Quixote is a very unique winery! The history of the property and building is fascinating not to mention how they got the artwork for their label. We had a private tasting with Patty over the Columbus Day weekend and she was knowledgable about the wine she was offering us and the property itself. She even had a limited release wine opened for a previous guest and offered some of that for us to try as well. Definitely worth a visit! read more

This quaint estate winery has such an incredible and unpretentious feel. It's as if you're in nature at a family home. It is not manicured to perfection-it's a real place and I love that vibe! The architecture is not the norm for Napa wineries, rather has a Portugal aesthetic. We had a tasting scheduled and we were sat in the main room at the long table under the dome - beautiful! Our host was most kind and knowledgeable and we even discussed art and travel and restaurant gems we love in the city, with her. I don't remember her name, unfortunately, as it was our 3rd winery of the day. As for the wine, incredible! It is affiliated with and right next door to Stags Leap, but this is no Stags Leap in the slightest. I'd call it the humble reserve of Stags Leap if I had to classify it, but it is so so much more than that. Each red we tasted had a depth and beauty to it that I haven't had in a wine, in quite some time. Nothing was too bold or too anything really, just simply great wine. Of course we bought some of each red we tried and they will each be special bottles. (Hopefully our friends that just moved here to Napa become members or will bring us back next time we visit from SF.) A great place to escape the crowds to enjoy great wine and nature. read more

I can't begin to say enough good things about this winery. We had an amazing experience here! Robbie, one of the wine makers gave us a tour of the barrel room and spent our entire tasting with us, going over in detail each wine we tasted. The wines were paired with a tasty cheese tray which were perfect with the wines. Each wine we tasted was phenomenal. The 2018 Cab was by far our favorite. Best wine I've had at Napa. I have not found many places that had Malbecs, but this place specializes in it. Everything I had here was delicious. They only take one or two groups at a time so you do have to book in advance. Also, it's a hidden winery off of Silverado trail but this is truly a gem. The Malbec and Petite Syrahs here made my fiancée and I consider getting a membership. Check this gem out! read more

Quixote is one of our favorites. We found this quaint winery a few years ago as part of a private tour that we arranged to find some wineries off the beaten path. We were looking for some great Sirah and Cabs and this does not disappoint. The decor is a bit eccentric, but the staff and tastings cant be passed up. Lynn will take great care of you, walk you through the history and vintages and ensure you are able to taste all that you can. Covid regulations are in place these days with small groups all getting their own room or outside but honestly it didn't seem that different from non-Covid times IMO. Appreciate a winery that isn't in a rush, isn't crammed with people, and staff that is willing to pull out a coravin and allow customers to taste what suits their palate, even if its not part of the tasting. If you are like us, and over multiple tastings per day in crowded wineries this is your spot. Great wine and great people. read more

Working fall harvest here with a renowned winemaker, who is also the consulting winemaker for Quixote. The winery itself is nestled up against the mountains, in the Stags leap District, right next door to Stags Leap Winery and Shafer. The vineyards are sustainably farmed and the winery itself is still family owned and operated. The winery's unique architecture alone is worth the visit, with a distinct Moroccan style and amazing hand cut tiles. The petite syrah (terrific) and cab are a nice side benefit! We spent time punching down some caps, cleaning equipment, squeegeeing floors - the usual. Arrived just in time to miss fruit sorting (whew), but had the privilege of tasting through the entire portfolio as well as the upcoming release through the week. The evolution is amazing. They make some amazing wines here - and do so in a very relaxing and refreshing environment. For sure the 2013 is going to be fantastic! read more

Great wines - horrible customer service. Felt rushed throughout the tasting on a Saturday. We did a tour and tasting. During the tasting, didn't even have a second to speak with the people you were with. Was enjoying the wines and got asked if we wanted a bucket to pour the remaining wine out into, just to move things along, even though we paid for an hour and a half and it wasn't at time yet. Not worth the money at all!!! read more

Yeah - only 3 stars. Two stars for the wine - one tossed in simply because of the architecture and overall experience. BUT - let me preface this review by saying that I had such a good time here. I was here with 4 good friends, and it's just one of those thing you are glad you did... blazes itself in your memory. Quixote Winery is a bit hard to find. It's off of Silverado Trail but there is only a post with the number on it - - no signage at all. Once you figure this out, you drive up a long driveway, curvy - and then you finally arrive on the property. Architecturally, it's a very interesting building with impressive landscaping. Built by Hundertwasser, and supposedly his very last project, too - the building is unusual, rather Picasso-style, which in my book, means that a child with colorful clay COULD have built this place. But it is actually tasteful, and it is unique. Not having everything symmetrical was his whole point, being free in expression, and extremely colorful. The story goes that when he saw the final outcome, the owner said that was it was perfect. Hundertwasser looked at the building, entered, took a hammer and smashed a pillar, cracking it, and said, "Now it's perfect." It's an appointment only winery - - and there is a short tour with history. It turns out that this is owned by the original owner of Stag's Leap Winery. After he sold that, he decided to open up a winery in which he can make wine the way he always intended to, and hoped to do, before Stag's Leap had become such a huge business. Therefore, he kept this portion of land and built Quixote Winery on it. Interesting fact #1 is that all bottles here are screw top. I actually don't mind. Interesting fact #2 is that their shining star is a Petite Sirah - - not a Cab, not even a regular Syrah, but a Petite Sirah. No whites made here. NONE. Interesting, and totally unrelated fact #3: did you know that 86% of wine is consumed on the day it is purchased? Thought still a young winery - - they have 2 lines here. Quixote, their premium line, and Panza, their secondary line. The lady who gave us a tour informed us that they are trying to combine the lines more, as they had 2 Cabs, 2 Petite Sirah, 2 of everything. In the future, they will only have one of most varieties, but strangely enough, most of them under the Panza label. First off, the label is heinous. Second - - the Quixote label, also designed by Hundertwasser, is actually quite attractive. Why they would choose to produce more wine under Panza, I do not know. Having said that - - I had an enjoyable time on this tour. Six of us on this tour were seated in a private room with an outdoor patio overlooking the grounds and served up 5 varietals, and their Syrah added in at the end because I requested a tasting. The lady was really nice, pleasant, and knew her history, but in all honesty, I have NEVER seen anyone drink along with us during the tastings. That was pretty cool. All of us ended up buying a bottle of the Petit Sirah at $60 each.... it was pretty interesting. All the other wines fell flat at the end, there was no depth to the wine, and it would start off like it would explode - - only to die a quick death at the back of the mouth. Very bizarre. The Syrah did the same thing -- but after breathing for a bit, it improved a lot. The other bottles had already been opened prior to our arrival, so I am not sure what was happening there. Their Panza table wine was actually better than the Cabernet. Now even though the wines themselves were not as impressive to me as, say, Joseph Phelps, Opus One, or Cakebread - - I would definitely recommend going here for the experience of the tour itself. Very interesting architecture, and the place is built like it's someone private home, and you're simply in their dining room sipping on wine. It was a lot of fun, and the lady staff there (whose name I have forgotten) was very hospitable. $25 per person for the tour - - - and when you make reservations, they charge you BEFORE you arrive. Don't come here for the wine. Come here for the AMAZING architecture. This building is just amazing. The surroundings are surreal. And they allow you to walk the grounds... and maybe venture to the roof (though ... technically you aren't allowed to but what they don't see -- they don't know). I had no blow away experiences with the wine. The staff is OK, but like most wine people they just talk the talk ... and sometimes it's just a little saturated with BS. But whatever. The Hundertwasser building just takes your breath away. I highly recommend the tour. You will even be amazed with their bathrooms. I know that sounds ridiculous but it's true. The artwork inside the building just blows your mind. It's so beautifully put together. As for GPS, someone mentioned it's hard to find - it is a bit. My droid led me to the side of the road, just go down the road and kind of keep forking left. Worth the tour, but the wine itself... whatever. Nothing was distinct. But I did enjoy sitting out on the porch. But I enjoyed venturing my way to the roof a bit more. read more

Hands down my favorite winery that we visited in Napa!! We took the tour + tasting and enjoyed the story of how the winery was started and the eccentric owner and designer behind the crazy building. It reminds you of Barcelona, it is unique and beautiful. We enjoyed two glasses while doing the tour and while the tour doesn't last very long, we learned a lot. This is more of a craft winery so its small batches and limited runs that cannot be bought in stores. YOU MUST MAKE RESERVATIONS!!! They have a crazy permit that only allows them to have a certain number of guests on the premises so if you just happened to drive up they have to turn you away. Blame the county... In the tasting room we tried several different wines and they leave you alone to enjoy it and then come back and discuss it a little bit. Interesting, I kind of liked it. The cheese was really good and brought out the flavors quite well. We loved the 2010 petite syrah and bought a bottle. It was really interesting to taste the same wine from two different years and taste how different they are. I am by no means a wine expert so I found this fascinating. I feel that this was the best wine I tasted while in Napa. The depth of flavor and smoothness are really wonderful and things I want in a good wine. This place isn't cheap, we were really lucky to have a family member who is part of the wine club so we got discounts on everything. Be sure to come visit, you will be glad you did. read more

I was here last summer and still remember clearly how wonderful it was driving down to this little winery. You will need to call for the Hundertwasser wine tour. This artist's/architect's work is total whimsy. The colors, shapes, playfulness on the walls and the columns are just plain fun and amazingly different. The tour will tell some of the stories between the owner of the winery and Hundertwasser. The owner seeked out the artist because wine is supposed to be about fun after all! This is the only work of Hundertwasser you will see in all of North America and it is his last work before he died. My wife's coworker recommended this winery. We called and made a reservation the same day for a tasting. While the wines were between $50 and $130 a bottle, some of them were actually pretty good. I have been to wineries were despite pretty highs price tag, the wines were blah. The whole visit was very relaxing. The winery itself is very nice( it was as we were in Barcelona). Ended up getting a couple of bottles and the tasting fees were waved. Beautiful winery, pricey but nice wines, relaxing setting. What else can you ask for? read more

Nothing like the large wineries at all, you can see that's going on from the vinyard, to the barrel room, and the huge stainless steel tanks. The architecture is absolutely incredible. In fact, it's so remarkable that it somewhat eclipsed the wines. The property was nothing short of magic. The wines are quality, Petite Sirah being the highlight over the Cab, but somehow I was expecting the wines to really be something I would want in abundance because they are near impossible to acquire outside the winery. Anyways, they also need to hire a hospitality manager or some really good estate ambassadors. The story of the place needs to be better explained. Had some time to kill before our next wine appointment, so we were recommended by our next place (Jessup Cellars) to visit this winery because they had cancelations and had free space for our group. My party drove over and were greeted warmly by Mike, who greeted us by name, knowing we were coming. We were never made aware of their tasting fee or that we were going to have to pay for anything. There was no price listing and Mike went straight to pouring us wine. He then offered to take us on a walking tour of the winery (once again did not make us aware of any sort of cost or warning of we had to pay something); we simply assumed we were guests of Jessup Cellars and were bringing them business. Mike was very informative and kind. We got 3 different wine pours (rose, cab and petit Sarah). We came back into the office, Mike knowing we had an appointment at Jessup, and sat us down for a tasting of the Petit Sarah's they had. I enjoyed all the wines, but a little too pricey for my blood at the time, so got the cheaper rose (which was an amazing first pour). He then came back saying how many tastings I was paying for. I was shocked, assuming we were guests and I bought a bottle a wine we would have the tasting fee waived. My party and myself left disappointed and did not expect that we had the pay the full tasting fee, since it wasn't told to us in the beginning. It was very unfortunate, since I was having a great experience that this had to ruin the mood. Please make it known to your future patrons what the fees are, so they are not surprised and put off guard. Final note: my mom did ask our pourer/guide if he could wave one tasting since I bought a bottle and he said it would have had to be a case. For starters, finding it was not as easy as preferred. Had we been driving around a few days, I have a hunch we would have seen it a view times off the Silverado Trail, but it was our first day and our trusty navigation took us left on Silverado when we needed to go right. Google Maps was far more accurate. Once there, it's really fun to see the building. Sort of a cross between a winery designed by Dr. Seuss and the Partridge Family. Really loved the design and character. The guys working there are very nice and knowledgable. We took a tour and had a tasting. Overall, we found their wines okay but not incredible. As with Hall, I think their reds are complex and above our still learning taste. And the prices are $80 and above. We gladly paid our tasting and tour fees and headed on out after a very nice time. read more

However, good first impression did not last long into the tasting. While all wine are approachable, they really lack any personality. Not bad, just blah. 2001 Panza Cabernet Sauvignon Dark cassis, black licroice, soft oak, and bay leaf aromatic lures you in. But what's so attractive on the nose did not fully translate onto the palate. Medium fruit, grainy tannin, lacking depth and complexity with medium-short finish. 2004 Panza Syrah Lush beautiful black fruits. Lots of Bing cherries, black plum on the nose. Also not showing as much as expected on the palate. 2002 Quixote Petite Syrah Soft nose, minty cherry. Touch sour, may not be the freshest bottle. 2002 Panza Petite Syrah Purple, perfumed dark fruits and blackberry liquor. Nice entry but not much mid-palate. A fairly light PS by Napa standards. 2003 Quixote Petite Syrah Firm but well integrated tannin. Creamy dark fruits. May be the best wine in the line-up, which doesn't say a whole lot. read more

I don't write reviews, but I came to Quixote yesterday for my birthday, and it was important for me to write this one. Lynn the Estate Host took such exceptional care of me and my 5 friends, and we had our own tour where she dedicated a full 1.5-2 hours of providing ample history of the estate, winery, and production process. The actual tasting element of the tour was impeccable with such aesthetic and perfect placement of cheese and herbs and fruit on the platter and ample pours for 6 + wines. I highly highly highly recommend Quixote and will definitely come back. The plot of land is stunning, the estate architecture is fascinating, and the overall experience was my favorite in Napa/Sonoma thus far. Will try to post pictures of our tour as well. read more

I came away from this wine tasting experience with two impressions-- 1)all the people there want is money 2) they take way more guests than they can handle I called about two weeks ago to make a tasting appointment for myself, my parents and my grandma. She only drinks white wine, so the real reason she wanted to go here was for the architecture. Ann answered the phone at the winery and she told me I did not need to make a tasting appointment and to stop by anytime. I asked about a tour and Ann told me they would talk about the art and architecture during the tasting. Again, the real reason we were going to visit this winery was to learn about the building, not for the wine. We walked into the winery at 1pm on Saturday. Now, I know that midday Saturday any winery is going to be crowded, but it was obvious as we walked in that the winery was above capacity. Ann had to get seats from the office to put in the tasting room so the couple that arrived after us would be able to sit down. The wines were okay, not bad but not great. But they were SO pushy! Once they had poured the second wine and nothing had been mentioned about the art, I asked if they had any informattion they could share with us. Rene (an owner??) said he would see if he had any books left (for sale!) about the winery. Well instead he came back with a semi-offensive piece of hunderwasser art. "I couldn't find the book, but I found this. We're selling it for $2000" he said. Needless to say, we weren't interested in a penis picture. When we finished the tastings (4 reds, so my grandma just sat there and didn't taste). For a $20 tasting fee, we got mediocre wine with NO information about the wine. Rene would even leave the room after he poured each wine so we couldn't even ask questions! Bad service. Finally, when we finished the tasting and we had decided not to purchase anything, Rene came up and asked "so are you going to buy anything?" not only did it make me feel uncomfortable, but did he really think he worked hard enough to earn a sale? No way! I work with wineries, and I know it is all about service. The lack of service here was glaring. All in all, totally disappointing. You won't be missing anything if you miss this winery. read more

Quixote Winery was recommended to us by the wine steward at Silver Oaks. My friend wanted to visit a place that has Petit Sirah--I have never been a fan of Syrahs and she insisted that this was completely different. Quixote is by reservations only, I called over to see if they have any touring/tasting availability that day. They told us that we could come in half an hour, around 1:15pm. We put the address in our navigation system and it said we would be there in ten minutes. Once again, our trusted GPS took us to the wrong place. I had to call and get directions, the guy that took our reservation laughed. The winery was tucked away but we finally found it 15 minutes later. The architecture was so unique walking up! We were greeted at the desk and meet by the wine steward. He took us on a tour of the vineyard and told us the history of how Quixote was designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser--in general, I am OCD about straight lines and symmetry but I love that it was visually interesting...the colors, patterns, and no two windows were alike. It's a small vineyard and they only produce like 300 cases a year. He showed us the "nap room" where the wine in barrels were kept, it was cool inside and smell of oak--I definitely could sleep in there. After the tour, we went out to the patio for our tasting. For $45 we got to taste a Cabernet Sauvignon and two Petite Sirah which was paired with two different cheeses. The Petite Sirah was amazing and it seemed to get better with age. I even preferred it over the Cabernet. That's shocking! I ended up buying a bottle of the 2002 Petit Sirah to be shipped to my home, it was expensive but worth it--maybe we'll have it for my 30th birthday. The staff is amazing at Quixote and its a very intimate setting for wine tasting. So charming!!! I highly, highly recommend Quixote Winery. Such good finds that day! read more

4 stars for the architecture designed by Hundertwasser - colorful and whimsical = like gaudi with a light touch perhaps. Lots of fine details - the wonderful wood floor in the tasting room and by all means do not miss the bathroom with a great tiled shower and tile framed mirror. even the loading dock is artful. I'm sorry, I'm just not a big wine fan - or maybe I just didn't like theirs very much. In any case I pored most of my wine into the dump bowl on the table. I couldn't wait to get the tasting over with so I could look at the buildings. We had a fun time once we found the place. read more

Good wine, excellent architecture, landscape and artwork, accessible people, a marvelous find for anyone who is a Hundertwasser fan. Coming at mid-November made for a casual environment. The small post-harvest crew was performing the final press and barreling for the 2009 harvest. Anne was gracious with our questions and patient as our attention diverted from the gorgeous architecture, art and history to the winemaking in action. Tim took time to answer our questions between his winemaking duties. Alexandra only two days in provided a depth of industry wine knowledge to supplement the main tour. The wines were good but coming off the end of a cold and a very naive palette you'll have to rely on the other reviews here. I enjoyed every wine in the lineup. It is my understanding that they will be going 100% Petite Syrah very soon. More experienced wine-goers may not be as impressed but overall for a newcomer to experience a small winery like this makes for a small treasure of an experience.
