I'm one of those people who needs a good reason to trust a place with my hair. I get it completely…read moredone (the works: cut & color) a few times a year, and I don't mind going to a place to spend hours and money in. To me, it's a treat yo'self investment. So I heard about Urban, right by Greensborough's main street, and gave it a try. I was nervous, it being the first time doing over my hair in Aus. I usually just stretch it out and wait til I get back home and go to my hairdresser I've had for years. Anyways, I'm ranting. Both Adnan and Daniel took turns working on my hair. I had an appointment for 10:30am, and from 11am til 2:30pm, I was being washed and pulled and dyed and cut and dried. Daniel free handed (no-foil) colored my whole head. Adnan is like a artist creating a masterpiece with each client. He re-shaped my hair into the con-clave/ angled bob that I wanted. They mixed two colors to give my hair this ombre warm ashy color, lighter than previously. And then blow dried it super straight and shiny with a bounce when you walk. They fulfilled all my wishes here, and were like hair genies. I left feeling like an edgy rock star with everything they did. I trust a place that has so many regulars. And while I was waiting for my hair to do it's color thing, I saw a lot of people come and go. And majority of them, regulars. On a first name basis. And Adnan knows exactly when you were here last, and what he did with your hair. He'll tell you how to take care of it. He'll give you what you want and you'll walk out with that extra special "treat yo'self" skip in your step that you get after going to the salon. I still am unsure about how salon-pricing goes in Australia. But with my full cut, whole head of color, and blow dry, it came to an even $200. Is that high or low? I don't have the slightest. But what I do know is that this salon is unisex, so come males and females. They know what they're doing at Urban Hair & Beauty.

My hair is destroyed! It's taken me a week and a half to calm down enough to write this review…read more The people are very friendly there, but I have had the worst hair cut and colouring experience of my life. First off, the colour... I was EXTREMELY specific as to what I wanted in terms of foils. I wanted a light creamy to ashy baby blonde - no bleach, definitely erring on the side of ashy. When I left the salon I was happy with the colour, but after just two mild washes, it is completely orange and brassy. It's disgusting. On top of this, the hair dye was obviously left in too long, because my hair is FRIED! My hair not been coloured in over 11 months and was in amazing condition. Now it is like dried out straw. Orange straw. As for the length, I got what I asked for, however, the hairdresser chopped out about 3/4 or more out of my hair - there is practically nothing left. Yes, it needed to be thinned out - maybe about 10 to 20% - NOT flipping 75 to 80%. There is literally almost next to nothing to grab to make a ponytail. I was also very explicit pre-haircut that I need to put my hair in a ponytail a lot. Now it is a massive chore to find a few hairs to grab. Finally, I requested the length that I did because I have a natural curl & wave to my hair. I was happy to go quite a bit shorter to embrace these curls. Unfortunately, because my hair was fried to death with the colouring, all of the curls seems to have been burned out of it. Straw doesn't curl - it's just blah. I am so embarrassed to be seen in public. Last weekend, I have had 7 to 8 people ask me "Oh my God! What happened to your hair?!?!?" These are kind sweet people who were genuinely concerned about me. I don't think they had any idea that I paid big bucks for this horror on my head. There have been other people who just stare at my head and you can tell are too embarrassed to ask about it. I look like my friend's 4 year old daughter who decided to cut her own hair one day - if she'd also poured orange food colouring on it. I am devastated, I am embarrassed, I am angry, and I am depressed - this nightmare is going to continue for another six months to a year before some semblance of regular hair returns. Now I have to go to Vic Roads to have this nightmare immortalised on my driver's license for the next ten years.
