While I can't say that my visit to Asheville Cotton was the most fun I've ever had, I was just blown away by the sheer variety of fabrics they had. There are around a dozen tightly-packed aisles, each one with shelves simply jam-packed with different varieties of fabrics, all with different prints. I imagine it would be a quilter's dream. I've got no occasion to be inspecting or looking for fabric of any sort, but I still found myself ooh-ing and aah-ing at the sheer variety offered here. They also sell sewing and embroidery machines. I knew they could be expensive, but did you know that a full-featured sewing and embroidery machine for home use can run $12,000? Neither did I. The employees were very kind and helpful, and let you go about your browsing without tapping you on the shoulder every three minutes to ask if you need help finding something. Unfortunately I can't comment on the relative value of the place, as I have no frame of reference for what fabrics can or should cost. There were also a bunch of awesome quilts hanging around the place, which were part of a voting contest that we got to weigh in on as we checked out. They were taking votes for overall winner, as well as a subset of five quilts made by first-time quilters going for a type of "Rookie" award. It was a fun little way to finish up a shopping excursion I was dreading, but ended up secretly enjoying.

The staff is vivacious and warm and make you feel right at home the minute you enter. There was a ferocious guard dog who slept through our visit and occasionally opened an eye to see who might have slipped in during his slumber. No threat at all. The only reason I only gave four stars is because I didn't actually make a purchase and wasn't actively looking for anything in particular. Weaverville is a long way from my stomping grounds but if I'm ever in the area again, I will make sure I allot enough time to check in and browse.

They also have a great section for miscellaneous items in large bins that go based off the weight of the items. The store has foam and a large selection of fabric for upholstery. I took away one star because it seems like the only fabrics they don't really have, minus a couple, are fabrics for apparel. I would love it if they had linens, muslins, and other clothing/fashion fabrics, since no one in the area carries them besides Hobby Lobby, and they don't have much either. Now that Joann's is closed, there's nowhere to shop for good quality clothing fabrics. It could be great for business if someone started selling them. As for some of the reviews about the rudeness of the workers: I mean yeah I can see that, but if you smile at them and are nice, they usually reciprocate the actions. They're little old ladies, so go easy on them and show grace.

The owner is incredibly sweet and has the cutest dog who greets you as you enter(he's very sweet and doesn't bark or bite.) I love the aesthetic of the store. Nothing is too organized and you can pick up and look at everything! The atmosphere is quiet and laid back. It's really nice to see the immense age difference in all their selection. The owner seems to like sheep as there are many stuffed animal sheep lying around and some yard statues outside. It's a sweet place that it's easy to spend hours lost in.
