I was REALLY WISHING That I could leave a 5 star review, but unfortunately, if I could leave less than one star, I would. My wife and I are over the road team truck drivers. She's a damn Yankee from Connecticut. I'm a pure bred white boy hillbilly from Tennessee, now living in Texas. We bought their product, specifically a package of four slices of smoked country ham, totaling $26.73 We ended up giving almost all of this product to our dogs because it was so tough and chewy that we couldn't ingest it, let alone eat it. I hope that my dogs survive! I'm not sure of the process that this iconic company uses, but I'll NEVER spend my money on anything that this company makes if it is even close to the non quality that these four slices cost us especially since it literally was non edible. As I said, I'm a country boy and have eaten and enjoyed country smoked ham all of my life. This product is pure garbage and a waste of my money. On the bright side, after ingesting this crap, I can only hope that my dog's can take a good shit in the morning, and not have bowel obstructions. read more

Came in super excited for some classic country ham on Christmas Day... only to find my portion literally crawling with disappointment. The ham had lard beetles. Yes, actual little beetles crawling in the fat like they owned the place. Opened the package fresh on 12/25/25 and immediately regretted it. Taste? Ruined. Appetite? Gone. Christmas vibes? I drove up from Lakeland, FL 12/30/25 to shop as recommended by a longtime Felt's customer. I arrived within the company hours posted, and the shop was closed. I placed a phone call and only got voicemail message that they were closed. Very disappointed! I made a second attempt to shop 1/2/26 and arrived within the hours posted and again, the shop was closed. Another phone call was again, just voicemail stating "we may be on another line". I waited a while, killing time at the Furniture Store just immediately north of the Packing Co. Still not able to get into the Felt's store. I came back to Florida disappointed. The old-time customer in his late 80's and I 80yrs old both grew up in the Norfolk, Chesapeake area with family living in Suffolk, Va Beach and Chesapeake. Hard not to love Felts if you love bacon or country ham. I love going into the packing house and the smell of smoked meats and salt is heavy in the air. Caution: Felts sells skin on slab bacon, whole or sometimes half country hams, and smoked jowls...and that's all. And believe you me, that is what you want. The hams are true old-school "smithfield" or "country" style Virginia hams: dry cured in salt and smoked on premise. Here is a great hint: when you go to down Rt. 460 to get a ham, stop in Adams Peanut's down the road and have Mr. Adams slice you a ham sandwich for 3.00 bucks--it is a Felts ham and a wonderful preview of what you can expect from your new purchase. The guys at Felts will slice your bacon, ham, or jowl on request--don't hesitate to use that service, as well as their new vacuum sealer. And for the uninitiated, GET SOME JOWL: BACON!!. It is amazing stuff on its own and works as a great substitute for hipster overpriced guanciale.... Felts is one of those places that you have to find...and be willing to take a chance to walk in. RM Felts has the best country hams and country ham products to be found anywhere. They are whole, skin on, hams with the shank and have not been dressed so they do require some preparation before you cook them. I recommend having them cut the end (shank] off and then in half. So you get 2 hams and a shank for about the same you'd pay for a half a Smithfield brands ham. If you've never prepared a country ham do some research bit if you prepare it properly you will not be disappointed. read more

We were there in August 2017 and Purchased a ham and 1/2 slab of bacon. Big mistake I should have purchased a whole slab of bacon. This is the best country ham and bacon I have ever had bar none. The friendly staff there sliced and vacuum packed it for me. If you like country ham and cured bacon you can't go wrong here. Plan on having them ship me some more to Florida soon. on recent trips to Virginia my daughter took me across the Chesapeake Bay bridge from Va Beach and we found R M Felts bacon in a stand on the side of the road and bought some and brought it home. I fell in love with the bacon and on my last visit i bought three bags of bacon and took it back home to California . i found that it is wey salty if sliced and cooked as is , i sliced it on my food slicer and trimmed off the skin , then put the slices in a pan of water and boiled for five minutes and then drained , after that i fried it and it was the most wonderful bacon ever. just need to judge how salty you want your bacon.. i soaked some for long time and lost flavor so dont soak for more than an hour ,,this is good stuff and i wish it was here in Cali ,, read more

We are told that their arrival can be cause for some great parties and a bit of America not easily found around the world. We received a country ham for Christmas...it has a very chemical taste. Probably the worst ham ever.

I am sure that I have " NO IDEA" what a good smoked Virginia Ham is supposed to be because my daughter purchased a 9.1 lb "Oldtime-Dry Cure" in cloth bag as a gift for my birthday. I opened the bag, removed the ham and ATTEMPTED to slice it with a searated profession; very sharp butcher knife! 70% of the product was either rind, grissle or bone. We finally HACKED some of the meat off and tried to eat it. I have eaten in survival school ,shoe leather softened in hot water that was more easily chewed. It was also SO SALTY that even if I use it is soup stock the ending soup will be too salty to eat. I can not even feed it to my dogs since they gulp items that they can not chew and even pigs ears can and are chewed! I will be calling them and regardless of the 4 star rate on this site from JR C. I would not only never buy another of their products but advise EVERYONE I SPEAK TO to be sure to eat some samples in their store outlets before buying as with todays food costs this tough old hog might not have even qualified to be ground up for additional hog slop! read more

We bought a slab of bacon when we were back East in mid June. This was the worst ever! Had the doors open, smoke everywhere, both of us gagging from cooking this bacon! There was little to no meat & was all fat. Threw out everything as we tried only what looked like edible portions, which they weren't. Have never experienced anything like it!
