Situated in my home away from home, Cesme, the part of Turkey, that has remained truly Turkish,…read morewithout McDonald's, or KFC's, spoiling the landscape (Although this year 2012, they have succumbed to a Burger King) But it is tucked away inside a complex in the posh looking marina, so doesn't spoil the traditional look of the area!! Cesme is where the RICH Turks have their holiday homes for a reason! The Marina with all the amazing yachts & designer boutiques (The Marina boutiques were built only a year or two ago) Yet the poor Turkish homes, mingle beautifully, with the wealthy mansions, the castle plus the pastel & white hotels. There are swanky 5-star hotels to stay in, and be pampered in, like the Sheraton, but when I'm there, I always stay at one of two budget priced, family run hotels, who have become like extended family to me. One of those being the 2-star Hotel Doga (Doga means Nature) Hotel Doga is in the heart of Cesme a short walk from the Castle, Marina & Town Square. The complex has a building with individual basic hotel rooms & also separate chalets, the complex has apricot trees, as well as other trees baring other fruits, such as limes & plumbs, which your welcome to pick & eat/use. Like most of Cesme's hotels, the pool is not heated so might be a bit of a shock to get into at 1st when sat in the boiling sun, but the initial shock is soon gone & you will find your dip refreshing & prepares you for some more time basking in the sun. But I hear rumours that the pool will be gone at some point in 2012 to make room for more apartments, but don't worry the beaches are not far away & you can use other hotels pools & bar areas without any problems (Even the Sheraton) The family are very welcoming & you soon become part of the family, with people regularly coming back year after year. In fact Doga is ranked #4 out of 51 Cesme Hotels. The near by beaches of Altinkum, Illica and Dalyan are beautiful in their own ways, Altinkum white sand, the others a little shaley but sandy in the clear, clear sea. Cesme is a melting pot with people coming back year after year (While many never have heard of Cesme their loss.. I think only Thomas Cook has Doga in their broachers) With blonde haired, blue & green eyed Turks, you can't tell the locals from the locals as the Turks, Brits, Norwegians, Swedes etc blend with each other seamlessly, there is no them & us in Cesme everyone mixes with everyone. Doga provides entertainment, such as live music & belly dancers, it may be budget prices, but the staff are happy & friendly, the rooms are kept clean, with bed linen & towels changed every other day, the food is good & the cocktails to die for (The bar stays open as long as their are people who want to drink!!) BBQ nights are popular too. If you want a proper Turkish holiday that isn't all commercialised like Bodrum then I can't recommend Cesme highly enough I introduced my sister to one of my friends I made there & they have been married 15-16yrs & have a holiday home there. So you may find some romance there too (I have a few times lol) If you want a basic budget holiday, with clean sheets & good food & service, I'd recommend you give Hotel Doga a try!!

Pırıl Hotel Thermal & Beauty Spa - The "junior suite" ha ha ha ... total joke

Maximum, 40-50 bucks. 1) the advertised "free parking" is actually a limited street parking along the highway, the space in front of the entrance fits about six double parked cars and does not qualify as "parking" in my opinion. 2) the Hotel itself, named after the owner' daughter is nowhere near the advertized 5 stars, maybe 2 stars. We reserved junior suites, and Oh Lord, the rooms were tiny and sad; their furniture is at the hostel level; tje soap is in dispensors inside the bathroom like in a cheap motel (video and pictures attached) 3) the advertized "walking distance" is not easily walkable, with all the ups and downs, turns, and unfinished construction along the way. After the first atempt walking, we came back and drove to the shore 4) the fitness room: they enclosed some space with glass and called it a fitness room/ there was no heating, and it felt as cold as being outside in January. I was unable to work out. 4) The hot buffet was very basic, edible if you are hungry, except for the fried fish which tasted as medicinal cod liver oil. The salad bar was ok. On the good side: The receptionists, and waiters, and the Spa personnell are all very nice. I liked the thermal pool and the VIP hamam. The turkish hamamci took away my back pain. He was very good. I will not stay at this hotel next time I am in Çeşme. I feel I overpayed big time.

This is my favorite destination on the entire planet. This year marks 10 years since our first…read morevisit. This review will go from reservations to the sea to explain what to expect from good visit. Reservations from at least a month in advance makes sense because this place is almost always operating at full capacity. No political events affect how active this place is in comparison to everywhere else because the patrons are largely established Turkish families. I would advise placing reservations through a travel agency as they are able to speak with accountants and such in the event of any issues. Breakfast goes from 7-10 AM; dinner from 7-10 PM. The earlier you go the better. In recent years dinner has seriously improved. I ate various fish and greens for a whole week without once being bored. Hotel requires payment for any other meals and all beverages. Food can be ordered at the beach restaurant and to deck chairs on the pool and seaside. They have an indoor gym and pool in addition to an outdoor pool and the best seaside I have ever been privileged enough to visit. The gym facilities are well-furnished with weights, ellipticals, treadmills, weight machines, a rowing machine, mats, stretching devices, and water. Best part about working out here is that you sweat double what you sweat inland. The sea is a bit salty but worth every eye and throat burn. Wind starts picking up in mid-August and the climate becomes somewhat like a warm Çanakkale. Room fees start to go down and the hotel can operate beyond its capacity at this time so the final week of high season is my preferred time to visit.

We sat at the Laguna Restaurant, right on the beach. The chicken skewers were tasty but salty. The shrimp salad was also salty. The cheeseburger was reasonable. The penne pasta was "good" according to my 13 year old daughter. The service was above average and when they delivered the wrong food, they quickly rectified the situation. Had the food not been salty I would have given it a 4 star. I just think salty food is a kitchen crime.
