Let me first say that the Hotel is beautiful which carries over to the Deck 8 restaurant situated on the first floor of the hotel. We ate lunch shortly after arriving from Hamburg. To our surprise and delight, everyone spoke fairly good English at the hotel. Ordering from the menu was a bit confusing, but we managed. I ordered the beef with potatoes and my wife had a salad. This isn't the type of place we would usually eat lunch, but we were very hungry and this seemed like a safe bet. It was definitely a bit pricier than I would normally pay, but certainly worth it. My beef was cooked perfectly and the vegetable and potato sides were delicious. My wife's salad was very good as well. The strangest things about eating in Germany was the fact that they do not offer to bring you water. If you order water, it is bottled or sparkling water and is not cheap. I realize this is a cultural thing so I'm not holding it against them. Even though we did not have kids with us, I thought it was cool that they had a kids play area off to one side that was full of toys and puzzles. If I'm ever in Kiel again, I would recommend Deck 8.

Perfect starter a mustard cucumber soup (vegan) and for the main course steak with fries and a side salat. Steak cooked to perfection. Good wine choice recommended by waitress. Also the tuna with mushed wasabi-potato looked delicious and according to my company very delicious. We had a great night out with my in-laws and this needs to be repeated when back in town. The food was mediocre unfortunately, so I am not sure I should be doing this review at all. As you all know I am a big fan of the cuisine, and have traveled frequently to the Indian sub-continent itself, but given the quality of cuisine I have come to expect for this region, unfortunately, this fell far short! The portions however were ample and lasted us for two whole days after that first dinner.
