I purchased a 250amp PX-4V alternator from Quality Power Auto for a customer of mines Chevy 4500 conversion bus, and my experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. After installing the alternator along with a new regulator, I immediately noticed it was louder than expected. Despite it passing a load test, the unit failed just three weeks later while my customer was transporting her clients. This failure not only killed both batteries but also left her stranded, forcing her to scramble for alternative transportation. I ended up driving 150 miles to have the alternator removed, taken to a repair shop, and then reinstalled along with the purchase of two new batteries. The technician later revealed that a critical component inside the alternator had been installed upside down--clearly a defect that was never addressed by Quality Power Auto. When I sent the invoice for $590, which covered the repair, fuel, time, and labor, the owner deflected responsibility, blamed me for the installation, and even told me to "fuck off" before hanging up. First, they claimed their alternators are triple bench tested and couldn't possibly be defective. Then they suggested it might have been dropped, and finally, they blamed me for not calling to confirm the issue when I first noticed a bearing-like noise. In total, I spent $974 dealing with this mess not including the $590 he now owes me. Quality Power Auto shows zero accountability and demonstrates a level of unprofessionalism that is unacceptable. Save your money and support your local alternator/starter repair shop instead. I wouldn't recommend doing business with them if you value your time, money, and reputation. *UPDATE* For the record, I never informed you about the noise until after the alternator had already failed. Please try to be honest, especially since you're already under fire for telling me to "f* off."** Your lack of professionalism speaks for itself. Now you're claiming the noise was caused by the batteries--yet the previous alternator never made that noise. Instead of taking accountability, you keep deflecting and making excuses. It's clear you don't care about your reputation, and it shows. No wonder your business doesn't even have a Facebook page with all the bad reviews. At the end of the day, you're a joke, a disgrace to the automotive community, and you won't stay in business long taking advantage of people like this. read more

I feel compelled to help balance against the negative reviews, as I just had great experiences with Quality Power. I ordered my alternator 2 afternoons ago and the order was processed immediately and sent one its way. When the unit arrived this morning, it was in great shape. My application was a little of as far as mounting brackets go, so I called in to make sure I wasn't going to void or damage anything. I'm bad recalling names or I'd thank him personally on here, but the man on the phone was super helpful. Not only did I get the okay to make the adjustments, but very detailed instructions on what to do to get everything perfect. Just look at the other (negative) reviews and you'll see they trust their customers to do the work. I got a stock bodied alternator, so comparing it to the stock unit was easy. It looks at least OE quality. I have a fairly low engine idle speed in gear and an under drive crank pulley. With a 2in alternator pulley, my ratio is at 3.5:1 and I do dance around the 2,400 alternator RPM floor, but I can have a lot more running at 600 engine RPM before getting voltage drop than I could stock. Raising up to 700, and I'm back to 14.6 volts. read more

My sister in law was having car issues. Long story short autozone told her the alternator was bad. I took it off for her and called these guys to see if they could rebuild it. They said yes and she took it to them. Before anything they bench tested it and it came back in perfect working condition. It ended up being a bad battery not the alternator. At the suggestion of QP to convert my 90 E-350 to the 3G one wire output was the best choice. The 1G with external regulator was not sufficient enough for a HQ audio system. This unit puts out great current @ 14.6 VDC I couldn't be happier. Woke up all the lighting as well. Had to turn down the dash lights to see the road. read more

I ordered an alternator and upon it arriving it had a broken connector immediately upon opening the box. It was NOT a shipping problem as the outer box was (and is) pristine. Only the inner box had a dent where the plastic connector is. Within 20 minutes I contacted Quality Power via email. Showing a picture of the damage and asking what could be done. Within an hour I received a reply to call them to discuss it over the phone. I called and was told they could either send me the connector so I could tear down the unit I had and re-solder it myself or send it back for a replacement. I asked if they'd send a shipping label for the return shipping and I was outright laughed at as I was told "No, that's on you." I contacted my credit card about this to issue a chargeback since I shouldn't be responsible since the product was improperly packaged. Quality Power outright *LIED* to my credit card saying I had said it was installed and ran for a few days then died. To be clear, if you buy from here *YOU* are responsible for return shipping even if Quality Power decides to be cheap and lazy to not pack a box to properly protect it from shipping issues. The person answering the phone when I did call also stated at the end after I mentioned a chargeback "hahaha, whatever I have this call recorded." So you may call them and have you call illegally recorded in the state of CA since it was not made clear up front that it was recorded. As CA's two-party consent law requires. This company does not care for customers or operating by the law. Do not support them, just go buy equipment elsewhere. read more

I've looked at a number of reviews and some are quite negative. I've had a couple of dealings with Quality Power and my experiences and the people I have dealt with are not like those described in those reviews. Let me tell you about it. To begin with, let me say that I have never been to Quality Power and never met any of them personally. My dealings with them have been over the phone, primarily with Kevin. The story below is intended to be about Quality Power, but I've included some specific information about my situation as background. I use an old ('73) 911 for regular transportation. I love driving it but I still want to feel comfortable, and I'm no longer willing to put up with the discomfort I tolerated 50 years ago when I bought my first Porsche. Several years ago I rebuilt the air conditioner so that it would work well. I anticipated a possible problem with the electrical system because the new system drew much more power than the old one (as much as 33 A current). However, an aftermarket high output alternator did not solve the problem. A local (north Hollywood) alternator shop told me that the new alternator put out no more current than the original one (50 A). Quality Power advertises a rebuild process to take an original 911 alternator and make it provide much more current, so, after talking to them on the phone, I sent them the high output alternator (which was basically a Bosch unit) to have that done. They tested the alternator that I sent them and told me that it put out currents as high as 160 A, and that it was fine. I asked them to make several specific measurements, which they did. They returned the unit to me along with the data I had asked them to collect, at no charge (except for shipping). The information they provided me was very helpful, allowing me to find and fix the problem, which was elsewhere. More recently, this alternator began behaving abnormally and I concluded that the voltage regulator had failed. I sent it back to Quality Power, telling them that I thought the regulator had failed but asking them to do whatever they thought might be necessary to maximize the chance that this alternator would continue to work without further problems (changing the alternator in an air-cooled 911 is a tedious process). They replaced the regulator, determined that the alternator was otherwise fine, and again returned it, for a very reasonable charge. I installed it today and it is again working well. One might object that perhaps it will fail again in the future, and that is true. However, as an electrical engineer (although not one with any particular expertise with alternators) I feel comfortable in saying that there is no way for anyone to know that. In both instances, they could have charged me for a rebuild and I would not have had any way to dispute that decision. Instead they did what they thought was right. So I would rate them highly in terms of customer service, expertise and integrity. In my mind, that's an unbeatable combination. read more

Poor quality products, After having their "high amp" alternator built for my car my car did not charge any better than the factory 80 amp alternator, At night with the lights on it actually killed the battery on my car, Sent it back to them ($30 each way postage), They tell me its good, send it back, Put it back on my car, same thing, Took my car to a shop, they test the alterantor, my high amp alternator is only putting out 60 amps, Quality power says send it back, I wind up driving to them to figure it out in person, couple hour drive, Get told its fine, My car is old and must have a short, Very rude about blaming my car, I told them why does my stock alternator work better than theirs, Why is a 5 start rated auto electrical shop tell me it has a bad alternator, After arguing with me about my car must have problems, I told them I dont care if I have to pay again, take the damn thing apart and look at it, Few days later they charge my card for shipping and mail it back, Upon inspecting it there was clearly parts inside changed, ALso they changed my stock pulled for a smaller one, Had to go out and buy a different belt, The new pulley is a different size V groove than the orignal and now it throws belts, Called them back, Asked them to find my original pulley so I dont have to run their special made for them pulleys that dont fit all application, So now for the 4th week my car has been down thanks to Quality Power. I have taken the car back to the shop and verified they installed the wrong pulley and that is the reason for throwing the belt, Have to now order a factory pulley at $45 since they can not seem to locate my factory pulley. BTW currently have my stock alternator on the car, No belt or charging problems, Only have issues with Quality Power alternator installed. read more

It's in a 36 year old car that went less than 3000 miles. 2) The owner dreams up "harsh winters". The car is garaged, in the very southern part of NYS, and even so last year we had 2" of now,,, which didn't get into the garage. 3) I think potential customers should be keenly aware that they only expect their work to last 12 months. 4) The last think I would do is let them build me another 12 month unit, for ANY price. read more

I bought an alternator for an 05 Toyota Camry. The lights would dim and the car would stutter if the rpm wasn't more than 2500. I installed a stock alternator and the car ran like nothing ever happened. I'm trying to get a refund, and this is what they told me. " it sounds like faulty wiring which would not be our fault." First of all if it's faulty wiring, then why is a stock alternator working just fine? Second of all, what kind of customer service straight up says that it's not there fault. I would recommended taking your high amp alternator needs elsewhere. This place doesn't earn money by selling items, they earn money with there 20% restocking fees. read more

I bought an alternator that was supposed to fit. I took it to local car shop and he was almost angry as he wasted his time to make it fit and told me that the alternator was not fitting at all. I contacted quality power. They were slow and not responsive. I asked them to fix the problem for me(getting it back and return it with the right fit). They did not do it. In the end I gave up. This place is great. I've been dealing with Ron for about 4-5 years now. I buy strictly rebuilt Penntex Ford alternators from him for a fleet of airport shuttles we service. Quality Power is a little far from my shop but well worth the long drive or shipping charges. I tried Ron out because I was tired of local rebuilders not getting it right. Worst place to go for repairs. I sent in a alternator to get rebuilt because it went bad. Took it to Autozone and failed on the tester so I decided to get it rebuilt than buy a new one " worst decision". Got it rebuilt and and got back in the truck not even a day later and the battery dies again " brand new battery" take it back to them and all they gotta say is that I plugged it wrong. Makes no sense to me since I've been working on cars for years, and that alternator only has one connection. Refuses to give me my money back because he claims the alternator is good, but the parts store tester brings it up as bad. Long story short ended up buying a new one and lost out on 80 dollars for a piece of shit rebuild. Seriously recommend buying new or a different shop than going to this dump read more

Shipped all the way out to Australia for me, multiple times, until we got the correct alternator for my car. (It was extremely hard to find a high output alt for a Proton) Always responded to my emails, helpful with everything and so much more. Provided full instructions on installing a new regulator.
