The ground floor bar was quite nice and a great place for a recap meeting or pre dinner drink. The rooms are very comfortable and clean and updated, score if you face the park. I got a nice upgrade to a room with a sitting area separate from the bedroom. The pool is a bit small and is just off the lobby bar. ATM onsite in the basement.

Without fail they…read moresaid "why?", with concern, before voicing their experiences which ranged from: * Being pick-pocketed at the airport; * Having things stolen from them as they laid beside those things on the beach; * Being robbed at gunpoint, en masse, during the afternoon at a private party in a friend's home; and * Being certain that a kidnapping was imminent. I'd be lying if I didn't say these stories left me concerned for my safety. I was arriving in São Paulo solo and meeting with my son later that night, hopefully. After much research I settled on the InterContinental where, for approximately $195/night including a beautiful daily buffet breakfast for two I believed my son and I would be less likely to fall victim to anything undesirable. Mission accomplished. The InterContinental chain of hotels is a leap above the places I generally stay. Research seemed to indicate it was a hotel for business people though not located in a solely business district. From what I could tell, it was located in a relatively safe area, in one of the nicest parts of São Paulo. Though the InterContinental clearly attracts many business people (airline captains too) pleasure travelers shouldn't hesitate to stay here. I found it to be one of the best hotel experiences I've had. Not only was it in a busy, upscale neighborhood but it's very close to the subway, MASP, and some of the best shopping and dining areas of SP. The hotel was immaculate and safe (the lobby area is watched closely, the elevator requires a room key, access to the pool does as well). The front desk staff and concierge were helpful, considerate, and spoke English. The bar area is lovely and doesn't gouge on prices. The breakfast buffet is unequaled: 6 different kinds of fresh fruit juice (including acai), omelets made to order, probiotics, fresh fruits, and even a Japanese breakfast (you won't really need to eat again until dinner). The room itself was well outfitted. The lush beds held every sort of pillow imaginable. The shower had great water pressure. A separate bathtub was enticing enough to lure me in. The room temperature was easily and accurately controlled and wifi was perfect. I was left with nothing to complain about. Well, perhaps. The day after his arrival my son decided to go for a swim in the rooftop pool we'd viewed from our 15th floor room. We arrived there only to learn that the entire thing was 2.5 feet deep which gave us both a good laugh. Objects in the window may be smaller than they appear. Still, the pool and sunning patio was immaculate and lovely. If I were a business traveler or air captain I'd happily stay here. But on my own dime, as a pleasure traveler? I'd definitely stay here. I have not had any issues that a few others posted about and the hotel is quite homey. They welcome you like a king upon arrival and have a plate of grapes and apples and chocolate brigadeiros waiting for you. The room has modern creature comfort amenities and the shower supplies are first class. To give you an example of how far this hotel goes to please its guests, the in house gym was closed for repairs 1-2 days during my stay. To make up for that the hotel arranged for a complimentary day pass at a nearby BodyTech gym ($30 value) at no cost and even picked up the taxi tab. Great turn down service with havianas placed bedside each night. The in house restaurants and Baretto Lounge are equally impressive--great Italian food and bossanova music. This hotel is on par or better than a Four Seasons and is a member of the distinguished Leading Hotels of the World group....the new Rosewood is getting a lot of attention but after checking out their common areas I still would prefer Fasano. There also is an upscale mall featuring premium stores such as Gucci and Dior along with excellent restaurants attached to the hotel--comes across to me as a smaller version of Bal Harbour Shops.

The starter of asparagus soup set off the meal. While I'm normally not too big on asparagus, this soup nicely muted the harshness of regular asparagus while retaining just enough of the flavor to be perfect. The veal-stuffed pasta was divine! This isn't a preparation that I have seen too many places, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The veal wonderfully complemented the pasta itself and was a perfect portion size. My lamb and polenta main dish was a generous portion size, with the lamb being cooked perfectly. It was just great. We rounded things out with a beautifully presented dessert plate. Basics are easy but beyond that can be a challenge. The room is small but sufficient and had decent linens but the quality of the mattress was fair. The location is fabulous. There are tons of great restaurants and shopping within an easy walking distance, right behind the library (Biblioteca Mario de Andrade) that we didn't see until the second day. It is an a HUGE and confusing intersection that you can easily lose your way if you don't pay attention. There are about 6-8 streets that converge onto the intersection of the hotel. I wouldn't recommend a car if you're a foreigner because they drive crazy and it is difficult to get around that city even for locals. My two biggest complaints with the hotel has to do with the noise level and wifi. I was on the 22nd floor and could hear everything on the streets. I was often awaken by the noise so they don't have good windows and/or insulation. The wifi is very slow and unreliable. I could not do FaceTime and I often got hung up on other things so long it was frustrating. They need to upgrade their system. I did see that they had wired computers on the first floor for use but I preferred to use my own equipment from my room. The bathroom is standard but don't expect a face towel. They give you a bath and hand towel--one per person unless you ask for more. Their gym was pretty good. 4 treadmills, a couple of bikes, free weights, and machines. No pool or hot tub. They also do not have a spa, which was disappointing. You could tell they once had one so it must not have been success. I saw the restaurant but didn't use it. It looked nice but we read reviews that suggested to go to the local places due to price and quality. The bar 365 looked decent with reasonable prices but we didn't use it either. They have some good "green" initiatives there. Most of the hallway lights are on sensors and of course you have the option of skipping new towels or sheets. They commit to planting trees whenever guests decline these services. You also have to use your room key (Like European hotels) in a slot near the door while in the room to turn on lights or electric. However I think this is also why my iPad didn't charge while I was gone. Don't use the mini bar. It's incredibly overpriced like most. I believe a small container of Pringles (around $1usd) was $13 Rheis. Be prepared to pay double for all things in Brazil even with our exchange rate. Bring your own snacks because chocolate is almost impossible to find or costs a lot. When I weigh all things, I think it's a pretty good hotel esp due to the location, cleanliness and friendly staff. Google translate is fantastic. Use it.

My room was a little underwhelming compared to what I had expected from the photos, but it was clean and comfortable for my stay. The Wi-Fi work just fine. The circular windows were interesting to look out of. The bathroom arrangement with the rising separator was interesting and unique. I ate at the restaurant in the hotel several times and the food was quite good and delicious. Walking from the hotel to the nearby park was convenient and felt very safe.
