I visited the Haverstraw station, and an officer did not come to the window courteously. I had to…read morespeak to a speaker and tell him my complaint before it would be a crime. He said we investigate crime as a civil problem get a lawyer. Haverstraw police are a joke, like the Mayor, that's why no one will invest in that town in life support. Hate to think what it would be in 5 years.

The officer I spoke with was of no help, informed me they had no record of the person I was looking for, no license, and no vehicle information. He then informed me I should be calling the Orangeburg police department, not Haverstraw. I called the Orangeburg police department in which they informed me that this information was incorrect and it was Haverstraw police I needed to speak with. When I called back to inquire about the persons name in whom I was speaking too, I was hung up on. So basically I was either being lied to by this department or they had no interest in helping me find someone who has been missing since 2019. Someone who is diagnosed as being bi polar. Clarkstown Police Department had a wealth of information regarding said individual, however Haverstraw police department did not even have a person by that name. Someone who clearly had a license and owned a vehicle. It saddens me to know that the people of this district has such incompetent officers working for them.

I really enjoyed their summer reading program they offered this year for adults. My biggest complaint is with a few of the staff members. There are a few staff who are very rude and unhelpful. A few times I asked an older gentleman for help and he quickly responded in a rude matter, saying I can't help you. He wouldn't even try to ask a colleague or attempt to help me. I finally found a different librarian and they had to remedy the situation and teach their colleague the process. On the other hand, there are many librarians who are very friendly and helpful, but it doesn't go for everyone. In addition, they are very quick to accuse you of damaging books. The smallest tear or stain requires you to pay a large fine to replace the book. There is something called wear and tear that happens when books are lent out to people and that's the reality of a library. Overall, I am happy with the library and appreciate the resources.

"Dutch Colonial farmhouse built in the early 1700's. Both carved date of 1747 found on an old barn beam and the rubble stone construction of the house place it in this early period. Minutes of the East New Jersey Board of Proprietors and existing public records lead to the belief [that the] house was built by a Westervelt, early owners of the land (a part of the much disputed Ramapough tract). According to recently discovered records, the house served as a tavern during the 18th century. Thus came the persistent legend that Aaron Burr stopped here for liquid refreshment en route to the Hermirage. This house is on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places." I'd love to stop by when it's open. [Review 11521 overall, 1301 of 2019.]
