I will start by saying, I am a mixed (black white and Asian) person with a shaved head, and tattoos…read moreon my face and I work for a small business. Anyone from this century knows this isn't a telling sign of anything other than that I'm a millennial. I walked into money tree (Silverdale Location), last Sunday as it was my 7 year wedding anniversary and I got paid that day. Banks were closed etc. I hadn't been there in a few years, so I called in and asked if they cash written checks, she replied with, "Yes! We try to cash every check brought to us." Drove straight there, brought my ID, Paycheck AND paystub in with me and presented my paycheck and ID first. SHANNON, Manager since 2000. Looked at both, asked if my ID (renewed 2 months ago) had my current address and Last name. (Same as the one on the paycheck) I said yes. She then proceeded to ask me for my paystub. And then my Social security number Then my phone number Then she said she needed to verify that my place of work was a real business. I (now starting to feel profiled) told her to Google it. She did. Then called my work. Confirmed that I do in fact work there. But because the person that answered wasn't my direct boss, that wasn't enough. By now my husband has entered the building because I'm taking longer than anyone should and asks, "What's your policy on check cashing?" She said, "we don't have one. Everything is done under my discretion." He responded with, "so you're choosing to single out my wife right now, even though she's been more than accommodating?" She replied, "yes." I then got my ID and check, said "this is some racist shit!" And step out to call my boss. In tears, I tell her what's going on and my boss immediately called Moneytree and speaks to LYNETTE, the other woman working and witnessing all of this. She hands the phone to SHANNON and I walk up to her counter area because clearly I'm not Ms. Shannon's type of person. She looks and me and goes, "you need to go back to Shannon." And I did my "holy shit I'm frustrated" laugh and went back to SHANNON. .SHANNON, now speaking with my boss told her that she needed to be at the location in order to verify that I work there. My boss instead offered to give my check information and SHANNON finally agreed. (Remember when she said she had to be AT the location?) Verified all the way down to the amount I was owed, and finally ended up cashing my check. I don't know if it was my skin, the hoodie I had on or the size of the paycheck. But I know what it feels like to be profiled, and it feels like this. Needless to say, I'll never go back to that place.

I went into this store to see if they could help and I had Lynnette. She listened, understood and was quick to come up solutions. Sadly NetSpend was being difficult and it took almost an hour to resolve but the whole time Lynnette was So patient, kind and knowledgeable. I even went out the store hours but she kept calm and didn't make me feel like a bother, she was empathetic and wanted it fixed for me. On top of it, I have a severely autistic son who was antsy. He was loudly humming and skipping around, they Never gave him a weird look or rolled eyes. Lynnette is very rare in customer service nowadays and deserves high praise for her composure and knowledge.

I have to strongly recommend that others not use this branch…read more My first experience with this branch of OlyFed at 8300 Quinault Dr. NE Lacey, Wa. 98516: I came in to change the address on my joint account which I have with my husband. I was told by the teller that I had to remove my sunshades, so he could verify my photo ID. I asked him if that was really necessary. He gave some explanation that I was new to the bank. I told him that I already had an account and that I was just changing the address on the account. In the end, I removed my shades. My second experience was when I went in with my husband to withdraw some money from this branch. We dealt with a female teller this time. She repeatedly asked us what the money (our money) was being used for. We both felt like we were under interrogation and tried to change the subject each time she asked. My next visit was to cash a small check in my name. I gave my photo ID and account information. The transaction went smoothly. On the same day, I came back in to cash a check on a joint account in a different state. The 'greeting' from the same female teller was, "Back again?" She repeatedly asked me whether my husband was with me, to which I answered each time, no, he was busy at home. She also asked if my husband knew that I had written the check. I said, "I have the authority to write this check. It is a joint checking account." She informed me that she would have to call my husband to have him verify that I could cash the check. I told her that we have one cell phone and, when I leave the house, I always take the phone in case I need to call roadside assistance. Again, I stated that the check I was trying to cash was from a joint account. I told her I had cashed checks from this account at other OlyFed branches without problem. She said she would have to get the manager. I stated that I have had the out-of-state joint account for over 20 years, and we had a joint account at OlyFed. She went and got an assistant manager. After receiving similar responses from him, I took the check and left. It was as though I was being accused of a crime. Does a woman need to get her husband's permission to cash a check from a joint account? I had obtained a ride from a friend and had to get my friend to drive me back home to where my husband was trying to fix our car, then drive us back to the bank. When I returned to the bank with my husband, we went to the assistant manager. My husband didn't identify himself. He simply told the assistant manager that I had the authority to write that check and did not need his permission because it was a joint account. We were told, "We can cash it now." Now, the assistant manager was willing to cash the check. I said, "No, you won't. Since I had been required to return home to fetch my husband, I got cash for the business I needed to handle." When I told the assistant manager that I had enough because I received nothing but problems each time I used this branch and that I wasn't going to use that branch any more and I might even take my money out of OlyFed because of the unacceptable behavior at this branch, he told me "Have a nice day." When you know customers are insulted and angry, saying "Have a nice day." is more than just inappropriate, it adds insult on top of insult.

Hands down, bar none, this bank is THE worst banking experience i have ever encountered. From…read moreexceedingly lengthy times for funds to transfer in and out, to fees for every single transaction made, to losing four [4] direct deposit payroll checks, when they have the sender and receiver accounts at same bank, at same branch. Each time that happened, i called and called. No follow thru. I had to go in to the bank, reiterate the issue, and after about 20 minutes they would locate the problem and send me back to my employer for a second check be drafted. Who has time for all that? Total nightmare. So i closed my account with them and opened one elsewhere thinking this is the answer. However because my employer still banks with them,i cannot get away from dealing with them.. And payroll landed in between closing ny account and the new bank being funded via direct deposit. So today i went in with a physical check ala a live check, and this branch will not cash a live check in person drawn from an account at their branch. When the account is my employer, definitely funded and im in person.. outrageous really. Never have had a bank not honor their own checks like this. And then, when i deposited through my own bank elsewhere, normally a 24 hour transaction for funds to be received, Homestreet places an additional seven (7) day hold before authorizing this payroll check to be sent over. I can only share my experience in hopes it saves anyone else from having such ridiculous financial experiences. Personally, it was unreal, i do not know if the ineptness comes from management, mistraining, or what .... but this bank outright sucks! Go to Obee, go to Key, bank of america, absolutely any and every other bank does a better job..
