I've been going to this church for about 2 years. Motto:…read moreOpen Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors Tagline: A Progressive Church for Thinking People Things they believe: You shouldn't blindly follow. Alternative lifestyles shouldn't be condemned. Giving messages in the bible a modern day connotation. As in: I don't really read the bible because I know you have to study the history and understand the time period to understand the meanings of the words, and I just don't have the time to learn all that. But, an example would be one Sunday the sermon was about how God said to rest on Sunday, which is just impossible for me, and the Pastor said, what God really meant was that we should take time out of our hectic busy lives for a few moments of peace. So take care of yourself. This church has a message of love overcomes all, condemnation is not on the agenda for this one. So I highly recommend this as a starting place for looking for a church if you are feeling trapped by the fundalistic views you are receiving elsewhere. So the Cons? Most of the congregation is older, but there is a movement in this church to reach the needs of younger (anyone under 65). If your looking for more in a church than sitting one Sunday a week listening to a preacher, this might actually be the place for you, as long as your willing to make new friends and let the people there know what you want. Like I told them I would like a group that gets together and plays board games like settlers of catan, and they are going to buy the game and arrange that activity. And I mentioned that meet up would be a great place to reach people my age, so they started an account. It's nice to be in a church where they care about the needs of people and respond to them. And they aren't just focused on how many seats they can fill on Sunday or how much money they can fill their coffers with. It's nice to know even though they are bringing in less donations than they have expenses, they are still providing the same level of care to their members, and community. They help support an orphanage in Africa, the interfaith family shelter in everett, (where homeless in Stanwood usually end up) and the food bank in Stanwood. Their focus on truly helping those around them simply to do the Right thing in this world is refreshing and constantly reminds me why I believe in God, and that God can be seen in each of Us.
