Vladimir Rachev is a freelance designer born in Bulgaria and based in Cardiff. A graduate of the MSc in product design at UWIC, the 28-year-old is fast becoming an emerging name in the field of product design. His work juxtaposes familiar experiences with unfamiliar settings to create furniture (chairs, rocking chairs, stools) a household objects (cutlery, expresso cups) as well as graphics and illustration.
He likes playing with associations and personal memories in the products that he creates such as the 'soil cutlery' he made for a brief called "Dining in 2015"in which the designer wanted to underline a social issue which might arise by that year, instead of exploring futuristic aesthetics, materials or technology. He wanted to make the cutlery a bit rustic and not too beautiful and the association with gardening tools came quickly after that. His range is startling and his vision has already got Vladimer plenty of press attention. Keep watch.
