We recently bought a residence in northwest Gainesville which, on testing, had radon levels off the charts (greater than 30 pCi per liter, more than 7 times above the safe threshold). We called Lauryn Oggier, the owner and technical expert of Radon Group, to plan and implement the steps needed to remediate the problem. She installed pipes in the corners of two of our closets and a fan in our attic that captures much of the radon coming up from the ground below the home's foundation and delivers it above the roof where it can be safely vented into the atmosphere.
After installing the pipes and fan, the level was dramatically improved, but still slightly higher that the threshold. Lauryn used her experience and excellent problem-solving skills to determine likely routes that radon might take in our home to circumvent the exhaust system she had installed. After following her recommendations, including her installation of a larger fan (at no additional expense to us), we now have a home that is well below the danger threshold for radon levels.
Throughout the process, Lauryn was the consummate professional. Her work was exacting. The most impressive thing about her was her determination to achieve results that were not only good enough, but better than good enough. I expect that most companies would have called it a day when the first set of radon level results came back just slightly above threshold. Not Lauryn. She persisted and would not have stopped until the results came back substantially below the safe threshold.
My wife and I are pleased to give Radon Group our best recommendation. If you live in Alachua, Marion or Union counties in Florida, you should probably check to be sure that you aren't living in a home with dangerous levels of radon. Radiation from radon is considered a leading cause of lung cancer, second only to smoking in importance. In the event that you do find that you have unsafe levels, the good news is that this problem can be solved by Radon Group. read more
