Rachel helped me out in a way that nobody else could when I had a newborn. I was struggling when we met and she swooped in to give me the confidence I needed to keep going. She shared a schedule with me when he was around 2 months old which changed everything for the better. She has helped me with so many things: my main struggles were feeding, napping, and general care for the baby. Sometimes it just helped me to watch how she handles the baby. I always learn something new or pick up a new skill each time we are together (how to burp, give a quick bath, start solids). Rachel was the night nurse for our twin girls. She worked with us for the first 12 weeks of their lives. Rachel is very professional, highly knowledgable, punctual, reliable, and extremely trustworthy. As a new dad, I particularly appreciated Rachel's presence in our home. She stayed in the nursery overnight and attended to our girls' needs. She provided excellent guidance to my wife in the nursing realm, and helped to calm her fears when there were initial difficulties with latching (those issues only lasted a matter of days). As new parents, having a resource like her available to us to answer any questions first-time parents might have was probably the most valuable service she provided. There are so many things that you don't know or are prone to over-react to, and Rachel helped familiarize us with all the ins and outs and ups and downs of those early days. As a result of her working with the girls, they began to sleep through the night (9 hours) at about 4 months. I am convinced Rachel being with the girls throughout the night is the reason they sleep so well now (they are 20 months and sleep from 7PM-7/8AM on a regular basis). My husband likes to joke that Rachel saved our marriage - its only sort of a joke. She came to us on the stellar recommendation of two of our friends and we could not have been happier. She came two nights a week for four weeks to help with our one month old. Rachel is amazing. She is very knowledgeable about babies and a million other subjects in general. When my mom was in town, she even helped her figure out nursing care options for her sister in San Diego! For babies, she's just a natural. She is always very calm which was 100% appreciated by my husband and me with our crazy, fussy twins. She helped to feed them and calm them in the middle of the night when they were infants so we could get some much needed sleep. We used her help again when they were older, around 10 months, to fill in for a couple weeks while our daytime nanny was on her honeymoon. She was so trustworthy with them and easily able to manage 2 at once. She was better than I was at getting them out of the house to go on walks, to the park, etc. She even brought them to a store one day and had ceramic hand-prints made of their hands for me. Can you imagine feeling confident, rested, happy and knowledgable in the first weeks of motherhood? I didn't think it was possible until I had Rachel's help. She was with us for 2 months following the arrival of my daughter. Coming home from the hospital knowing a trained, professional was going to be there made the transition into motherhood so much easier. My husbands schedule was not going to allow for him to help much at night or early mornings and I knew the quickest way to send me into a postpartum meltdown was too many nights without support. Beyond the extra help so I could sleep, we learned so so so so much from Rachel. NOTE - advise on how to swaddle, soothe, and sleep train a baby is FAR better coming from a neutral party than a MIL or anyone else really. It was like having the cliff notes from all the top baby books with no reading required. She was able to determine my baby was gassy and help suggest remedies - something my doctor would not have been able to help with in the 10-20 min she spends with each chold. She knew my favorite products and would send me sales and deals. She taught us a sleeping and feeding schedule that kept us all sane (I don't think its a coincidence my daughter has been able to sleep through the night since 2 months of age) I sat at night and would review all my questions I had come up with during the day. I still reference those notes months later. My husband acts like the baby whisperer with all the tricks he learned from Rachel. Most of all she really cared about our daughter. I felt like she was genuinely happy to see my daughter every time she arrived. Now throw in bonus things like - help with baby dishes and laundry and you would think she was sent from heaven.
