I loved our lunch at Akira. Maybe my expectations were low, but this is a legit ramen place! Located on Corso Vittorio not far from Porta Nuova train station, this is part of a chain with several locations in Rome, Turin, and Brescia.
They serve traditional Iekei ramen, where the pork bone-based Tonkotsu broth is cooked for 10 hours, and the noodles are homemade Futomen, which are slightly thicker (and therefore chewier).
Our lunch started with an "antipasto misto" with Gomawakame/seaweed salad, soft boiled egg marinated in soy sauce, and Yakitori with leek. This dish was excellent and perfect to share.
We then tried the Ramen White Shio, which features shio-based sauce with a mild, sweet, miso-like flavor; the Ramen Black Shoyu which is soy-based. They were both really good choices. Bonus points: if there is some leftover broth in your ramen, for 3€ you can add 140g of noodles (2.5€ for 150g of rice), and go for seconds!
It's great that they offer two sizes: classic and mini, as we felt the mini was perfect for lunch.
They also have a kids menu in 2 options: Baby Ramen or Baby Rice, both featuring a choice of karage or gyoza, plus edamame, mochi ice cream, and a drink (soda or water).
I would definitely come back and try some of the other dishes on their extensive menu. read more
