Derek is simply the best mechanic you will ever come across. I took my mum's car to him as she…read morebelieved it needed new belts as it was making a slight squeak - he listened and initially agreed. Then as I was about to drive off he heard the noise change and called me back. Derek then explained that as the noise changed when i put the clutch in it was actually a bearing in the gearbox that was making the noise. He knows his stuff. On another occasion he, without being asked, fixed the fuel gauge on the same car. Another garage had removed the fuel tank to clean it after dirty fuel and the gauge did not work afterwards - their solution was to reset the trip clock and judge that way when re-fueling was necessary. This would not be acceptable to Derek and if he sees something that needs fixed, he fixes it!

I recently had my BMW 1-Series serviced at a garage in Bangor, the follow up report suggested that…read morethe engine had " Excessive play in the timing change", although no symptoms or diagnostics supported this report. But this could be catastrophic, if the timing chain jumps on the cogs or the actually brakes while the engine is at high revs. The garage gave me an estimated cost to replace the chain to be over £500.00. I was obviously concerned, but because I had doubts about this report I decided to get a second opinion from Johnny at Scott's Garage. Johnny took the time to do a thorough inspection of the engine, run complete computer diagnostic report, and a test drive. His conclusion was the timing chain appears to be serviceable and of no concern at this time. Johnny a competent and experienced engineer, who at short notice gave me his valuable time and honest opinion. What more do you want from your garage? I will certainly be using Scott's Garage at Dundonald for all my car repairs and servicing requirements in the future. Thank you. John Dawber Bangor Co.Down.
I'm going to sound like a complete Daddy's girl today (which isn't too far wrong to be honest...),…read morebut my dad has been impressed with Johnathan Scott since going to him with car problems three or four years ago. And he's never looked back... Scott's Garage was initially based on the Ballyregan Road, which was handy enough for us being less than ten minutes down the road. My dad took both his car and my mum's for MOT prep, for repair when he had a couple of accidents, and just general look-overs. Johnathan would always give my dad a lift home before starting work on the car, which was really lovely of him, and meant by dad didn't have to use public transport (it's been a while), or get a lift. Last year (I think...these years start to roll into one after a while), Johnathan opened up a new garage in Carrowreagh Business Park, allowing him to expand his business, and still provide the same great service. My dad has never had a complaint about him, he works incredibly hard, and offers his services are incredibly decent prices. What more could you want?!

The Motor Gym
The guys who came up with this idea are absolute geniuses, no, its not a place where your car can…read morekeep fit, well actually it sort of is, let me explain; The Motor Gym is a new concept thought up by 3 local entrepreneurs, basically they provide a safe and professional space for amateur car enthusiasts to work on their vehicles, it is just a garage without the mechanics. The customer hires out space and then is free to use the Motor Gyms tools and equipment to fix up their motorbike or car. The Motor Gym offer membership schemes for renting out the bays and equipment so you can save yourself even more money. The best thing about this place is that if you fancy yourself as a bit of a Phil or Grant Mitchell in their mechanic days you can pop down here and work on your car in relative safety instead of working in your driveway or garage and causing general annoyance to your neighbours. Also if you do not fancy doing the work yourself but like the space and the work the guys at the Motor Gym do then you can pay them to fix your vehicle. The Motor Gym is open 7 days a week and I think is an absolutely amazing idea that is sure to catch on.
Left my car in today to get an oil leak fixed. But they're didn't fix it. Wait!! Why not?!…read more They didn't fix it because it's the cam seals (whatever they are) that are leaking. And it's a big job to fix. At least £350. So, why didn't they fix it? After phoning me and explaining, they recommended that, if I can persevere until the timing belt needs changed then it would be better to do the two jobs at once. I appreciated their honesty. They could have easily told me it needed sorted right now, and then I'd need a timing belt at another time. I know nothing about cars other than that they cost money!! So, I'd recommend them simply and purely for their honesty. They did not charge a penny for looking and finding the leak either! A thumbs up from me
