As I was dropping off stuff to the Salvation Army, I spied this little nugget across the street…read more Drive thru michelada? Too good to be true. And indeed it was. You can't really drive through to get a michelada with beer inside... but you can drive through to get a Clamato Preparado with a beer ON the side. So I bought one of those suckers ($8?) and was about to drive off when something caught my eye. Smirnoff Preparada. What the heck? Turns out an SP is a 20 oz smirnoff icce, with gummy bears, chamoy and chile inside the beverage. Then on TOP of the beverage, more gummy bears, chamoy and chile. Obviously I had to get one. It tasted like sh... nothing good but the gummy bear chamoy concoction on top was delicious. All of these things are an acquired taste of course so feel free to experience this madness on your own.

Tex Best is a very nice travel stop. They have fuel, hot…read morefood, cold drinks, coffee, and other convenience store items. There is even deer corn for hunters. They have fuel for both cars and 18 wheelers. I was hungry, so I ordered two tacos for $8 and some change. They were pretty good. They also have fried chicken, fried "burritos", chimichangas, hamburgers, pizza and more. The soda fountain includes several flavors of "aguas frescas" but are artificially flavored, the iced tea is fresh brewed. Bathrooms are clean and nice. The fuel prices are about 20 cents higher than in town. At least today. Overall, it's a nice place to stop for good food choices and road trip supplies.

I am about to turn 66 and, until today, I have never run out of gas. I saw the travel center in…read morethe rear view mirror of my stranded vehicle and called. The manager, Christy, was off-duty, but drove over with a gallon of gas to save me. She not only rescued me, but she actually put the gas in my truck and guided me back to the gas station. She refused to let me pay her anything. She was a true angel.
