because I expected someone who would understand my case, prepare me, communicate with me, and actively present my position. Instead, there were times in court when I felt my attorney was largely passive when I expected advocacy on important issues. Eventually I decided that I needed different representation and changed attorneys. This review describes my personal experience and recollection. Others may have different experiences, but based on mine, I would strongly recommend that prospective clients ask detailed questions before hiring this firm about communication, court preparation, deadlines, what the fixed fee actually covers, and how actively the attorney will handle the case.

I retained this attorney with high expectations based on prior reviews, but after nearly two years,…read moreI'm disappointed with the outcome. I provided extensive documentation throughout the case, including printed photographic evidence, detailed logs, numerous witness statements, and support connected to the Department of Defense. While the materials were reorganized by counsel, the evidence itself was thorough and well-documented. Despite the amount and quality of information available, very little appeared to change as a result. After later consulting with other attorneys, I was told that more could have been done with the evidence provided. Communication was also an issue. Response times were often delayed unless something was needed from me, in which case immediate responses were expected. I don't question that work was done, but the execution and use of the evidence did not meet expectations given the length of time and level of documentation involved. Overall, I feel let down by the outcome, and maybe it was Just back luck, but all in all there was no fight for my child. And now I'm back to square 1.

He frequently didn't respond to me during the process. Before our court hearing I reached out multiple times trying to make sure he was ready with the expert witness he had me hire and pay for. Our very first court appearance he had to postpone because he failed to serve my ex! Then there was another hearing that was asked for another exemption. Zero response until a week before the hearing. I get a frantic call from Matt encouraging me to settle for less than half of what I would get in court! I refused. He gave me some story as to why it was in my best interest to take the 50%. Then he came back and said my ex was refusing that amount and it would be less than 30% of what I was entitled to, however his firm would make up the difference. HUGE RED FLAG and alarm bells went off! I work for a professional services company and we do NOT pay our clients. Then the next email I get is from an associate at his firm sending me a response filing by my ex's attorney. It detailed out Matt's failure to respond to settlement negotiations, and failing to file MY witness list (so I have NO expert) in trial. The court filing was clear this guy had not done a thing to help my case and it was all detailed out for the judge. I cried! I had waited over a year with his delays and extensions he requested on my case and now I have no chance of winning and zero faith in his ability to represent me. I took his offer as long as he put in writing to pay me the money to bring me to 50%. He said he would write off the attorney costs (well I certainly expected that since he screwed up the whole thing!) and he said he cut me a check within X number of days. Well that came and went. No money. Then he sends me a release he wants me to sign that says I won't discuss his screw ups! Absolutely NOT! He cost me money and he let my ex get away with even more BS. That was an insult on top of the injury he caused me. I filed a complaint with the state bar and I hired an attorney to represent me against Matt. I didn't quite get the amount I would have from my ex, but I still get to warn other people to run. This guy misses every deadline and can't even serve notice to the opposing counsel! Do yourself a favor and don't hire Matt Blado.

My experience with Kyle was deeply disappointing and ultimately damaging…read more I retained Kyle from late 2017 through mid-2023 for a complex, high-conflict custody and child support matter. During this period, I was unemployed, facing a federal civil lawsuit by the FTC, and under an asset freeze. Despite repeated requests--documented in emails over multiple years--for Kyle to correct my temporary child support obligations using proper guideline calculations (which would have shown the mother owing me support), he failed to act. On his advice, I stipulated in early 2018 to pay $3,000/month "without prejudice," under the belief that we would later correct the figures retroactively. However, when the FTC filed suit and froze my assets in late 2018, Kyle refused to address support at our November 2018 hearing. He advised against pursuing the issue, despite my financial hardship and the mother's continued employment and higher income. His October 16, 2018 response to my concerns was: "I'd like to avoid all that at this point, if at all possible, as the cost is going to outweigh the benefit." In hindsight, this decision has been devastating. That temporary order--never corrected--ultimately led to an erroneous $109,000 arrears judgment based on numbers the mother submitted to DCSS on her FL-420 and FL-421 forms. These inflated figures were taken at face value, and I am still fighting to unwind them in court. DCSS now confirms the mother, who earns four times my income, should be paying me support. Yet I cannot receive it because of these "arrears" she is being reimbursed for--based on flawed, outdated data Kyle never challenged. I'm now forced to pursue a motion to vacate this judgment on my own, because Kyle refuses to assist in fixing this monumental error. In addition, I asked Kyle for years to seek a restraining order due to repeated abusive conduct by the mother toward me and the children. He declined to pursue it. After relieving him, I filed for a TRO on my own and was granted one that lasted 7 months--proving that my concerns were valid and should have been raised long before. I eventually decided to allow the DVRO to expire because the mother stipulated to quit acting in a list of abusive ways to the children and I. This review is hard to write, as I once viewed Kyle as a trusted advisor and even a friend. But I spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on his services, and in the end, I was left unprotected and saddled with legal and financial burdens that could have been avoided. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend his representation. He is also ignoring me.
