This review is more of a 7/10 than an 6/10. While the food can be stellar; it's clear to me that they use and precook some of the ingredients (chasu is one example) that was lukewarm while the rest of my ramen was hot. The ambiance isn't quite there yet; I think they were playing pop music on Pandora; and I've been to other ramen joints that play more fitting music, or create a more inviting dining experience. The Coke I ordered came unopened next to a plastic glass of ice. And my typical measure of service is "how many times did the waiter and I chat, and/or does my water ever end up empty?" They came up short; so I docked them some more. It wasn't even a busy hour; but there were enough negatives through the entire dining experience that stand in the way of a better review. Pricing is a bit more than I'd like (most entrees start at around $11ish, with 'a la carte' for any additional ingredients (it's very easy to end up spending 20$ or more on bowl of ramen with just a bonus ingredient or two)) If I wasn't obsessed with ramen I'd probably never come back; but so far, I haven't found a better ramen joint in DFW; and their kimchi ramen is enough of a craving to bring me back despite all the negatives. 7/10 or 3/5 read more

Met a friend here for lunch - first time for both of us. Cute setting - casual and comfortable. Services was very prompt. We ordered a couple of appetizers - the Chashu buns - which were yummy...and the agedashi tofu, always a great starter. I got the Tsukemen ramen and my friend got the Garlic Miso ramen. I'm here from a road trip with family, and we decided to have ramen for dinner since it's so cold. The server was fantastic, and I really liked her. I appreciated the amount of noodles in the broth as it was REALLY filling. Other places, you can tell that the bundle of noodles came from a pre-packaged serving; however, this didnt seem like it. There was just a weird aftertaste that I wasn't used to when ordering Chashu Ramen, but I still finished my bowl. So full and can't breathe! This place was great! I went there for my friends birthday and we had a great experience. From the moment we walked in, we could smell the a variety of amazing different flavors. We tried the por dumplings as appetizers, the dough was soft and the filling was warm and delicious. I got the rallara ramen, which was very good too. Had the tonkotsu ramen with a Sapporo. Gotta admit, I'm underwhelmed. The ramen had a poor texture and I couldn't get a good bite. The broth for tonkotsu was decent, but my friend's miso base broth was not good. I've had good ramen and can make ramen. It is a very lengthy process to make a good broth. It seems like they do make their own broth, but they do not out enough care into it. Impurities determine an ok broth from great ones. Probably let it simmer over night. The pork had great fat content, but I parts that were protein were a bit hard. Pro's were fresh veggies, perfect soft boiled egg, great atmosphere. I hear bad stories about service, but I felt like service was great today. 3.5 starts if I could. read more

I haven't tried the tonkatsu, which is probably the best way to judge a ramen place so I'll have to be back again to try that, but Hakata has pretty good ramen! I've had better, but I've also had alot worse. This is definitely a place I would return to, but I'm not crazy for. If you've never had ramen before besides the kind that costs a quarter, I think this is the spot to try it for the first time. They have a lot of different flavors, so it's a good place to experiment with what you like. It's also probably one of Addison's more hip spots and a great place to take family or friends who haven't tried ramen before so you can educate them. I tried the Miso ramen, and wasn't blown away by the broth. I think I would try the tonkatsu next. Friends of mine tried the garlic ramen and said the garlic flavor was great, but there were too many garlic flakes so it became overpowering. So, don't order that unless you're really into garlic. Inside there is plenty of seating, both large tables and small, as well as booths, and they definitely put effort into the decor. So it's a nice casual spot for lunch or dinner at a fair price point. Living near the newly developed Asian area in Carrollton, there are plenty of options for good eats. However, I wanted to venture out and try something new and I was NOT disappointed! The service is speedy, with someone ready to seat you and take your orders as soon as you walk in! My hubby and I ordered the Japanese pancake as an appetizer and it was delish! If you ever had Takoyaki (which they also have), you'll love these! He got the spicy ramen and I ordered the dipping ramen. Now, the presentation was very pleasing and the food was just as amazing. The egg was prepared like any other ramen place, slightly underdone! The only complaint I had was the saltiness of my broth. I definitely felt like it was too much. This ramen spot is pretty good but the soup bases need more flavor. A good ramen has a good soup base and the ones here leave something to be desired. The other thing that irritates me with Ramen Hakata is that it feels like you are being nickel and dime for silly things like garlic flakes and pepper. They should just up the price and include things like thay so you don't feel like you're getting ripped off. Also, all the soup taste identical. Wow! This was the place that my soul needed after a long day of traveling. My hubs and I were able to get seated right away (but then again, it was like 2 in the afternoon). The staff was very polite and made sure that everything was to our liking. I had the spicy miso, which was just fantastic! I love the heat that came from my bowl of happiness then it smoothed out after each and every slurp of my soup. The hubs got the Hakata Ramen and it was also very delicious. The broth was savory and filled with so many elements of flavour. He finished the bowl without a peep, so it must have been good. When I go back, I'll for sure be back to this piece of happiness! I had the spicy garlic Ramen (no spice) delivered through DoorDash and I fell in love instantly. I haven't had Ramen like this except for one place in Chicago and it's too far away! I was super happy with the flavor (tons of garlic, as promised), the portion size, and the amount of pork that was in my soup. Most places skimp on the protein, but they did not. It was topped with a perfectly cooked, jammy egg and fresh scallions. Really, it couldn't have been better. It was such a large portion, I ate it twice. Luckily when I got there at 5:30 for an early dinner on opening day, it was not. It also happened they ran out of ramen at 7pm or so. Luckyyyyy! The A/C wasn't an issue for dinner unlike the lunch guests' experience. The only heat I was really feeling was from the busy busy kitchen, while I was sitting at the bar. The service was spotty since it was their first day and all so that was to be assumed. The servers are really sweet though and were trying their hardest. I ordered the Chashu ramen. I feel like everything was made right. It was delicious and i even drank all the broth. There could be a bit of improvement though. The soft boiled egg could be marinated a little better and I wanted a bit more meat like I've had at other ramen places, but it was good overall. I also ordered the Chashu buns and gyoza. The gyoza is a pretty well done. Looks like they put a whole order on a mini rectangular skillet to cook. My friend thought they didn't fry enough, but it's worth a try. The pork buns were somewhat good too. The sauce wasn't overpowering either. It was kind of like a type of cole slaw with pork. This place is definitely legit. Possibly even too legit to quit. There's no other ramen place in dallas like it so far. edit: The skinny ramen noodles are supposedly flown in fresh from California. I assume it's from the Sun noodle ramen factory in LA who also provide noodles for well known restaurants such as Momofuku in New York to Ramen Tusjita in Los Angeles. I apologize in advance for the long write up. All the negativity just struck a chord with me lol... It's grand opening day!! The restaurant has lunch and dinner hours, we went during dinner. Dinner begins at 5 and there will most likely be a bit of a wait (especially early on when the restaurant is super hyped up). No sweat, because it's very evident that the staff is working hard to get this pretty meticulous Japanese dish out for everyone. I'm thankful that dedicated ramen spots are beginning to pop up in the Dallas Fort Worth area (Ten and Monta soon). I will continue to support this movement, because it's a clear sign that the Dallas food scene is maturing. Haters only slow this process down. Because it WAS opening day, I fully expected some kinks that will need to be ironed out. We were one of the first ones in line so grabbing a table for 8 was simple and easy. They were very welcoming and extremely courteous when we walked in. The A/C issues that may have plagued lunch seemed to be working just fine. I believe it has more to do with the fact they do all the cooking in an open kitchen, and also because it's so busy the front door is constantly being opened by people coming in and out. Admittedly, they probably should turn down the temperature a couple degrees during the peak of the Texas summer. However, all the spots on the West and East coasts are pretty hot inside too, because it just adds to the experience. If you're not sweaty and smelling like ramen when you leave, you're simply not doing it right. With all that being said, the product is good. And ultimately, that's all that really matters. If you're expecting to go from door to door during your lunch in less than an hour, then why are you going to a ramen restaurant? Even with most of the established ramen joints around the country, there is a long wait. This is why people don't go to Daikokuya or Ippudo during a lunch break. Update: I ordered the spicy hakata ramen. The broth is quite tasty. It probably needs a little bit more salt, but there was still plenty of spice. The noodles were springy and not overcooked. The patented egg was a little on the well-done side, but it wasn't too bad and it definitely didn't kill the dish. Ultimately, there was a good amount of food. And considering it was 8.50 a bowl, that is pretty legit for dinner. If you like extra buttered corn, it's an additional 50 cents. In regards to the extra piece of chasu (pork belly) though, it's not worth the extra money. There is no denying that the service needs some major work, however I imagine it to only get better with time and practice. The staff will most likely need to be re-trained just to make sure everyone is on the right page. It seems like all the roles were all interchangeable and that's not the most efficient mode of service when it's really hectic. At least, not in the beginning. Things should be orderly, organized, and roles need to be defined. I hope they work on this. They ran out of food within two hours into dinner, so the restaurant unfortunately had to turn people back. The early bird gets the worm! It's grand opening day people, use common sense and call ahead. BY THE WAY, IT'S BYOB! We brought a nice bottle of wine with us, but they didn't have a wine opener lol :( As you can tell, Hakata is far from perfect. But it's not only the best ramen I've had in DFW, but I can genuinely say that I envision things will be improved. The product is definitely there, so they just need to work on the other things to make the entire experience more enjoyable. I'll return in a couple months just because I'm curious to see the evolution of the restaurant. Finally! A decent ramen joint in the DFW area, and best of all, they don't charge an arm and a leg for ramen. Normally, most ramen places will charge an additional $.50 to a $1 for corn, mushrooms, eggs, etc... But here, it was all included! We arrived promptly at 11 on their opening day and were the first people seated. I ordered the spicy tonkatsu miso and the bf ordered the spicy tonkatsu. I'm pretty sure they use the same broth for both but just added miso to the latter. The miso broth was milker than the tonkatsu, and for me, that was right up my alley. The "spicy" part however, really wasn't that spicy, granted maybe that's why there's only one pepper sign next to the item instead of the 10 peppers other ramen places advertise. However, the broth was very flavorful, erring a very small tad on the side of sweeter than the other ramen places I have had but still delicious. We also had the pork buns. The pork belly isn't the "melt in your mouth" type but the sauce made up for the lack of meat quality. The buns come in a sort of spicy mayo sauce, comparable to ippudo's with added siracha. Overall, being the first people there, we had no complaints for their opening day. The servers were very attentive, at least two stopped by to ask how the food was and my water was constantly refilled. I fanned myself a few times because as others have said, it was hot in there!!! But one of the workers saw me and came by to comment that they were working on fixing the A/C so hopefully that won't be a problem in the future. All I can say is, finalllllly, a real stamp on the Dallas food scene has been made by ramen and at a very reasonable price. A nice warm bowl of Ramen, made in traditional style where the broth has been made with love & care for many hours (12) before you even dream of having that bowl of Ramen. I had a nice meal here with friends. We started with the Chashu Bun, steamed buns filled with grilled pork belly, mayo, spicy sauce & iceburg, along with the Tebasaki, Japanese style chicken wings... also had ordered a plate of Gyoza which sadly never appeared on our table, only our bill, which we had to later have removed. Which was unfortunate as we'd been craving Gyoza. The appetisers were tasty, & nice easy sharing plates, & the ice cold mugs of Japanese beer were perfect. The ramen however left me feeling a little disappointed, it was good, but not great. It was tasty & warming, but not the kind of Ramen that would have me rushing back there especially. I have to admit I am a big spoilt when it comes to ramen, having had many a great bowl on my travels to Japan & do have a favourite spot in Narita that i have been known to jump a 10hr flight from Sydney to especially enjoy a bowl of their Spicy ramen. Ramen Hakata is a nice easy option to share a few cold beers & some nice share plates with friends, it's well priced & easy for seating, with quite a cute atmosphere. I don't know what these bad reviews ordered but I liked what I got. Fyi, I have had ramen outside Dallas. And just like everywhere else, they get mix reviews. Why is that? I wasn't sure what to expect after reading these mix reviews. I went in with an open mind. I was craving ramen so much one time, I spent the whole day making it so I know first hand how hard it is to make ramen. What I made turned out okay. It was way better than tanoshii garbage but not as good as Hakata. I had the spicy ramen with butter corn and it was better than other ramen places in Dallas so far. There's not many ramen options in dfw to begin with. This place is so much better than tanoshii and sapporo. The broth at tanoshii is just purely oil and no flavor. It's flavorful here and it's not as salty as ramen tatsuya in Austin. I ate every bite of it and sipped all the broth!!! It had good flavor! not too salty, not too oily. Between two of us, we shared takoyaki appetizer while waiting for our ramen. It was good. Service was friendly. They checked up on us several times. We got in right when it opened so no waiting in line. Portion was enough to get me full but I did sip all the broth. Price is expensive because they only give you one piece of pork. And if you want extra piece of pork that's $1.50. Butter corn was .50 more. But then again, all the ramen places are priced at around $10 a bowl. Some places give you two pieces of pork. They only give you half an egg. I have two in my bowl because I took my friends egg hehe that's what yelpers are for! We're here to eat what you don't! I could use a little more salt in my bowl just because ramen is suppose to be salty and I could use more of spicy paste. I like things spicy! Sooo, Ramen Hakata!! I did not expect much from them at ALL. No offense, Hakata. It's not you, it's me -- I have trust issues (Tanoshii, Old Taro, etc.). When we lined up, we were at the end of the corner (the line didn't wrap around yet). But the wait wasn't bad! It didn't take us more than 15 minutes to get seated. While in line, the hostess takes your name+number of people in the group and has the servers set up a table for you. I was pleasantly surprised by their garlic miso ramen! I LOVE garlic, so this might be a biased review, but if they execute one of my favorite dishes well, then they're going to get a great review. The flavor was amazing, and like some others have said, the noodles are a little bit soft, but it doesn't detract from the taste. I couldn't really taste the marinade on the eggs, but their chashu was actually cooked perfectly the way I like it -- thick and tender. I tried some other broths - spicy miso and spicy tonkotsu - and they were... SPICY! I really liked it. After tasting the miso, I could really taste the creaminess of the tonkotsu. However, I've heard their tonkotsu is very watery... I'll have to try that by itself next time. Chashu buns were disappointing. Very thin chashu with almost no flavor. Did they put cinnamon on their meat...? I didn't like whatever herb-y taste that was. I like my pork belly buns full of meat, juicy flavor, and strong pickled slaw. The buns didn't deliver any of that. The takoyaki wasn't bad! I really liked the flavors, and I think they did it well. Please don't be too hard on them on their service! They just opened. It's hard to know what to say about Ramen Hakata. I've recently read reviews that boast about its 'authentic ramen', 'best outside Japan'. This place doesn't deserve any such praise. It's mediocre at best & the reviews leave me wondering if its authors have actually ever stepped foot inside any real ramen house in Japan. The menu itself boarders on Asian Fusion, with appetisers such as chashu buns & additional ramen toppings like kim chi. That being said, I'm not implying here that the food is bad, it's actually relatively tasty. Just don't come here & expect to be indulging in dishes that aren't a bastardised version of traditional Japanese food. My friends & I each ordered a small bowl of ramen, I electing for the Spicy Miso Ramen, yet felt ambitious enough to also order a round of appetisers to share. We chose a serve of gyoza (which they ultimately forgot & ended up taking off our check), the chahsu buns & the Geso Karaage (Deep fried squid legs with mayo). The chashu buns were easily my favorite dish here, they were plump, tasty & full of rich sauce & Japanese mayonnaise... Let's face it, everything tastes better with mayo. The Geso was relatively forgettable & the ramen, disappointingly bland & lacking that punch of flavour I've come to expect from a true spicy ramen. Nevertheless, it wasn't a total flop. I was really excited to try this place and went on the second day of opening. It did not disappoint at all. I'm really really happy there's a legit ramen place in Dallas. Both were excellent! The broth was rich and flavorful and noodles cooked to perfection. We tried to order the takoyaki but our waitress said they were out which was ok since we were there for the ramen. It took about 15 minutes for our food to arrive. Which is not bad at all since they were packed. I look forward to coming back soon to try the other ramens they offer. I really don't understand the lack of stars due to service. I finally decided to make a drive down to Addison to try Ramen Hakata because I had been craving Japanese Ramen since I visited Japan last June. Well, I might have had too high expectations. To be honest, it wasn't what I pictured. I was there on Friday dinner and there was no wait. None! I had a gut feeling about their food since then. The inside of the restaurant was pretty small. The interior looks like a typical Asian fast food restaurant. The quantity and price may be reasonable. Unfortunately, the quality of food was far from that. I had spicy Miso Ramen and I even asked for MORE SPICY, which I expected to be REALLY spicy. NOPE! They charged me $2 for what I asked to be more spicy. I just don't get it! The soup broth was way to salty. The toppings were just alright. I also asked for no noodles and vegetarian styles, like no noodles, no pork, no egg!, and substitute with veggies in stead. I was ridiculous that they just put A LITTLE more bean sprouts and they charged me for $3 more! By the way, my boyfriend got a regular shoyu broth. He told me pork shachu was flavorless and the broth was watery with soy sauce! TWO stars for the service!! Again, to be honest, I have a lot of experiences eating authentic Japanese ramen. I heard about the poor review for this place is only because people are comparing this ramen shop to whatever they had in Japan. really? *shake my head* lunch date with boyfriend here! ordered the bun and it was yummy. also miso ramen and spicy miso ramen. it was delicious. I tried the ramen from tatsuya in Austin and I honestly didn't like it because after eating it I felt like I drunk a whole gallon of oil and salt. it was not a pleasant experience! I heard rumors of Ramen Hakata's owners coming from California to bless Texas with some good ramen. Boyfriend took me here Saturday afternoon for lunch because I had a rough week and he had heard good things about Hakata. Food: Truly impressed with the quality of the ramen here. We visited California over spring break and dare I say, this place was better than the ramen house we had in Cali?! I ordered the Hakata ramen (first one) and my boyfriend ordered the Chashu ramen (fifth one down). We wanted to order the Takoyaki, but they had already ran out of that for the day :( I'll be sure to come early next time to try them out. The flavor of the broth was really something to behold. When I first received my ramen, I took a big sip of the broth and I just knew that this would be the best new ramen house in the DFW. Noodles were the perfect consistency, and I loved the fact that they had a soft boiled tea egg. Few other toppings made it perfect. I also saw the chashu buns were really popular, but we didn't order them. Environment: Modern looking place with several wood panel touches. We were seated at the bar, but there was no alcohol. Instead, there was a better view: the chefs making the ramen. Extremely clean kitchen. It was an interesting sight to see them hand weigh the ramen portions and create the pieces of chashu. They cook the chashu to make the broth more flavorful, then they take out the slices and hand torch them to give them the smoked flavor. I also enjoyed how they strained the broth through some extra spices and seasonings and straight into your bowl. Service. The service is pretty much the only thing that wasn't perfect about my visit here. The employees are all extremely nice, but it took about 20 minutes for our ramen to come out of the kitchen. My boyfriend and I spent more time waiting than eating. It was a bit of a drag, and probably not a place to go if you're in a rush. I also think there's a rather large lack of seating in this small little restaurant. It gets pretty jam-packed. There's a 50% chance you'll end up sitting in the personal bubbles of strangers, so get ready to overhear some conversations that you're not interested in. In addition to this, it was fairly disorganized. The employees had to confirm our order with us because they had lost our order, and once again at the cash register. For some reason, they had the hardest time keeping track of what we ordered. I leave the rating at 5 stars because these are normal kinks that will be worked out when the restaurant goes into full swing. It's still brand new and the employees are already getting worked. It didn't bother me much at all, since they were all super nice and apologetic about the mix ups anyway. On a side note, the cashier told us that it's BYOB, so feel free to bring some friends (if you can all fit) and share some drinks! Not the best ramen I've tasted, but definitely the best in DFW so far. Simple, easy, and perfect broth. Must try. read more

The new kid on the block getting a lot of grief, what's new? I'll say that this review is based solely on the comparison to other Dallas ramen which has been less than satisfactory.. so maybe that's not fair but what're you gonna do. The week that this place opened, my Instagram was flooded with pictures of ramen and check-ins and the likes. I was eager to try it out and immediately made plans for Wednesday dinner, the day after it's opening. We planned to arrive around 7pm but after being told by multiple people that they had run out by 7pm on Tuesday, we bumped our time up to 6pm without hesitation. Thank goodness because we were the first people to have to wait at 6 and by 6:15, there was a line. When we were seated, I think we had 4 different servers come up to us to ask to take our order. That was a bit of an overkill but at least they were prepared for being busy (in terms of staff). I ordered the takoyaki and garlic ramen. Everything was just okay; broth, noodles, eggs, etc. You take your number up to the counter to pay. It was unorganized and there were two lines but being the first week, I know they just needed to work it out. No big deal. The second time I came (two days later), my friends and I arrived at 6 again and there was already a line. The service was overkill again (3 different waiters) and it seemed like people who sat down after us were getting their food before us.. But the food was better for me! I ordered the SPICY garlic ramen this time and it was just right for me, good amount of spice and lots of garlic. I'm not sure if the first time I came or if it was the spice but I'm glad I came again on Friday because the flavor of that second bowl of ramen was on point. You could also tell that they had been working on their crowd because everyone waited outside which gave more room for people trying to pay. Anyways, it's nice to see a place trying to improve and I hope they continue this way. If you're coming while they're still working things out, be patient! This is probably one of the best ramen in Dallas so far (which isn't saying much, I know). Hopefully this will get all other places to step up their game. read more

Soooo I've been waiting for this place for quite awhile in hopes that Dallas will step their ramen game up. Ramen hakata claims to be the hakata style ramen, but I felt that it was pretty far from it. I had the hakata ramen. Hakata style is tonkotsu which means the broth should be thick and rich with porky-ness, but it was bland and kinda tasted like seasoned water. The chashu looked nice, it was really soft and tender but much like the broth, it lacked flavor. My ajitama was nicely seasoned, but slightly overcooked. The noodles were probably the only good thing in the bowl, they had bite and were not too thick. My friends got the spicy miso ramen, and it tasted like miso soup with a scoop of gochujang in it..... We also had the chashu buns which were meh, and the takoyaki which to me, looked as if they were deep fried instead of being cooked on a pan. I say because the outside was really crispy but the inside was raw. This is all based on my first visit here, and I'm disappointed, maybe they are still getting their shit together, who knows. I may come back in a month to see if things get better. read more
