Ordered wings here and it was soggy. It was strange because you can see it was tandoori style and charred wings, but then they put sauce all over it, ruining the texture of the wings. I was in this area to play golf. I was pretty hungry and came across this Indian restaurant while I was driving by. Initially I was very hesitant as I saw only a couple of cars parked outside the restaurant in their parking spot. I took a chance. I was greeted by a nice hostess who offered me any open seats to sit. I took a window seat right next to another group. This group was a group of young Hispanic boys. The way they kept doing stuff on their table looked sketchy. I will come back to their story soon. Biryani is one of my favorite dishes. It's flavored rice with any meat you want. I ordered lamb biryani as it was highly recommended by the server. They gave free pappad which was nice. Biryani was very delicious. Lots of amazing flavors and lots of meat. I definitely needed a to go container to take the rest home. Coming back to the 4 guys who were sitting next to me. While I was having my dinner, they received the check. Two of the boys walked out while the other two said they will pay in cash. The server walked away to give them some space. Remaining two quickly put some cash and walked out and I could see they jumped in the car and rushed away. When server came back and checked the payment, they had left only $20, but their bill was about $100. I did see them order a lot of stuff. I think they all had their entree and a couple of starters. I felt bad for the server. One advice is to collect the cash payment directly at the register to avoid such scenarios. read more

The hubs and I came here for lunch to partake in their AYCE lunch buffet - the dishes included: +salad and dressings +potato balls +basmati rice +veg biryani +mix veg curry +yellow dal +palak paneer +mattar mushroom +chicken tikka kabab +butter chicken +and, kheer for dessert The dishes were actually quite delicious! My favorites were the potato balls, the mattar mushroom, the chicken tikka kabab, and the butter chicken - all were so thick, creamy, and so flavorful! The hot naan that comes out was so buttery - it was soft and crispy at the same time, and amazing to scoop up the sauces with. Staff were very kind and friendly; used dishes were taken away promptly, and our water was frequently refilled. Unassuming exterior for good Indian cuisine. I loved the baignan bharta (mashed eggplant). The naan was good as well. I loved being at Raaga Restaurant with my aunt for the first time seeing and experiencing their hospitality, customer service, and great Indian food. I used to go to the Indian lunch buffet years ago when I lived with my mother in Alexandria, VA. My aunt and I came on a Friday for lunch, and there was hardly anyone inside except for the hostess and server. Fortunately, we got a table in a booth and we could easily find and experience showing my aunt the ambience and the buffet menu in front of the food items. The hostess and server told my aunt about everything that the lunch buffet has to offer, especially the vegetarian food, salad, naan, and the meats section. We got our separate plates and got our food choices, then sat down at our booth table to eat going forward. My aunt liked her food, and after we ate, she specifically said the following words to our hostess and server: "We'll definitely be back again". That ending was the highlight of my meal. Guess what though? My aunt made sure that we wouldn't eat much more besides one plate of food. I remember in my past, I would easily go for seconds and thirds. Not anymore though. That's okay though. I ordered from Raaga in the past and had a better experience than this second time. The portions were bigger the first time and had more flavor, we felt like it was so bland. Our second round lacked anything special which resulted in us getting a lot less bang for our buck. The palak chaat I tried this time was probably the worst of the ones I've tried in the falls church area (I much prefer Haandi's). The portions were much smaller this go around, the chicken/lamb pieces in the butter chicken and Rogan josh were maybe half of what we got previously. The naan wasn't anything special and the palak chaat was actually not good (soggy/really blah) so we ended up tossing it. Overall, the flavor was still good with the main dishes but for $60, I expected more food. We will stick with the our other Indian spots nearby and if you do decide to go here, avoid the palak chaat. read more

I've been to Raaga a few times over the last few years. Today, we stopped in for our staff lunch. I called at about 1230 to inform me we were arriving at 1pm and needed a table for 11 people. The lunch buffet was set up. Which contained salad, vegetable pakora, chicken tiki, rice, and fruit. It was under whelming to me. I enjoyed the chicken.. The service was average. I am so happy I finally found a great Indian restaurant! I live in Rosslyn and have been trying out DC restaurants and all were very underwhelming, taste and portion size-wise. I found this place on grubhub and for my first order, got the paneer shashlik, butter chicken, chicken tandoori, garlic naan, and mango lassi. The order came with rice, channa masala, and mint chutney. All were fantastic and portion sizes were good for multiple meals given the cost! I was truly blown away. I ordered from here again to-go last night with a similar order and it was the same excellent quality. Parking and pickup were very easy. My only wish is that they offered chicken tikka masala in addition to butter chicken! Then it would be perfect. Fantastic place, we order in from them mostly but the restaurant is lovely as well. Highly recommend the chickpeas (chana masala) as even my pickiest eater finds them delicious and will eat them at any meal. The whole family is happy when we get Raaga. The lentils are excellent as well - they often give a little extra when you order in (even if you don't order them) and it's always a treat. Butter Chicken (mild almost sweet chicken), Vindaloo (spicy!), Curry Chicken (mildly spicy), Chicken Kabobs (savory, wonderfully spiced), the Saag (spinach, with paneer or others options), the Malai Kofta (not sure I spelled that right - delicious vegetarian 'dumplings' in a sweet sauce, amazing over rice or as a contrast to the spicier options!) - Everything here is really *really* good. Reliable too - over years of ordering I don't think we've ever gotten a bad order or bad dish. If we need to impress people or make *sure* a dinner with friends goes well? It's a go to option. Nice people too! They'll call if there's any question or issue with an order (and work to make it right for you) and go out of their way to make dining in a nice experience. I used to leave near Raaga when it first opened in the 90s. At the time I did not like Indian food...or so I thought. Raaga opened my eyes to what good Indian food is and what it should taste like. Now that I live in Maryland have I found a place that serves as good food as Raaga? Sadly, no. My wife and I think of any excuse possible to go to Virginia and eat at Raaga. Dropped off at Dulles? Raaga. Swim meet in Alexandria? Raaga. Roadtrip to Norfolk? Raaga (okay maybe not that last one). Anyway, there are several dishes here that stand out...one in particular. Specifically, the Rogan Josh. We have ordered this dish at every Indian restaurant we have visited and none none none of them come close. The sauce makes you want to ask for more naan simply because you don't want it to go to waste. The lamb is ALWAYS tender and not tough or chewy. Please try this dish; you won't be disappointed. Two other dishes that really jump out for me are the Chicken Reshmi kebabs and the Lamb Seekh Kebab. Both of these are top notch and will never let you down. The service is always great and the frequent live music is fabulous. Please go to Raaga and I will just live vicariously through you until I have to make another drop off at Dulles. read more

The good: - The garlic naan: The smell was heavenly and the bread texture pillowy. I quite enjoyed this. - The samosas: The pastry was great and packed to the brim with potatoes and green peas. The others: - Unfortunately, both the Chicken Nilgiri and Chicken Kolhapuri were not that good. I think the sauces had broken, as it was thin and had very little depth in flavor. The chicken nilgiri was advertised as a lush green sauce, but nothing was really lush about it. The Chicken kolhapury was not very spicy. I couldn't taste the coconut in either dishes. Me and my wife love Indian food and this is the best deal you could ever get! They have lunch buffets on the weekends for $18 and the quality of food is excellent. We love the butter masala and the chicken tandoor! They serve also vegetarian such as paneer and chana masala. My wife was surprised that there were french fries too! We also order here for delivery when we are craving for Tikka Masala and Tandoor on the weekdays. Their service staff were great and quick. Restrooms were clean and parking is plenty outside. No spice, no heat. It was super bland. 3) lamb biryani was also bizarrely unflavorful. No hear no funk from the lamb, lacking in that delicious indian spices that you should able to smell a mile away. 4) naan was good, but I doubt it's homemade. In all, I wouldn't order again. We ordered a take out from Raaga this evening and the food was really bad. The kadai paneer had a raw taste of kasturi Methi and had had no salt. The veg korma was not edible. I am not sure how to describe the taste of the veg korma. The onion kulcha(bread) had no salt. To report the issue, we called them up, as we have ordered in the past and never had such an experience. Instead of asking what went wrong, they were rude and asked us to bring the food in at 10:15 PM, claiming they had served 200 people tonight without any issues and alleged we were making a case for fake refund!! We ordered the lamb vindaloo, baingan bharta, chana masala, palak paneer and an order of the momos. For the vindaloo we asked for extra spicy but it was still pretty mild. But as far as flavor went, everything tasted fresh and came to our place pretty quickly. My favorites out of the order was actually the chana masala and the palak paneer.
