My go-to place for Thai food in Cologne... a little café, not too posh, but, choose right from the menu, and the food can be simply sensational... try the Yam Woon Sen (glass noodle salad with minced pork, dried shrimp fish sauce and chili), the Pad Krapao (beef, duck, chicken or pork with green beans, Thai basil and ruinously hot sliced chilis) or the Thom Kha Ghai (I hope I'm spelling these correctly - chicken broth soup with lemon grass, mushroom, chili and coconut milk, best hangover cure ever).
If you're from the UK / North America, make sure you order everything 'Thai scharf' (Thai spicy / hot) to get the full experience... if you need to crank it up a notch, there's always a little pot of Prik Nam Pla on the table (fish sauce with chopped birds-eye chili... with pickled lemon bits in it, the best I've ever had!!!) And did I mention the prices? Everything here is so cheap, it's like being a kid in a sweet shop... you can order stuff you're not familiar with just to try it out, without worrying about making a hole in your wallet.
The only drawback is that it's not licensed, so it's green tea or soft drinks (no BYO in Germany), but the food is so good, that it's never a downer.... plenty of bars around close by to slake your thirst afterwards (and if you do the 'Thai scharf' you WILL need some serious slaking ;0).
Should be five stars, but the lack of booze knocks it down a peg... and where else can you watch live Thai soap operas in Cologne?
Highly recommended. read more
