When I posted a photo of this bridge online, people actually thought I was abroad. Perhaps it's because this bridge is now painted RED. Like Golden Gate in San Francisco. I have no idea when exactly this bridge had this marvellous, sexy transformation, as I've always passed here back in 2007 to 2011 and it was all gray and bland.
If you ignore the smells (unfortunately, there are people who use some parts of this bridge as a toilet), this place can actually be pretty nice and even romantic (heh!) for taking walks, getting a view of Pasig River and spotting ferries. While you're here, you can either get a dose of history and take a gander around the once majestic Metropolitan Theater that boasts of intricate, art deco elements. It's just by the foot of the bridge, beside Arroceros Park.
And, if you go further along until the bridge, this will lead you to Quiapo! It's definitely among my favorite places in Manila. If you want to soak up some local culture (and sweat, lots of it--some not even necessarily your own), cheap food, and cheap finds, this nitty-gritty district is a requirement. read more
