Three years ago when I was working on a project in Boston, I managed to review every single MBTA…read morestation on the network and a dozen or so Commuter Rail stations. Yes, really. See https://www.yelp.com/collection/x7SzKBNR0-KMcdx25mXSFw. The one exception was Wollaston Station because it was closed for remodeling. Well, it's back open since 2019 and I'm back in Boston, so I need to cross this hanging chad off my list. Serving the Wollaston neighborhood of South Boston. This was part of the first section of the South Shore line, under construction since 1966, opened on September 1, 1971, branching from the original Red Line at a flying junction north of Columbia (now JFK/UMass). It ran along the west side of the Old Colony rail right-of-way (which has since been reduced to one track), crossing to the east side north of Savin Hill. The northernmost station was North Quincy, with others at Wollaston and Quincy Center. The station is modern with the usual turnstiles and ticketing kiosks in the lobby. It is now handicapped accessible with ramps and an elevator. It is above ground and somewhat exposed to the elements so you'll be wearing your coat in the winter for sure. Wollaston is on the Braintree branch of the Red Line between North Quincy (inbound toward Alewife) and Quincy Center (outbound toward Braintree). It is an island platform which means that the doors will open on the left. [Review 15215 overall, 717 of 2021, number 1078 in Massachusetts.]

I was in town to support my friends at the Boston Marathon. I stayed in Quincy to save some money…read more I came through this station for the majority of the trip. Although the platform was open, exposing you to the weather, they do have areas where you can take shelter while waiting for the next train. There were a couple of restaurant options across the street on Brook St and nearby Hancock St. I was able to grab lunch or dinner before heading back to my hotel.
