Punks (and punks at heart) unite to visit Queen Anne's Square, a gorgeous park right smack dab in the center of downtown Newport! Ahem. This USED to be the hangout for the Newport punk scene in the early 2000's, and while they're LONG gone, I still try to keep that "park rat" spirit alive!
The park's been here for a long time throughout Newport's history, but was formally dedicated in the 1970's with a visit from Queen Elizabeth herself! No word on if the famous corgis accompanied her, but nonetheless, dogs will be happy frolicking around the vast greenery and pastoral puppy friendly surroundings. No pets? No problem! Take a seat on one of the benches or stretch out in the sun on the grass for the best people watching location in town! It's also a lovely oasis away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. True, it's just steps to the crowded harbor area, but it feels like a world apart from the craziness of Newport's tourist hordes that invade by the score during the summer.
No visit to Newport in the summer is complete with a peaceful and restorative visit to Queen Anne's Square! read more
